I hope you’re hungry for more zombies.

Legendary Pictures is teaming up with Crackle to produce a feature-length film based on the Dead Rising games. The movie will debut first on Crackle, and then be chopped up into a web series for its release on SVOD, DVD, VOD, and TV. Like the games, the new Dead Rising adaptation will tell the story of a large-scale zombie outbreak, and focus on a group of four survivors. It’s unclear if the four lead characters will be based on any of the heroes from the games.

The new Dead Rising feature is being written by Tim Carter, who also worked on the Mortal Kombat: Legacy digital series and wrote the video game Sleeping Dogs. He actually announced the project on EP Live, and you can watch that entire interview by clicking here.

In related news, Capcom has announced that the PC version of the latest game, Dead Rising 3, will launch September 5. Don’t forget that the hilarious expansion Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha was released last week on the Xbox One.
It appears that Nintendo 64 games could be making their way onto the Wii U Virtual Console soon, according to an update to Nintendo’s official website.

A new message on the official Virtual Console website reads: “Check back regularly for the latest releases, including the future addition of titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 systems.”

The Virtual Console has previously only included NES and SNES titles, but back in April Nintendo made the first Game Boy Advance titles available, and recently released the first Nintendo DS title, Brain Age.

There’s currently no word on GameCube titles.

http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/dead-rising-3-coming-to-pc-in-september/Dead Rising 3 Coming to PC in Sept 5
The former Xbox One exclusive Dead Rising 3 is coming to PC on September 5 for $49.99, Capcom has announced.

The game will be available via Steam, and is currently available to pre-purchase for $37.49 for the next 30 hours as part of Steam’s Summer Sale, so be quick if you want to pick up a deal. It has been optimized for PC with improved textures, and includes Steam achievements and Trading Cards, and controller support.

News of a PC version first surfaced when an entry was discovered for the game in the Steam Database. This entry was quickly altered to show mention of the game, but later that same day Capcom officially announced that its zombie-killing simulator would be coming to PC.

http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/no-plans-to-bring-halo-the-master-chief-collection-to-xbox-360-or-pc/No Master Chief Collection for PC
343 Industries has confirmed that there are no plans to bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC or Xbox 360.

The collection was officially announced during Microsoft’s E3 press conference for Xbox One, and will contain enhanced versions of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 will be anniversary editions with completely revamped HD graphics.

“We do not have any plans to bring the game to Xbox 360 as the game size, enhanced features and technical specifications simply can’t support it,” the developer wrote on Halo Waypoint. “We are dedicated to bringing a full and fun experience to Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, providing you with dedicated servers, a unified interface, increased visual fidelity, and gameplay running at 60 fps.”

343 Industries Bonnie Ross also confirmed to Eurogamer that PC gamers will also be left out in the cold. “Right now we are focused on Xbox One,” she said. “We’ve been on PC before, and Dan [Ayoub, 343 executive producer] has had games like Halo: Spartan Assault on there.

“We’re listening to the PC fans, but right now this is all focused on Xbox One.”

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is set to launch exclusively for Xbox One on November 11.

http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/female-characters-in-sunset-overdrive/Sunset Overdrive Has Playable Females
Here’s something that should be commonplace but isn’t.

Insomniac Games has confirmed that Sunset Overdrive will include playable female characters. Go figure. They’re also giving you the ability to customize your skin colour and body type in the game, which means you can be whoever you want to be. All the clothing in the game will even work with both genders, so you can be a guy in a dress, if that’s what you want. Insomniac explains the features in the video above, along with the very cool traps that you’ll be able to use to your advantage in the game.

This comes just a few weeks after Ubisoft made some controversial statements about putting females into their future games, in particular, the Assassin’s Creed series. Insomniac seems to be calling them out directly with their female character’s choice of hoodie in the video.

We also feel compelled to point out that you can clearly see EPN’s own Best of E3 award at the start of the video, which we presented to Insomniac at E3 last week.

Sunset Overdrive will launch exclusively on the Xbox One on October 28.

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra writer and producer Tim Hendrick will pen the game’s story, which is set between the Nickelodeon series’ second and third seasons. Korra will be equipped with all four element-bending abilities, and will square off against series mainstays such as Mecha Tanks, Chi Blockers, and other Benders. http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/afro-samurai-sequel-in-development-for-pc-and-consoles/New Afro Samurai Game in Development
Versus Evil has announced that a sequel to 2009â€Čs Afro Samurai is in development over at Redacted Studios for PC and “next-gen consoles.”

