Super GALS / Super GALS! Kotobuki Ran
Who are the VAs in the pilot episode? Can you post a list of the credits (assuming there’s a credit roll?). I’m curious about this. Thanks.
Other than the one I mentioned, I wasn’t sure or didn’t recognize the others and there wasn’t a credit roll at the end so it made me curious if any of you had seen it since it might have been included in the singles as an extra.

It seems though, it’s purely an Enoki thing and no one has seen it before.

Quick question to those that are getting this on VOD is both the Pilot episode and first episode up or only just the Pilot episode?

FVOD or SVOD?
As far as SVOD is concerned, we got ep. 1 & 2 + the pilot in the first update.
We’re up to ep. 6 currently as of this week.

I misread a post in the VOD section they were talking about Alice Academy and Soul Hunters not SuperGals.
Probably should not read stuff when I first get up.

So why I am here did those two only get the Pilot episodes?

I know that feeling well.

Yeah, both of those series came as pilot only episodes this week.
The series themselves are not actually scheduled to air until July 2 though.

So, we’re up to ep. 17 currently on SVOD.

This is a odd series so far.
It’s not like WTF! kind of odd, where you just sit there stunned from confusion. It’s odd, because with all its fluffy, slang-fill, bouncey moments and attitudes, it has really deep meaning moments that kind of make you think, with an intrinsic addictive quality that for some reason, makes you really want to see more to find out what happens.

I’m actually rather enjoying this one because of that.

It’s been a while since I saw it… I’m curious if you have an example/s of those deep moments that make you think?

spoiler

Meaningful moments, like when they get all serious about their friendships or like when they go into backstory on the characters, like Miyu’s past. It just kinda makes me think about general sociology and how people interact with each other and the bonds of friendship.

Just noticed you guys and gals have started on Season 2. This is where you are going to have to adapt to the subs and understanding Japanese vocal tone emotions. It’s a great series and while its a shame no dub for the second season don’t let it effect your viewing.

Well I have TWC and has not seen Super Gals on VOD. Had to watch it on the online player. I’m wondering why they never dubbed the 2nd season.

First season seems to have done bad enough ADV did not even want to attempt to dub it so they let it go. They probably had planned on it since the preview for episode 27 was dubbed ,but in the end decided it was not worth it. I honestly think a lot of the problems the series had selling were related to the image the show put out to those that had not seen it. Until I saw it on the CAS VOD a few years ago I honestly wanted nothing to do with it. Afterward I bought the first set and when the second season came up for pre-order I got it the day it went up. Even eventually double dipped on the first season singles when Rightstuf got a small re-stock in the bargain bin.

Interesting note is the Japanese don’t even have DVDs for the second season. Don’t know why though.

Looks like Season 1 has quietly gone out of print. Rightstuf removed the listing on the 18th and there was never another set release after the first one in 2005 I am not seeing to much of a chance of a re-release unless Nozomi picks it up to go with their second season set.

I have a set of the first season singles and the thinpak so I’m good ,but man what a shame its no longer on a current DVD release. Only way to catch it now is on the OP or VOD.

End of an era. :frowning:

Probably for the same reason why they (the japanese) cancelled releasing Shangri-La on DVD after v.7 and why ADV never released the 2nd season - poor sales - period.

If this aired on TAN VOD it was before my time as well (reading your first post from long ago lol ;)) . Or I missed it, I seem to have missed 009-1 lol. I always wondered why this was never up on their VOD channel when I had it? Hmmm.

Hmmm… This does seem to be on the online player. Something I should check out Dragoon? Looks interesting to say the least. And I’ve heard so much about it over the years…

Because Enoki has/had the home broadcast rights for it and they were selling it and managing it with their own interests in mind at the time. The situation was complicated before - digital and broadcast licenses only really got straightened out around 2007ish, slowly.

As for this show it’s always been in my top of the top ADV releases with Season1, A level material. The hype this got during AOD’s golden years when people had better taste  was warranted. Season 2 even though sub-only was also superb.

But I should warn you, in some ways it’s an acquired taste and won’t be for everyone. PP and I watched this at the same time back in the day, and even with us it took a few episodes to warm up to it. You have to really appreciate the whole Japanese teen girl set-up and teen culture to get it and appreciate it. But for those who do (PP, I, many people with taste in the highest levels of the industry ;)) … it’s a real unique show.

The ADV dub is a highlight of what they did very well with comedy, drama and romance - one of my top favorites. I think it’s shows like this where ADV showed they were a powerhouse in dubbing. I mean who else could cast Jason Douglas in this kind of a comedic role and make it fly. It’s an all star cast of ADV fan-favorites.

Just a really special show, and a really special dub. If I had to take 5 ADV titles with me to a desert island, this has to be one of them.

If I ever have some free time I’ll have to give this a watch on the online player then. Shame to see it go OOP, even if it was really niche.

Oh I did not notice this. It’s up only for subscribers. Well Guess I’ll have to check it out next time they do that free thing.

Yeah the new acquisitions (SG is a new partnership with Enoki in terms of digital and broadcast) are for subscribers… gotta fund the cycle and pay the bills… especially since buying stuff on Amazon marketplace or Ebay is almost worthless (in terms of helping the companies). So from Enoki/Anime Network’s perspective - this is how they can make money from it.

Yeah I understand the reasoning behind it. And I sure hope they are making money that way. But I still can’t watch it lol. Oh well, I’ll just check it out when they have the next free thing then, no biggie :stuck_out_tongue: .
