Large Truck in front of VW Van. Man Hole Cover is loose, possible not even entirely in the Man Hole. Truck hits cover at speed, cover comes completely out of hole and is run over by rear tire(s) where it is sent airborne and into the VW Vans front end.
I’ve seen this happen a number of times with various covers, sheets of plywood or unknown objects in the street. Always unnerving, that is one of the more spectacular ones.
Then there was the time I was passed by the Tread off of a Semi’s Tire, while going over a bridge. The Tread continued on merrily into the downtown of Fort Smith, Arkansas. All the cars just stopped…

I had a piece of tire smack into my windshield while driving on the freeway before. Not fun.
It may have also been an explosion. One happened near my house when I was a child. The cover ended up on the roof across the street.
There was also a series of cover explosions over a few days this past Summer in the city. There was vehicle damage, but no one was hurt, thank goodness! Con Edison still isn’t sure what caused it.
