The World God Only Knows

Finished up the OVAs this morning.
Man am I ever happy Sentai managed to pick them up, especially the Tenri Arc.
It would have been kind of annoying going into the Goddess Arc without that prior knowledge.

I haven’t seen that Sentai has this yet anywhere, but I think I’ll start watching it.

Episode 1 –

spoiler

What’s a God of Conquest without a few goddesses? This is going to be good! Diana wants him to marry her host, because she thrives on the power of love. I think she has the wrong Keima for that! LOL And thanks to Apollo, Kanon is remembering her time with Keima. I guess her memory wasn’t totally wiped when the loose soul left her.

Diana tells an interesting story and asks Keima to help her find her sisters. She thinks that they may be in the bodies of the girls that were already freed of loose souls. Of course Keima wants nothing to do with this, until Diana tells him that those girls will remember their time with him. Keima seems terrified by that! LOL

Apollo also warns Kanon that she’s being watched and someone later tries to hurt her. However, she thinks she’s just going crazy from fatigue and puts everything down to her imagination. But when she sees the same stranger at school, she runs to Keima and tells him that she remembers him. Keima asks if she also remembers the kiss and with tears in her eyes, she says that she does, and then declares that she loves him! In front of the entire class! And during a test! But as they talk, Apollo comes out and says she doesn’t want to involve him and she runs away. So, I guess whether he wants to or not, Keima is going to end up helping Diana.

As Apollo runs away, the stranger is suddenly there and tries to strangle her. She says that as long as the goddesses are around, Hell cannot be revived. Producing a sword, she stabs Apollo and tells her that her name is Lune, of Vintage. Now, did Lune just kill Kanon? This series seems like it’s going to be a bit on the darker side.

Episode 2 –

spoiler

Keima and Elsie find the stabbed Kanon and rush to her aid. They take her back to Keima’s house where Haqua tries to treat her. Diana is there too and realizes that Apollo was once inside Kanon. But when they try to remove the dagger, it repels them and Diana tells them that it’s Weiss assassination magic. Haqua recognizes the mark on the dagger as belonging to Vintage. Right now, the power of the goddess is protecting Kanon, but it will wear off soon and that means that Kanon will die.

Keima is determined to save Kanon and needs information. Haqua gives Kanon a week to live. Getting the other goddesses together may be the key to saving Kanon, but can Keima do it all in a week? Apollo sent out a warning to her sisters, so it will be even harder to find them now. Diana goes into hiding as well.

Elsie takes Kanon’s place in the real world and that may prove to be a disaster. A fake phone call sends Keima’s mother to South America. And Haqua gets to team up with Keima. I’m sure she’ll enjoy that. Keima has a good plan for finding the other goddesses. The first one to approach him is Chihiro, so his assumption worked. Haqua gets to be Elsie at school and that should be funny. Ayumi probably hides a goddess as well, from the way she treats Keima. Two more to go!

Keima goes over his list of conquests and quickly narrows it down. Haqua can hardly keep up with him and then she freaks out when he tells her that she should stay at his house, but she goes along with him. Keima still needs to figure some things out and Haqua promises to be there for him. Coming upon her in the bath, Keima’s mind is certainly elsewhere as he tells her that he will cease to be a god and become a devil instead. Haqua’s reaction was the best and it wasn’t because of what he said. LOL

Trying to feed these goddesses love by way of seducing the girls doesn’t seem to be working all that well and Keima may end up getting some serious injuries in the process. I think this is going to get very complicated. Keima ends up with five potential hosts for four goddesses, and is ready to move on to the next stage. Good luck!

Episode 3 –

spoiler

Walking multiple girls home from school on the same can be very difficult. And it really doesn’t work out. It’s a shame Keima doesn’t have more time to raise their affection levels. But it is amusing!

Shiori’s story was cute, and Keima was a character in it. But it’s also the story of how they met, although the roles are reversed. And she kills him off in the end! LOL

Shiori catches Keima reading her story and they start to communicate through it. Every time she kills Keima off, he comes back to life. It was funny to finally see Keima and Shiori as the actual characters in the story – Keima with blonde hair and blue eyes! LOL But he still looks cute.

