Ace of Diamond / Daiya no A

Since I have nothing to marathon tomorrow when Dr Who premiere happens tonight, should I try this? Will it be as good as Prince of Tennis, Baby Steps, and Hayuki, or will it be Taisho Baseball Girls and Little Busters?

I don’t particularly like sports, but if I am going to watch a sports show, i want the sport to be depicted correctly and the sense to be more than just stuck up people like in the NBA/MBL/ NFL/etc and not as goofy as Fast Break was.

Also need something light after that Inn marathon I did this week.

So, what do the reviewers say?

I am not a fan of sports, so I don’t know how true-to-life this depiction is. However, I enjoy this anime along with Yowapeda. It has its funny moments and I like most of the characters, as well as the story.

Well a good story is the best you can ask for from a…story. Many don’t have much of a story and jsut go for funny, so I will see how the story goes then.

:pinch:

[hide]I don’t think that is the way the catcher should be handling the balls.[/hide]

So was was the verdict on this one?

I’m also in the “depict sports realistically” camp; if Initial D had been treated like the average baseball anime then it would have been Redline :frowning:

With the exception of the above mentioned scene, so far so good for what I know about it. Has your standard theme like the drive to be #1 and such of recent shows rather than Ryoma Echizen who was over-confident to begin with and had to learn to want it more. HAven’t seen any big mistakes unlike Sentai sub of Episode 2 of Hayuki, where they claim one of the players should be “catching” the ball.

Guessing school level or Japan rules baseball would be the reason for quirks I am not familiar with in the rules, like pop-warner style ending at 5 innings with a lead of X and such.

Really losing focus on who the main protagonist is as the show progresses, because I keep cheering for the team more and more than any one person.

Though I do wish someone would hit Miyuki with a flung bat at least twice an episode for his sadistic arrogance, no matter what his reasons are; he is no Shiroe from Log Horizon no matter how he tries to play as one.

Episode 45 –

spoiler

Inashiro vs. Sakurazawa. This is going to end up being very close. I was so sure that Seido would be facing Inashiro. Now, I just wonder if it will be Sakurazawa instead.

spoiler

What happens if nobody ever scores in baseball? Cause that is what it is looking like with knuckleball v fastball and nobody ever getting on base!

spoiler

Not sure of the official rule, I believe that the game would go into extra innings until one of the teams score. But in the anime, these teams are that good. The pitchers are great - no one can get a hit off either one of them! Not yet, anyway.

Episode 46 –

spoiler

Looks like the pressure is getting to Sakurazawa thanks to Inashiro. The Sakurazawa players are getting tense and making mistakes. The crowd cheering for Inashiro to win doesn’t help either. Akira tells his teammates that he never expected to win, but he really does want to go to Nationals. Can he pull his team to victory?

Sadly, the answer is no. Inashiro is the stronger team and Mei is one scary pitcher. Inashiro wins and will be facing Seido in the final. Sakurazawa leaves the field in tears. A shame that they lost after playing so well, but they were up against a really tough team. It was a miracle that Sakurazawa made it so far and they should still be proud of that fact. And Seido is all ready to face Inashiro and get their revenge!

Enough of the backstories! get on with the game.

Episode 51 –

spoiler

Seido finally faces Inashiro! Both teams plan on winning, but which one has the best strategy to achieve that win? I really want to see Seido go to Nationals! And they score the first run! All right! But Mei of Inashiro doesn’t plan on giving up any more runs to the opposing team. This is going to be intense!

Episode 52 –

spoiler

Mei is giving nothing up this time. Furuya pitches for Seido next as the crowd cheers him. Once on the mound, Furuya thanks his teammates in advance, which was a nice touch. Inashiro knows how Furuya pitches. Can he surprise them? It seems he can! Furuya is labeled a “monster” as Seido keeps the upper hand.

Mei still isn’t giving up anything either and when Furuya comes to bat against him, Mei intends to show him a thing or two, but it doesn’t turn out that way. Mei just isn’t at his best. Did giving up a run in the beginning of the game shake him up that much? Seido plans to press their advantage, but Mei is getting more aggressive.

Furuya pitches again and gets Harada out, before Mei faces him next. This game seems to be a battle of the pitchers! But Furuya gets Mei out as well. Strike after strike keeps the crowd cheering Furuya’s name! I hope he can keep this up!
