Air Gear

[quote=dragoon]
And now to wait :frowning: to Friday for the final Volume with the famous/infamous manga ending.[/quote]

Of which, I’ve already seen two episodes of from back when it aired.
Not sure which ones yet, they were probably that last two though.

But yeah, now the wait, while I cram in all the other VOD episodes and forget what happened in the last DVD. lol

Thank you for the compliment, Dragoon. I try!

So, I watched the final episodes. I didn’t really want it to end, but I guess it had to at some point. Oh well…

[details=spoiler]Genesis takes its first ride with Ikki as leader. A dramatic moment and he asks for coffee and doughnuts! Hysterical.

Ikki finds out that if he takes down Trophaeum, he also takes down Ringo.

Surprised that Akira went back to work with Kaito. Kaito still thinks he can use his brother as an “inside man”.

Class trip to Kyoto will be an opportunity to meet the king of Trident. Ikki decides that Kogarasumaru will make it to the top on their own.

Very funny moment between Tom Tom in her baby dolls and Orihara.

Trip is also a chance for Ikki and Ringo to hook up. Backfires when Ringo thinks Ikki is going to kiss her and he asks her a question instead.

Ringo shows a stronger side when their friends are kidnapped and she takes control. Funny when Ikki had his pants pulled down to make him skate better! But at least he got why.

The kidnappers have a hard time of it with Emili kicking them in the nuts. Then Agito, in a dress and handcuffs, take them out totally. Find out that Trident is run by a computer and a council. They have no faith in Ikki to be the leader of Genesis and this leads to a challenge of a Devil’s 30/30 jump over 33 friends.

Loved the torture scene with Orihara and the guys!

On the night of the jump, liked the scene when the DJ says that he is working for free and the producer comes out to shake his hand. Then he says that he still wants to be paid in real life because “anime and reality are different”.

Wanting to break Sora’s record, Yoshitsune makes his jump and aces it. But he does not break the record.

Everyone shows up to support Ikki, but of the friends that he is to jump over, no one wants the end – they don’t think he can do it. They fight and Ringo steps and takes the end spot, proving her faith in (& love for) Ikki.

Ikki jumps, but cheats and ends up falling on Ringo. In order to protect her, he accidentally injures his knee. He is accused of not taking the jump and the situation seriously. He apologizes and asks to try again. He takes several more jumps and Ringo again has doubts.

Once everyone sees that he won’t give up, even with an injury, the crowd starts to believe in him. There are a few flashbacks to childhood where he is shown to love the sky and flying.

All this time, Agito is in a dress. He finally gets his clothes – another funny moment – and tosses the team jacket to Ikki. Ikki gets the “look” on his face and his friends stand up, knowing that he will ace the jump this time.

He ends up breaking the record and has reinforced his claim as Sky King. Everyone now believes that he can lead Genesis. A great moment in the story!

Love the scene with Simca rethinking her hair cut and Spitfire telling her “no refunds”. Guess she will grow it back now (& that should make Coffee very happy!).[/details]

It was a great series that ended on a good note. It would have been nice to see where the story goes from here.
The group viewing was fun too – thanks for having it. We should do this again sometime.

So with this, it finishes off the series.

DVD 6 (episodes 22-25)

[details=spoiler]

Though I haven’t mentioned it as of yet, I do find it rather humorously ironic, that a lascivious girl like Simca, is called “Simca The Swallow”.

It was the final two episodes I saw when it aired.
Of which, though very surprising to me, I remembered them fairly well.

And so the Devils 30/30 is in place.
Ringo lays at the end, and with Agito’s help from the Fang Regalia, it looks like Ikki might make it.
But Rumble Regalia sucks up the wind and Ikki falls and hurts his knee.

After many failed tries again, he finally pulls it off, this time breaking the record.

And that is how it ends.

Though yes, it’s left open for possible future releases, it actually ended both on a good note and with some sort of closure, unlike a lot of series that end while the manga is still on-going.[/details]

All in all, it turned out better than I expected from how I entered this series.
However, to me, it’s definitely not as good as everyone raves about.
If I actually wind up watching this again, it’ll be at least a few years down the road.

[details=spoiler]I thought the “swallow” name was funny too. Many meanings…

But if you take it in another context, swallow can fly with little crow. Birds of a feather. Almost makes sense in how Simca pursues him. Ringo as a member of “Sleeping Forest” is rooted to the ground. I saw this everytime Simca and Ringo had words about Ikki, and it made me think which girl would be the better choice for Ikki. I still pick Ringo for him. But I still like Simca the best. [/details]

Oh, we will.
This is the 7th one we’ve done to this point.
I’m not sure what series we’re going to do next, and it’ll probably be a little while before we do so, but we’re definitely going to do it again.

