(and that also means refraining from dubbing utter dreck that is clearly hated here like Diabolik Lovers
[/quote]Hah…speak for yourself. I DL, snatched the BD. A vampire show were the vampires are mean, jerk s.o.b.'s…awesome.
Mayo Chiki’s only 13 eps. Hayate is 101 eps. thru all 4 season, assuming they grab not only ‘season 4’ Cuties (12 ep.) but they go back and grab season 1 (52 eps.) and season 2 (25 eps.)
I’d rather they use that money and grab the spiritual successor to Highschool of the Dead - Triage X and/or Blood Blockade Battlefront and/or go back and dub something like Maoyu and Humanity Has Declined.
Well, S1’s not available for licensing ATM since Bandai’s license didn’t expire yet (they licensed it in 2008 and a license usually lasts for 7 years, so it’ll probably be available by 2015). It’s a better decision if they get S4 and especially S2 plus its OVA (since many consider that season to be the best of the series) before settling with S1 and possibly the movie. How interesting, they’re releasing the series’ seasons in reverse just like The Familiar of Zero.
If that were to be the case, then we would see them dubbed (assuming Sentai decides to dub them if their sub-only sales were good enough) between 2016-2017 (a decade for season 1 since its premiere)
Blood Blockade Battlefront seems like a Funimation pick-up since it’s a Yasuhiro Nightow (of Trigun fame) manga, though Sentai could get it if they want to be more competitive towards Funimation in terms of getting the “big” anime titles.
If it is by the Trigun guy then I’m content to let Funi make the gamble on it. I’m content to see Sentai snipe a few big titles but spend most of its time surreptitiously sweeping up the sleeper shows. Funi can salvage a bad title through their hype machine, which is far greater than Sentai’s. IMO.
If Sentai dubs were on a level of ADV dubs then it wouldn’t much matter what the license as they could take even mediocre shows and make them better than they have any right to be. In a sense, that was how ADV survived. That, and Eva lol.
I’m partial to the Chunibyo release model over that model. Of course, I’d prefer a solidly-dubbed bilingual blu-ray/dvd combo pak to be the initial release without the knickknacks, limited production run, larger box and higher price but I’ll take the latter to get the former.
The longstanding practice, so I’ve heard, is that the dubs become property of the party issuing the license. If that’s the case then shouldn’t it be as easy for Sentai to grab any preexisting dub as it has been for them to salvage the old Bang/Zoom dubs for their rescues? Some of these old Bang/Zoom dubs are nothing to write home about too, if you know what I mean.
I wasn’t going to participate in this since it is a title solicitation thread and most this doesn’t really belong in here.
However, I wanted to point something out.
TOHO is streaming the Blood Blockade Battlefront PVs on their YT, so it’s very likely going to be a TOHO series.
Which means, unless FUNi wants to make “nice-nice” to TOHO, it’s very likely to wind up in Sentai’s lap.
Looking at that Crunchy page, I see only one Toho title that stood out to me. That reinforces my initial impression upon reading that B^3 is done by the progenitor of Trigun. Though I wouldn’t mind if it turned out that the Trigun guy (or the anime adapters) took it in a more preferable direction, especially if it should end up in Sentai’s hands.
Now we just need the cast list for Nobunaga the Fool.
I’m not taling about pre-existing dubs since Hayate doesn’t even have a legitimate dub. What I was talking about is that Sentai might dub the series if the initial sub releases (starting with S3) sells well enough for them.
It compares favorably. Chunibyo gets the dub out faster, and allows the demand from many sub fans and all dub fans to converge on one product. IMO releasing a dub based upon sub-only sales is something to be avoided (the turnaround can also be painfully slow, eg: Maria Holic).
As it stands, Hayate is in a similar situation to Space Brothers and Zero no Tsukaima
There’s an existing dub for it that isn’t all that far removed from what it is likely to get if it is dubbed by/at the behest of Sentai. Sure, Sentai could do/have it done better but…
With Hayate being a long running show that is released out of order and with the fan-derided season first, the odds seem stacked against it
What’s Space Brothers’s and Familiar of Zero’s situations like?
Though we had to wait more than 2 years, which is an abnormally long wait for a single-cour show unless Sentai wants to make this their biggest release to date and therefore put everything they got at it.
You mean the Animax dub, but I wouldn’t consider it as legitimate.
Long-running shows released undubbed by Sentai. Space Bros is newer and released in-order and ZnT is released in order and has a Season 1 dub. I think their odds are better.
Aren’t we only waiting ~1 year for Chunibyo past its originally-scheduled release date? The sub-only DVD has been out for 7 months. Also, Chunibyo is said to have been stopped at the last minute from being a 100% sub-only release because of fan demand. I’d rather see the fan demand get the dub made up front rather than get a sub-only release and have to wait months-to-years to be surprised by a sudden dub announcement from Sentai.