The scene with Yui was funny when Keima accuses her of triggering events. But she’s been watching him with the others and now accuses him of being a playboy! That must really hurt a guy that doesn’t like 3D girls, although it’s true if you count 2D girls. Then she gives him a girl’s uniform to wear. LOL Haqua thinks she’s watching a comedy act and she isn’t too far off. Haqua ends up saving him. Now Keima has more problems. Nora arrives to tell them that they are looking for the goddesses too! Keima needs to get moving!

Episode 4 –

spoiler

Shiori wrote another story and it isn’t as good as the first one. But she still only speaks to Keima through writing. Afterwards, Keima gets locked and then cornered in the library. Kanon is getting worse and Nora, noticing the miasma, demands an explanation from Haqua. Haqua tells Nora that Vintage put a curse on Kanon.

Keima continues to be attacked at the library, but can’t figure out by whom, since they don’t seem to want to kill him. He makes a run for it and finds Tsukiyo’s doll, Luna. She tells him to leave Tsukiyo alone. Keima figures the doll is possessed by a goddess, but there may be enemies around, so he plays dumb. The doll tells Keima that she is “Vulcanus”, and Keima knows her to be one of Diana’s sisters.

Keima gets away from the doll, but to protect her, he has to find Tsukiyo. He finds her on the roof, with a halo over her head and the goddess explains that although she cannot see well, hear well, or even walk, she can manipulate objects, and that is how she will protect Tsukiyo from him. Finally getting to speak with Tsukiyo, he does no better. Tsukiyo hates him and directs Luna to get rid of him, but Keima won’t give up till he talks to Tsukiyo again.

Keima gets another chance and grabs Tsukiyo in a hug, telling her that they were brought together by fate. He gets punched in the face for his efforts! Keima asks for a kiss, saying that it will solve all of their problems. His following attempts are pretty comical, and he may have convinced Tsukiyo, but not Luna. As Keima lies unconscious, Tsukiyo tells Luna that she wants to tell Keima about her sisters, but Luna advises her to keep it a secret. Thinking of what Keima had said to her, she kisses him on the cheek. Keima awakens to find that Tsukiyo has wings, but she seems to be in pain as well, screaming as she clings to him.

Nora tells Haqua that Vintage has infiltrated the Loose Souls team in order to find the goddesses and capture them. Luna arrives, surprising them, and examines Kanon, discovering that Apollo is within her. Keima returns and Vulcanus is reunited with Diana. There is some jealousy among the girls, but saving Kanon is more important right now. Diana and Vulcanus join together and manage to remove both the dagger and the curse, but Kanon doesn’t wake up. Apollo has cast a spell upon herself and only she can remove it, although Diana thinks that Mercurius might be able to help. But Keima would have to find her first.

Nora is happy to have found some goddesses and Keima makes a deal with her. If she can keep the secret for one week, she gets all the credit of finding them. Haqua doesn’t look too happy about that. Nora accepts the deal and leaves. As Haqua later asks Keima for some reassurance, Diana asks Keima for a kiss. The hidden Haqua must have gotten a good laugh as Diana gets a little aggressive with Keima and then rejects him, calling him an “animal”. I guess she really doesn’t want her wings back as she hits Keima over the head with a stepladder. But she tries to like Keima as she tells him that he “must engage in the ritual of love” with Tenri. Haqua interrupts them by stepping on Keima’s face! LOL Soon, the two girls are arguing, but they are both standing on top of Keima!

As Diana leaves, Keima apologizes to her. Her opinion of him has changed slightly for the better with all that has happened. As Tenri walks home, Diana’s wings appear. Things finally seem to be working out for Keima, but he still may end up in a hospital, if he keeps getting hit on the head like that!

Episode 5 –

spoiler

Yui just doesn’t conform to the dating sims! So, Keima must create a “major event”. He dresses up as a girl for Yui! LOL Keima will win this time by allowing Yui to conquer him! Mars awakens within Yui when she starts to remember her past with Keima.

