Anime Network VOD Reports/Updates/Questions Thread (2022)

Welcome to the Anime Network Video On Demand (VOD) thread!

Please make every effort to report back when your issues are resolved. If you do not report back, your Missing Content remains on the report week after week.

We cannot guess that you’ve received your content unless you tell us! There are too many of you (in this thread and by PMs) for me to try to figure out that if you don’t report back that you’ve received your content (or not).

Thanks for all your help!

Slowhand - Moderator

I send in the VOD Report on MONDAY mornings. Please try to report your issues as soon as possible and we’ll get right on it!

Anime Network VOD Reports/Updates/Questions Thread (2022)

Before posting (newcomers), please look around the resources and the recent pages in this thread before complaining. In many cases your questions might be covered already.

Please read, learn and participate:

Links and Resources:

Video On Demand Schedules
Anime Network Blogs
Video On Demand General Info & Response Thread - this is a catch-all for all the information I receive from Administration (easier than trying to scroll through this thread).

Use this forum to discuss, submit questions/complaints/suggestions with other Anime Network viewers.

(Click arrows to read complete explanations):

I. We need your Zip Code and Cable/Satellite Provider to Help

When submitting reports of problems, it is important to provide us with information of your cable/network/VOD provider, and your Zip Code (this information is needed to track down the problem). (PM this to Slowhand if you want to keep the information private) and other information about the nature of the problem, as well as the specific anime/episode in question. Anime Network and your Cable/Satellite Provider can not help you without this information.

II. Please contact your Cable/Satellite Provider with information on missing updates

It is equally important that you call or email your Cable/Satellite/Service provider along with posting in this thread, as most problems are usually the result of problems on their side or the VOD company they subcontract to update the content that Anime Network sends to them.

Viewers experiencing missing updates need to contact your cable provider.

If you do not report the problem, then the systems do not seek to replace it after it fails for some reason. The more you call, the more the cable provider will pay attention to making sure Anime Network is working properly.

When making a call to your provider, it is usually best to request to speak to the manager or the supervisor. Usually, regular customer service representatives can only take down your request, but don’t have much power beyond that.

Please make sure the Customer service agent you speak to understands that Anime Network has sent the episodes and there may be a local problem with either their network, full disc drives or some other technical problem that is preventing the delivery of the episodes (this depends on the circumstances which can be case specific).

You have to try to make them file the report or speak to the supervisor, understand the problem and not let them give you the run around of “we only post what we are sent to by the provider” (this is a stock response) so that it can be sent to their VOD department.

III. Missing Updates - Where are my updates?

VOD technology allows great convenience in that it allows viewers to watch a wide range of programming through your cable box without having to go out to rent or buy DVDs from many programming options, but it is a very complex technology. Your Cable or Satellite provider or their VOD subcontracting companies like (InDemand, etc.) are responsible for granting you the user access to these updates. There are so many layers and handlers of the data, including subcontracting VOD companies that handle the infrastructure, storage, VOD file management for your Cable companies. This is normally why Cable companies usually have a hard time fixing or dealing with VOD.

A lot of the large cable providers have different regional operation centers that handle the VOD for certain regions. This complicates it because human error can happen, if someone from your area’s VOD department forgot to make the updates Anime Network sent them available or if your area’s VOD hard drives are full… they reject the updates Anime Network sends them.

Anime Network may be able to determine whether the updates were sent out or not, but after that point, the responsibility of the update will go to your Cable provider or the company that manages the content sent to them.

(This is why it’s important to let your cable provider’s customer service department know and take note of the issue and report it to their VOD department. See above information)

Reports submitted by the viewers will be looked over by Anime Network in the reports sent to them, and they will try to get your Cable/Satellite provider to fix it from this side – but there is only so much Anime Network can do to convince your Cable/Satellite provider without your help on fixing the issue.

IV. Why are the shows starting at episode 5 and why can't I get the entire series of a show at once?

Anime Network always shows series from the beginning (unless it’s a special circumstance). It’s a moving train of content, every week new shows and episodes are posted, eventually they start back at episode 1 or different shows at episode 1.

Most people think Video On Demand means every single episode available of every show. While this is now true for Subscription VOD (showing entire series, but NOT the entire catalog), it’s not true for FREE VOD. VOD in general works pretty much like TV does, except the episodes are available usually for a month to be viewed anytime, then they are replaced, with weekly updates that are posted every Thursday (Some providers post it early on Wednesday afternoon/night). That’s how the cable providers operate VOD in general.