Redacted founder David Robinson worked on the first game at Namco Bandai that released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (pictured above), and now heads a team of 17 who are working on the sequel.

“This upcoming third person action adventure includes an original storyline, new playable characters, and improved special moves and combos which firmly establishes the franchise as the undisputed leader in dynamic dismemberment,” the publisher said.

For those that are unaware, Afro Samurai started life as a manga back in 1999, before being made into an anime in 2007. Samuel L. Jackson voiced the lead character in the anime.
Get ready to light up the streets of Seattle this August.

Sucker Punch Productions has announced that Infamous First Light will be available to download starting August 26. It’s a standalone expansion to Infamous Second Son, and will explore the tragic backstory of the game’s supporting hero, or villain, Fetch Walker. Expect to be able to do new things with her deadly neon superpowers as she embarks on a quest for revenge.

Locked up in a prison for super powered humans, Fetch Walker is forced to relive tragedies from her past. Unravel her dark secret in Seattle while battling to escape snowy Curdon Cay and seek vengeance against those who wronged her.

Sony has also confirmed that First Light will be one of the first games that can be pre-downloaded and installed by anyone who buys it early. You won’t actually be able to play it until August 26, but this means you won’t have to waste valuable time staring at a download bar on launch day.

http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/dragon-quest-x-announced-for-3ds/Dragon Quest X Coming to 3DS
Square Enix has announced that its massively multiplayer online role-playing game Dragon Quest X will be making the jump to Nintendo 3DS this September in Japan.

The subscription-based MMO first launched for Wii and Wii U before moving to mobile devices and PC. From September 4 the game will be available on 3DS, and will make use of the same cloud streaming service that the mobile versions use. This means that the game will look better than most 3DS titles, but the handheld’s 3D capabilities will be disabled as a result.

The 3DS version will come with 60 days of game time free when you purchase the base game, and three-day, 10-day and 30-day passes will also be available.

Last we heard Square Enix stated that it was still considering whether to release Dragon Quest X in the west.

http://epn.tv/all/spotlight/cliff-bleszinskis-new-game-announced/Cliff Bleszinski’s Next Game Is a F2P Shooter Called Project BlueStreak
Unreal Tournament and Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski has announced his latest game.

It’s currently called BlueStreak (though that might change), and like the Unreal Tournament games, it will be a multiplayer arena shooter with a science fiction setting. Hardcore gamers might be a little disappointed to know that it’s free-to-play, but Bleszinski promises it will be a lot better than most free-to-play games. If it’s half as good as Unreal or Gears, we’ll be happy.

This is the first project from Bleszinski’s new studio Boss Key Productions, which he formed after leaving Epic Games in 2012. Project BlueStreak is being published by F2P gaming giant Nexon, but there’s no word yet on when it might arrive. That’s about all we know for now, but expect more details soon.

Namco Bandai has officially announced Tekken 7, and to prove it, they’ve released the first teaser trailer.

Few details about the new fighting game are known at this point, but expect all the familiar characters and arcade-style combat to return. Rather than run on a stand-alone graphics engine like the previous games, Tekken 7 is using the Unreal 4 engine, which the team says is giving them more time to concentrate on the fighting mechanics and characters.

That’s about all we know for now, but more details on Tekken 7 will be announced at the San Diego Comic-Con next week.
The new animated movie based on the game will land on DVD and Blu-ray on September 2. The film uses the same CG assets and voices as the game, which means we’ll get to hear Anna Torv as Nariko, Alfred Molina as King Bohan, and Thomas Jane as Loki.

Fingers crossed that the film does well enough to convince Sony to create a sequel.

The big screen Uncharted movie is set to begin shooting in 2015. That’s according to director Seth Gordon, who tells Zap2It that production will begin early in the year, which means they’ll need to start casting soon. This ends years of development hell for the project, which has been trying to get off the ground since the first Uncharted game came out back in 2007.

The move is part of Microsoft’s plan to lay off more than 18,000 employees over the next year, and restructure the company in order to focus more strongly on mobile and app development. This doesn’t mean Microsoft has any plans to get rid of the Xbox division as a whole. Despite rumours, the company’s new CEO Satya Nadella says Xbox is still a very important part of their future.

Xbox division head Phil Spencer says all of the programming that Xbox Entertainment Studios already has in development is still on the way, including their Atari documentary Signal to Noise, and the Ridley Scott series Halo: Nightfall.
The new game is simply titled Doom, and will not be called Doom 4 as originally expected. Expect the fast-paced combat of the original games to be back, along with plenty of iconic weapons. Doom is coming to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will run on the new id Tech 6 engine at 1080p and 60 frames-per-second on all platforms.