The big date was funny. Keima isn’t used to being conquered, so it’s a bit awkward for him. But he did get to wear a nice dress! LOL And I think Keima was beginning to enjoy himself too, playing the lady to Yui’s gentleman. The role reversal was funny and weird, but in the end Keima did get Mars her wings.

Episode 6 –

spoiler

Poor Shiori saw Keima with Yui, and is having problems dealing with Keima being with a guy and cross-dressing as a girl. She loves him, yet she is confused and can’t even write her story. Worse still, he hasn’t kept his promise to visit her and finish reading her novel.

After chasing a little girl through the library, Shiori comes upon Keima. He’s without the wig, but still dressed as a girl. She’s about to turn away from him, but decides to give him a chance to explain. Keima actually tells Shiori the truth of his situation, even telling her that he can’t stop dressing as a girl, but Shiori doesn’t understand. The little girl – obviously a goddess – is sitting on top of a bookshelf, listening as well.

Keima tries to leave, but Shiori stops him. The bell rings and Keima says that they can talk as they walk home together. But he’s still dressed as a girl and even the wig is back in place! At least Shiori thinks he makes a cute girl. Perhaps he stayed dressed that way to make Shiori more at ease. Maybe taking to a girl is easier than talking to a boy, but Shiori still looks uncomfortable seeing the guy she likes as a girl.

They end up at a ramen shop and Shiori decides to write a story about Keima. He gives her permission and they plan to meet the following day. Keima tells Haqua that he feels Shiori will be able to write now, because she’s met such a “unique” person. LOL Still, I like how people on the street stare at him!

However, the next day, Shiori hasn’t written one word; she has writer’s block. Keima will stay with her all day and will not let her leave the library until she finishes her story. She makes a sound like a boiling teakettle which was pretty funny. Since Keima is dressed like a guy again, it must disturb her to be locked up all day with a boy she likes.

Shiori has several false starts before realizing that she really knows nothing about Keima. And with the things that she does know, she begins to think that her imagination was working overtime. In trying to reference other books, Shiori gets distracted and ends up reading them. Time is passing and Shiori still can’t think of what to write about Keima.

Keima finally tries to convince Shiori to write about herself instead, but saying that it wouldn’t be interesting, she runs off. She finally remembers the kiss as being true and not her imagination. And she sees the little girl again, but has not time chase her. Shiori returns to the table where she was working, but Keima is gone. But she has no time to look for him either, because she’s finally ready to write!

The next morning, Keima finds Shiori asleep and reads her story. When he’s done, Shiori wakes up, but she’s the goddess. She’s frightened and immediately goes back to being Shiori. She’s surprised to see Keima, but he compliments her story. Shocked that he’s read it to the end, where she says she loves him, Shiori gets up, but trips and Keima catches her. He kisses her on the cheek and tells her that their story isn’t over yet.

With a promise to see her every day, Keima leaves and Shiori gets to meet Minerva. But I wonder how Minerva can appear outside of Shiori’s body. Shiori must think her imagination is at work again, but she does get her wings. She decides that she’ll have to write the rest of her story. Once again, Keima’s plan worked and another goddess has been found. Yay!

Episode 7 –

Everything has caught up to Keima and he falls ill. But it may not be a completely bad thing. Girls just love to take care of a sick guy! And Ayumi and Chihiro are the last remaining candidates. But he can’t have both of them visit him – or can he?

Ayumi does pay a visit, but almost changes her mind. However, Keima, sick as he is, manages to get her inside the house to help him. He plays it to the hilt and gets Ayumi to take care of him. But it was funny that he used Elsie’s room. I guess he doesn’t want anyone to see his obsession! LOL But as he asks Ayumi to stay with him a while, Chihiro shows up. What to do? He’s caught now!

But Keima is a quick thinker and hides Ayumi in his bed. She must have thought terrible things with Keima hovering over her like that! And now he has Chihiro taking care of him as well. Keima is positive that he can handle this “double sick visit event”. But I’m not so sure.