It’s kinda become “tradition” with dragoon and I, and the series I’ve bought at his urgings. It started with a Le Chevalier D’Eon group viewing, when a whole bunch of us bought the series around the same time, and it just kind of snowballed from there, since he wanted to watch the series I bought because of him with me and get my opinion on them.

It’s a great idea. It’s nice to do this together and get each other’s opinions. People always see things differently. You guys saw things that I didn’t and it made me go back and look again. I got more out of it that way.

I’m sorry I wasn’t here for D’Eon. That must have been a good one! That series was beautiful and amazing.

Anyway, looking forward to the next one.
Hope we can get more people on board next time too.

Sorry couldn’t watch it last night as I was working on a few things.

While it has the manga ending as you guys saw, I liked the uplifting note it ended on. There was some closure as Coffee suggested, yet still a door left open for the rest of the storyline, if they ever choose to continue it in Anime form.

Just finished watching it and enjoyed it a lot, as I have the previous 2x I watched it. It’s just a fun show that’s a blast with the trendy and cutting edge presentation that targets the culture and demographic it covers. It taps into the whole spirit and human desire of flight, with great and fun characters, with stylish designs Oh! Great is known for.

Now that they’ve doubled the manga count since they finished this series, I just hope one day they decide to make a sequel or wrap up the rest of the storyline… and if they do, they better get ADV Studios/Seraphim Studios to do the dub, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!

That would be the best outcome, but really, do you think that’ll ever happen with the way things are, even if they do decide to make another one?

Nope, I don’t see it happening at all. :frowning: Especially in this case the manga is FAR more popular than the anime was (not to mention all the teens that liked this series who didn’t buy it), so by comparison from a business perspective they were probably disappointed in the anime output.

Then again no one expected Inuyasha and that took like 5 years after before they decided to continue it (and in that case when they ended it, it was a monster hit). Japanese business are stubbornly patient, unlike businesses here - if it takes 2 years or 100 years they will wait, if they think that’s when the right window of opportunity is.

So, I had dream based on this series last night.

It wasn’t directly following this series so much as it had elements pulled from it (as well as the soccer parts from Wedding Peach lol).

I don’t remember much of it now, but when I woke up, I was laughing to myself that out of all the seires I’ve watched, it had to take from this one; one I didn’t like overly much.

Sounds like a pretty interesting dream! Might make a good anime…

It’s a subliminal message that deep within you like this more than you realize. It’s blooming within you slowly and surely.

Caught an episode of this on Funi’s VOD. I really liked it. Not sure why I thought I;d dislike it. In the opening sequence I could have sworn I saw Chiaki J. Konaka as head writer for this. Checked it out, and he was indeed. Perhaps that’s why I liked it. Oh and the dub on this is great. Chris Patton as the main kid…priceless. Greg Ayres as the fat guy is pretty funny too…lol. Now this is a high quality late era ADV dub if one ever existsed. I’d want to watch this show for the dub alone, but the show is much better then I’d expected. I like the whole rollerblading thing it has going on, and I like how it’s got a story going on too, no one area takes up too much of the show. And there’s enough time for fanservice hehe  . I’ll have to catch more of this now. Also this title could have been pretty popular IMO if the stars were lined up. I think this is something the less hardcore people would enjoy. People on Planetzot were raving about it(yestorday), and they are very casual anime fans.

While watching this though I kept thinking of the better times when ADV still had this and the other Sojitz stuff. Makes me kinda sad :frowning: .

Indeed. :frowning: This was one of my favorite ADV/Sojitz era releases. The dub was amazing.

I love this series. Great story, funny and it’s got your fast and furious adrenaline fix BUT it ended on a cliffhanger. It needs a second season of 12-13 episodes maybe.

In fact speaking of second season, I’ve been asked by the same person if this happening twice. Same answer I gave is sadly no (at least nothing mentioned yet)

Yes unfortunately I had to pick up the Funimation set. I wanted the ADV volume set but this will do. It’s not so bad though. You get 2 volumes in a glossy laminated box. Guyver has the same look with a 3rd disk being extras.
On the plus side I don’t have to complain about lack of space…yet.

^ Yeah maybe some time down the road I’d buy that boxset.

Still surprised I liked this. I thought I would hate it for some reason. It was not at all anoying or anything like that. Also the music is a strong point, I like it.

Yes great intro and the first episode really opens the door to the meat of the show. Loved it immediately even though my computer was acting crappy at the time I watched it here.
The boxset is a little over $40 which is about right since that’s what many companies seem to be at. I got it for $49 at Best Buy but you can get it for $42 at Amazon.

RightStuf still has the ADV bundle set available if you’re looking for the ADV set.

Air Gear DVD Bargain Bundle (Hyb)

Hey that’s a great price! :oh my: Come to think of it, I might start buying stuff from them since they sent me their Fall 2009 anime catalog. This would be a perfect guide.
