Ad It Up!

@Slowhand: I loled so hard at the Noxema ad. So innocent back then, so wrong today.

Here’s a treat for The Anime Network.
and here’s the second version of the spot-as far as I know, It may have only run once… but it didn’t need any more runs!

I don’t know much of the standards and practices of the 70’s. I just get a hint of it from Match Game but for some reason I’m surprised that pouring beer down her chest was allowed back then. Might be why they only aired it once.
I understand your questioning of it, but remember, this was in Seattle, and it was done by a local brewery, Rainier Beer. It was aired after the first spot had been airing for 6-8 weeks or more. At that point, most people would be tuning it out as something they had seen too many times before. By airing the second version during the local evening news, they ensured the largest number of people would see the spot-which meant that the largest number of people would be talking around the water cooler about the crazy commercial they saw the night before. It would also mean that people would be watching the spot intently for a long time after, in the hope that it would be the second version. All in all, an extremely clever way to freshen up a commercial.

That’s cool. It’s funny because the end explains the reason why that commercial is so popular. LOL!

Now going from freshening to polluting, here’s the Gecko.

Dood! I had that as a kid.

I didn’t but I loved these commercials. I miss them.
The real jets of water had to amaze people back then.

Here’s more.

Re-imagining of the carwash in 1996.

Fred and Barney make me want to smoke.

Let’s go back 4 decades before I was born. o_O

:_:

I remember these commercials but man were they weird.

I use to love this game as a kid. I’ve actually been trying to win one on ebay lately. Though I did have a friend that accused me of being a Satanist for playing it…lol

I remember that!!
Man this thread just shows what the past used to be like. Damn I miss those days. :frowning:

Remember when Nickelodeon used to be like this?
I wish these bumpers could be resurrected and updated.

THE BIG ORANGE COUCH! I miss SNICK! Not technically a commercial, but you have made it relevant:

This is is a commercial however:

I’ll allow them if they’re “classic themed” only. It’s just another alternate route.
Nick just happened to cross my mind.

Oh elementary school lunch period, This commercial reminds me of you.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/thecoffeegod/smilies/lol.gifI love this game commercial!

This is one of the most disturbing and manipulative commercials I have ever seen.

@Coffee: Whoa that was awesome.
@Newshawk: WTF? :huh:

Fetch some bananas.

Yeah, that was an actual commercial. I remember seeing it on TV, only I though it aired before 1970. That would still fit in the timeframe, however, as I saw it while I was still in high school.

Beware… the cups are evil!!!

We can’t forget these. This started a (still going strong today) worldwide addiction.

I remember watching this and then watching Beast Wars afterwards. Afternoon cartoons FTW!

I had Blue.

Some of the best commercials for instant coffee ever made, starring the future Rupert Giles of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, Anthony Michael Head and Sharon Maughan. These were the English version, for Nescafe’s Gold Blend coffee but they were reshot for the American version, Taster’s Choice. The original Gold Blend series was written to be three spots long but proved so popular the series ran for 11 episodes over a five year period. This is a compilation of all the commercials in one video:
