not too sure about dirty shoe and feet clomping around over blankets and stuff, but a cobby in the stairs is a great idea. maybe a shoe rack under there so you grab your shoes and close it and sit down to put them on and they never are in the way to trip over, and not cluttering and stinking up the closet?