Still hiding in Keima’s bed, Ayumi hears Chihiro’s song and Keima has to convince her that there is nothing between them after Chihiro leaves. But when Chihiro returns with a confession of love, Keima is startled, and pretends he didn’t hear her. He then pretends ignorance with Ayumi as well and asks her if she heard what Chihiro might have said.

He can’t let Ayumi leave either. Everything will be ruined. But being that Ayumi and Chihiro are friends, he decides that he has to pick one of them and he goes with Chihiro. However, before he can talk to her, Ayumi is already chatting with her and confirms that Chihiro is in love with Keima. Ayumi cheers her on and gracefully steps aside. Well, I guess it can’t be helped.

Episode 8 –

spoiler

Haqua is in Hell, attending a meeting of Section Chiefs. Haqua asks if the rumors are true that Vintage has infiltrated the Loose Souls Teams to search for the goddesses. Dokuro Skull assures her and everyone else present that the rumors are unfounded. But as Haqua tries to leave Hell, she is arrested.

Keima still has his cold, but Diana requests that the goddesses gather at his house. But then they begin to argue over which host Keima belongs to! LOL Once everyone gets upstairs, the goddesses try to contact Apollo. Instead, Keima is drawn into her world. Apollo warns Keima that the Weiss are gaining strength, and that her own power will be depleted within three days. When Keima returns, his cold is gone. He warns the goddesses to keep themselves hidden.

In Hell, Haqua can’t figure out why she’s been locked up. Nora pays her a visit and scolds her for saying what she did in public. Nora implies that Dokuro Skull is a member of Vintage. She also hints that Dokuro Skull was the one that ordered Haqua’s arrest. As Nora leaves, Haqua also wonders if she belongs to Vintage as well.

Meanwhile, Keima is still trying to figure out things with Ayumi and Chihiro. Which girl is hosting the last goddess? He needs to move on this with only three days left. Again, he chooses Chihiro as the most likely candidate. And she again surprises him by asking him out, before he can ask her. Things are proceeding nicely with Chihiro, but Keima is still unsure about Ayumi.

At the Festival Eve party, Keima plans on kissing Chihiro to give the goddess her wings, but he needs to find a private spot so Vintage won’t notice. However, Chihiro doesn’t want Keima pawing at her. He decides he has to force her, but Keima still can’t find a secluded spot. He decides to forget it for now, but Chihiro shyly asks that they look for a place without anyone else around. Looks like Keima has won again.

Episode 9 –

spoiler

Keima and Chihiro end up on the school’s roof. But as Keima is about to kiss her, Chihiro tells him it’s her first time. Oh no! Wrong girl! LOL Keima tries to think of a way to get out of this situation, and get back to Ayumi, but Chihiro gives him a big surprise. She tells him that she’s been in love with him for a long time – far longer than his original conquest! But can he really believe the boy-chasing Chihiro? Chihiro takes the initiative and kisses him. It’s all very romantic under the fireworks, but Keima cruelly and coldly rejects her.

Unfortunately, Ayumi is watching them. Chihiro runs away in tears and Keima almost goes after her. Ayumi confronts Keima and lets him have it. But Keima turns the situation around and tells Ayumi that it was because he has feelings for her. However, before he can get all the words out, Ayumi kicks him! LOL I think I would have done the same thing. She calls him a jerk and runs away. Keima just lies there. I doubt he ever has a chance with Ayumi now.

Funny that while Keima is in the tub, Diana walks in and tells him that she’s in love with him too and wants him to give her her wings. But he belongs to Tenri, so Diana decides that he has to have Tenri. She undresses and gets in the tub with him and suddenly she’s Tenri and totally embarrassed. But she is wearing a swimsuit at least. I enjoyed the argument with Tenri and Diana in the mirror. All Keima could do was watch. It was even funnier when Keima gets up and uses the tub cover to cover himself. He’s really had enough with these goddesses and girls! Real girls are just too unpredictable for his taste, and he’s still feeling guilty over Chihiro. But he knows he has to keep going and finish this.

Keima discovers a big secret, but decides it has nothing to do with him or his conquest. His only concern right now is Ayumi. Can he win her over?