Cable companies place a limit on what the content providers, like Anime Network can provide. For Free VOD carriers this is usually 30 hours of storage space a month. So Anime Network and other VOD providers have to work within those constraints.

SVOD - their schedules are different from the posted FreeVOD and will have their own independent schedules.

A few first episodes of shows are for free (with ads) at HIDIVE.
Subscriptions are currently available for a low price.

V. Why is buying Sentai Filmworks and Section23 Films DVD/BDs of show that are available on Anime Network important?

It is the foundation of income and helps Sentai Filmworks, Section23 Films and other Anime production and licensing studios to acquire new anime series for Anime Network.

If you like a show on Anime Network, please show your support and buy the legal Sentai Filmworks, Section23 Films DVD/BDs from respected retailers like Sentai Filmworks Shop or Right Stuf.com or at your local Best Buy, Fry’s or Walmart, and other retailers – a lot of these shows are expensive to license and produce for English audiences. While VOD ad revenue does help to pay for some of this access, if you want new shows and new productions – DVD/BD sales are incredibly important in allowing Anime Network to acquire new shows from Japan!

Without your financial support, it means less shows, and less services.

VI. This is what's required from you who are reporting problems:

When you report a problem or missing update, we need you to provide your Cable/Satellite or VOD provider for Anime Network (TAN) and also your Zip Code (City, State would also be helpful). This information is now necessary to help track down your problems with your Cable/Satellite/VOD provider.

For example:
DirecTV, 78702 (Austin, TX)
(Your Report)

If you do not provide us information we are not going to be able to help you.

The weekly report is sent to Anime Network every Monday (except holidays). This gives a chance for all episodes to load from the previous Thursday.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Happy New Year, y’all. Regardless of what you had to deal with in 21, I hope 22 is better for all.

Now. Having said that, on to the rant…

I’m thinking it’s about time that someone at TAN seriously starts rattling chains about all the glitches in DirecTV’s FVOD feed. After all this time, they still affect over half (usually more like 3/4) of TAN’s programming. I don’t know if the problems are occurring with TAN, DTV or the middleman between them (whoever they are), but it’s been going on for waaaaaaaay too long now, and it’s past time for somebody to set down their coffee and donut and either fix it or figure out who has to fix it and get them to set down their coffee and donut and make it happen. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve looked at the schedule (thanks, @SpaceCobraJoe), then gone to brand “CR” to stream roughly 85-90% of your schedule skip-free. Their service is free too, I just have to watch on a 19 inch computer monitor instead of a 50-something-inch big screen, but maybe a $30 Chromecast stick fixes that?

Back to business. Look. If TAN, or DTV, or the middleman needs help troubleshooting, I’m not hard to find. I’ll even give you a first possible clue now - With I think only one exception, all of the glitchy content I’ve seen in all this time has at least one other thing in common: they’re all missing the usual TAN intro/outro. I suspect others would be willing to help as well, if they haven’t already completely bailed on you.

OK, I’m done. Feel free to finish your coffee and donut now…

PS: The people reading this should know whether they should be offended by this rant or not. If they shouldn’t be, no apology is needed. If they should, I got these few additional words for you: Go get a napkin, wipe those donut crumbs off your face, and get to frickin’ work.

LOL.

Sorry it looks like I’m ignoring you. There’s been some shake-ups lately and I’m sort of at a standstill.

The person who was taking care of the VOD stuff left before Christmas, and it was all shuffled over to someone else who already had a large workload. They’ve hired someone new to take over, but he hasn’t officially done so yet.

I have had several conversations about this with the previous person, and the problem is that DirecTV & Spectrum both tell us that they aren’t seeing any problems on their end.

Now that we’re in limbo between our people, I have to wait until the new person takes over and try to explain all this again.

Please be assured that I bring this up EVERY WEEK and if I can ever get an answer to anything, I will share it.

I see.

I had forgotten that Spectrum users had also been reporting glitches as well. Are they still?
+++++++++++++++
You probably already know this, but these glitches started being reported in mid-2020. Looking back at the archives, there appeared to be successful re-pitches of affected content. Please pass them along - perhaps it’ll jog someone’s memory. Here are bits/pieces of my posts:

Post 1 - Aug. 7, 2020, 3:38 PM EDT: "For the new wrinkle - it appears that an attempt is being made to correct the “missing intro/outro/skipping” issue…

Under the “Missed it? Watch now!” category, five additional episodes have appeared that at first glance appear to be duplicates of prior, non-current episodes. These “duplicates” are shown alongside their “originals” under their regular (SHFT/GP/AZ). Titles are identical - in fact, the only difference I can see between them are a one-minute difference in run time. It appears so far that the newly-loaded dups contain the missing TAN intros/outros that were missing in the originals. I’m currently in the process of downloading both originals and dups, and will advise once I see them.