There’s no release window yet for the new Doom, but we’ll let you know when that changes.
You will not be able to play Battlefield Hardline this year.

EA has delayed the new cops vs robbers shooter. Originally slated to arrive this October, it will now launch in early 2015. Developer Visceral Games says they need more time than expected in order to address all the feedback they received during the game’s recent beta test, and add new features that players have requested. The extra time will also allow them to fix stability issues, and given the shaky launch of Battlefield 4, that sounds like a good idea.

EA has pushed back the release of the new game from October 7 to November 18. It seems developer BioWare needs a little more time to put some extra polish on the game, and make sure that it’s “the best it can be in the platform you choose to play on.” That seems to imply that one of the platforms is taking a little more time than the others, but there’s no indication which one it might be.

http://epn.tv/all/type-of/news/first-look-at-halo-nightfall/First Trailer for Halo: Nightfall
Today at the San Diego Comic-Con, Microsoft released the first trailer for their new digital series Halo: Nightfall. Take a look!

The show takes place between the events of Halo 4 and the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians, and will focus on a new soldier, Agent Jameson Locke. Viewers will get to witness his origins, and see the events that will lead into the story campaign of Halo 5. There will also be live-action versions of familiar Halo weapons, locations, and vehicles, which should be pretty cool.

Halo: Nightfall introduces a pivotal new character, Jameson Locke, a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Earth’s most powerful and secretive military branch. When he and his team are caught in a horrific biological attack, they unravel a plot that draws them to an ancient, hellish artifact, where they will be forced to fight for their survival, question everything, and ultimately choose between their loyalties and their lives.

Nightfall is being produced by Ridley Scott, and is directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who’s helmed episodes of Heroes, Falling Skies, and Under the Dome. It will premiere this fall on a variety of digital platforms, and will also be available with the Halo: Master Chief Collection that launches on November 11. The show was one of the first big projects from Xbox Entertainment Studios, the Microsoft subsidiary responsible for creating original film and television content, but they were recently shut down as part of the 18,000 layoffs at the company.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a vibrant game environment where the player orchestrates their personal plan of vengeance as they bend Mordor to their will. The game begins on the night of Sauron’s return to Mordor, as his Black Captains brutally execute the Rangers of the Black Gate. Players become Talion, a ranger who loses his family and everything he holds dear, only to be returned from death by a mysterious Spirit of vengeance. Based on the player’s actions with the in-game Nemesis System, every enemy encountered is distinct and can evolve to become a personal archenemy through the course of the game. As Talion’s personal vendetta unfolds, players uncover the mystery of the Spirit that compels him, discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis.

Anyone who pre-orders the game from EB Games or GameStop will get the exclusive Dark Ranger Character Skin, complete with his own challenge mode.

Atari: Game Over Trailer

From EPN:
Microsoft has released a trailer for their new documentary Atari: Game Over, which explores the failed launch of one of the most infamously bad games in history, E.T. for the Atari 2600. The game sold so poorly that it contributed to the death of Atari, and it also severely crippled the video game industry as a whole. 700,000 unsold copies of the game were buried in a New Mexico landfill, which was recently dug up by Microsoft for the documentary.

Atari: Game Over will premiere exclusively on Xbox Live this fall.

This is one of the many projects that was being handled by Xbox Entertainment Studios, the Microsoft subsidiary responsible for creating original film and television content for Xbox Live. The studio unfortunately closed its doors a few weeks ago as part of the more than 18,000 layoffs hitting the company.

Western video gamers crave violent titles while Japanese prefer fantasy RPGs

*August 05, 2014
http://ajw.asahi.com/article/cool_japan/style/AJ201408050016

This reminds me of Rail Wars where the male protagonist is afraid of and unused to guns.

Personally, I don’t believe that the US doesn’t want the more upbeat, whimsical fantasy games of Japan or that the graphics are playing that big of a role in this as the “retro” indie game market, where every game tries to capture the essence of the old Japanese SNES games, is ridiculously strong here.

Perhaps Japan should make good PC ports and release their games on Steam, other digital distributors, and mobile devices. The article says that 70% of the game market is PC and phone but far less than 70% of the Japanese games are available for them in the US.

I contend that J-games have fallen out of favor here because they’re less available, not because we in the US only want games with Jack Bauer.

This is rather awesome!