Episode 10 –

spoiler

Ayumi is going to be a problem, but Keima is determined to win her over. He can’t get to her at the café, and things get a little complicated when Chihiro takes over for Ayumi. He keeps running into Chihiro. How does he remove this obstacle? And more complications arise when Vintage arrives and also targets Ayumi.

Keima actually asks Chihiro to work with him in order to win Ayumi! The slap in the face was a good answer. LOL Keima also damaged Ayumi’s friendship with Chihiro. Ayumi feels that they can’t be friends anymore. And Keima is still thinking in terms of games. He really needs to get out into the real world!

Before Keima can get anywhere with either of the girls, Vintage strikes! They have captured all the hosts at once, under the direction of Lune. Keima is captured as well. The goddesses will be killed. And it’s Haqua to the rescue! About time she got back. She frees Keima, Ayumi, and Chihiro, and turns her attention to fighting Vintage as the others make a run for it. Go Haqua!

When everything is over, Keima convinces the girls that it was all an act, put on by the Film Society, and gets Haqua to play along. Haqua lets Keima know that all of the goddesses were attacked. But all of the girls that Keima conquered have been taken and Lune plans to just kill them all, rather than taking the trouble to find out which ones host the goddesses. At least Nora arrives to help, and will protect Ayumi.

Keima takes Chihiro back to his house, and that just confuses the poor girl. Once home, Keima sees that they’ve taken Kanon as well. However, Tenri and Diana are okay. Elsie is all right too. Haqua informs Keima that Vintage intends to revive Ancient Hell on Earth. And that secret that Keima had discovered is part of it. But he still wants to free the goddesses and will continue to pursue Ayumi. However, Chihiro overhears them talking and she questions what they are doing. Keima drags Chihiro along with him to Ayumi’s house - where he intends to confess his love!

Episode 11 –

spoiler

It was funny to see Keima trying to climb up to Ayumi’s room and not knowing which one it was. But the girl is in the bath, so it didn’t quite work out anyway. I think the doorbell would have worked just as well. LOL She splashes water on him from the window and calls him a “sick, peeping pervert”. It’s really going to be hard for Keima to win this battle! And things just keep getting worse!

Keima asks Ayumi to go meet him by the river – did he really have to bribe her with her own panties? LOL And Haqua finally explains the situation to the confused Chihiro. Ayumi does show up and Vintage is also on the way. Keima takes Ayumi to a playground and Vintage shows up there as well. They have to move again and this time they run right into Lune, but Nora confronts her, allowing Keima and Ayumi to get away.

Vintage is all over the place and Chihiro helps them to find shelter, but she still doesn’t like the way Keima operates. However, she apologizes for confessing to him at a bad time and will even help him. But her help will only complicate things and he doesn’t want it. Later, Chihiro has a heart to heart with Ayumi and plays a conversation, where Keima tells Chihiro about his game tactics. Chihiro tells Ayumi that Keima is playing a game to seduce her. Now everything is ruined!

Ayumi slaps Keima and runs from the house. Chihiro just wants Keima to stop lying to Ayumi. She tells him that he has to truly love her. She also told Ayumi the things that she did to remove herself as an obstacle. Chihiro knows that Ayumi will forgive Keima if he plays his cards right. But I really cracked up to see Keima arrive on a white horse and call Ayumi “princess”! I thought it was a bit over the top, but it must have worked because Ayumi tells Keima to marry her! LOL

In order to win her heart, Keima agrees! But there are conditions – ridiculous ones, which prove that Keima is more serious about marriage than Ayumi is. But she drags him off the horse and into her house where Ayumi introduces Keima to her parents as her future husband. Loved the look on dad’s face! LOL He looked like he wanted to kill Keima. But Keima presents Ayumi with a wedding dress and a formal proposal of marriage.

Not what Ayumi expected at all. Ayumi lists his points, both good, and bad and finally tells him that she will believe him if he tells her that he loves her. So, he does, but it wasn’t good enough for Ayumi and she felt he was faking it. He then tries to hug her and she kicks him. All Keima can do is keeping telling her that he loves her until Ayumi believes him. I don’t think dad has anything to worry about at this point – proven when Ayumi’s parents go off to bed.