New “duplicate” episodes are as follows:

Chunibyo #6 (run time 24 vs 25 minutes)
Pastel Memories #9 ((24 vs 25 minutes)
Tsurune #3 (25 vs 26 minutes)
Ushio & Tora # 37 and 38 (both 24 vs 25 minutes)

To be continued…"

Post 2 - Aug. 8, 2020, 11:42 PM EDT: " Follow-up on the five replacement episodes:

For brevity sake, I will refer to the replacement episodes that contained the TAN intro/outro as the “longer” episodes, and the original eps that did not contain them as the “shorter”.

Bottom line: All five of the “shorter” episodes had at least two multi-second audio/video skips embedded within the episode. None of the “longer” episodes had any skips - every one of them played without incident.

Please pass up the chain of command my thanks for the corrected episodes, and my request to do likewise with the other affected episodes, which have been detailed elsewhere in this thread."

Will do, and hopefully this new person will be able to fix this issue.

Many thanks for all your help.

I haven’t been through all but I can say that the listed Non Non Biyori ep. 6 is from Non Non Biyori and not Non Non Biyori non-stop ep 6 which is listed with the right description.
From what I have seen, Cobra ep 1-2, Kanamemo 1-2 and Mysterious girlfriend x ep 13 are the right episodes. Besides the no openings part, I haven’t seen anything else wrong.

Updates Received/Not Received 1/6/22 :: Time Warner Cable :: Albany, NY :: Zip Code 12203

A new year, so let’s try some new stuff, this time a more integrated format:

The short version:

All scheduled episodes arrived on Cutting Edge and On Demand, except for Non Non Byori III #6–we got a reprise of Non Non Biyori Season 1 #6 instead. (Between this and To Love Ru Darkness, AN seems to be having a lot of trouble differentiating between seasons lately.)

(While nothing should be happening at the Sentai High Sports Festival, still under the aegis of the “To be Continued” sign, the faithless fabric invaders have nonetheless been capturing and forcing Streaker Society members at scissors-point to clothe themselves. Now only Ahira no Sora 45 & 46, Chihayafuru II 19 & 20, Long Riders #2 and To Love Ru Darkness#4 remain naked and very much afraid.)

The long version, this time with Comments integrated in:

Received:

Ahira no Sora 45 & 46; no promo or mecha

Beyond the Boundary 12;
They started a new tile for this on On Demand, but since the poster tile image has to be coming from AN (it’s not like TW Spectrum has all these images on file and then decides which one to use), it almost certainly another–if minor-- issue with the bundle AN sent out

Chihayafuru II 19 & 20; no promo or mecha

Cobra 1 & 2

D4DJ 5

Devil’s Line 9

Kanamemo 1 & 2
Why do I keep thinking the character design makes this look like “When the Long Rider Girls Were Young in an Alternate Dimension”?

Long Riders 2; no promo or mecha

Mysterious Girlfriend X 13

Non Non Byori I 6
Season One’s #6 instead of Season Three’s #6

To Love Ru Darkness 4; no promo or mecha
They’ve switched to the first season of To Love Ru Darkness, the season we were supposed to be getting. So we have #1-#3 of Season Two and #4 of Season One. Would it be too much to ask that they just send us Season One’s (that’s Season One of To Love Ru Darkness, NOT Season One of To Love Ru!) #1-#3 at one go, and then continue with Season One’s #5, #6, etc.,so that purists like shadzar, who often refuse to watch a show if they can’t watch it in order, and semipurists like me, who greatly prefer to see things in order, could catch it from the beginning? Or are they really planning to show us the rest of To Love Ru Darkness Season One now, and then show us To Love Ru Darkness Season One #1-#3 when they show us the rest of To Love Ru Darkness Season Two? Sorry to snark, but I don’t have much faith that you’ll remember to do that when that future time finally rolls around months from now. Best all around and simpler and easier on everyone, viewers and tech crew alike, to just correct the small three-episode error now and then simply roll out Season Two in order when the time comes.

Still, as I told MaouSadao,

“But To order none than Ru even Love out better of motto motto is!”

Missing in Action:

Non Non Byori III 6

To Love Ru Darkness I 1, 2, 3

Arriving Unexpectedly:

None

Thanks!