In the end, Ayumi confesses to him and says that she’ll be waiting for him someplace romantic. She runs from the house with her wedding dress. This is just what Keima needs at this point! Nora is stopped from following Ayumi by Vintage. But it was only a decoy. Nora really is with Ayumi after all. But then Lune shows up. Haqua will deal with her while Keima and Chihiro go after Ayumi. She’s waiting for Keima by the ocean, but who will get to her first?

Episode 12 –

spoiler

Lune stabbed Haqua! She’s insane! Although she’s invisible, Vintage almost gets Chihiro. She still wants Keima to tell Ayumi the truth. She’s waiting for him on the ship – in the wedding dress. Keima and Chihiro arrive and it was hard for Chihiro when Keima let go of her hand. He does promise to tell Ayumi everything, but not just yet. She asks Keima if he really loves her and he honestly answers her that he does not. He just wants to reach the ending, but then he tells her that he loves her. Poor Ayumi must really be confused!

The invisible Chihiro pushes Ayumi into Keima, and Keima gets an ending he doesn’t want. The wedding ceremony was very funny and I laughed when Keima called Ayumi a “nasty bride”. They better hurry up – Vintage is on the way. Ayumi tells Keima that she won’t anyone manipulate her feelings – that she chose to fall in love with him. She now kisses Keima, and Mercurius comes out with her wings, just as Vintage finds them!

Diana swoops in and rescues the unconscious Mercurius. The Loose Souls Team arrives with Akari to take care of Vintage. Everyone heads over to Point Rock and Keima’s part in all of this is finished. Keima takes Chihiro home, so she can get ready for her concert. The team saves the girls and the goddesses are reunited. Kanon/Apollo is healed and awakens. Haqua is still fighting Lune, and she’s losing. However, Lune senses a change in the air and stops the fight, leaving Haqua as she is. Elsie is freed from impersonating Kanon and may now participate in her band’s concert.

Keima thanks Chihiro and she asks him about their date. He’s honest with her again and she plays it off. But you can see that both of them are hurting as Keima tells her that he will watch her concert. It was so sad! I think Keima finally fell for a real girl and never realized it till just now. And it’s just too late. The goddesses seal the Weiss and the plan to revive Hell is thwarted.

It’s time for the Battle of the Bands at the school festival, but the members of 2-B Pencils are all missing. Chihiro takes the stage alone and the rest of the band finally shows up. Keima arrives in the audience as well. Just before they start, Kanon appears on the stage, wanting to sing with them as well. It was funny when Chihiro began to sing a love song and the goddesses’ wings appear as it rains feathers! The song Chihiro sings is about fist love and it seems to be about Keima.

Keima is up on the roof, feeling awful about what he did to Chihiro. Worse yet, he begins to cry! On stage, Chihiro is crying as well as she finishes the song. I just want to hug these two and get them together!! Their story can’t just end like this. But I guess a God of Conquest must remain single. Besides, you can’t hurt he girls in games the way you can hurt a real girl. Anyway, the song is a hit and the audience cheers.

Elsie does the follow-up five days later. Vintage has been captured and their plans put to an end. Haqua has been reinstated to the Loose Souls Team, and Nora is promoted to Head Section Chief. Keima has returned to his games, but still seems out of sorts. This season was less lighthearted than the previous ones. There was a lot more to the story and was much deeper. It was excellent and I hope to see more of this series someday. I like how Keima is maturing and would enjoy seeing where he goes from here.

3rd The World God Only Knows streamed on Crunchyroll in 2013

This is super awesome news. It’s a relief for those of us who own the first two will get to complete the trilogy. I didn’t think it would happen at this point.

Thanks for the information!

I was wondering if Sentai was going to be able to license season 3 of Kaminomi. I just thought it was odd that it has been over a year since the season aired, and it has not found its way to TAN yet. I sure hope so. I want to complete my collection.
