Horror anime based on Yuki Ayatsuji’s novel debuts in Japan in January

I’ve been keeping my eye on this one as information has been coming out about it
So far, it looks like it might actually be pretty good.
I kinda hope Sentai picks this up, or at the very least, someone simulcasts it.

Now the question is:

Who. Will. Simulcast it?

Will it be Sentai?

Funi?

or Crunchyroll?

The world awaits…

…dum, dum, dummmm…

B)

I’m going with either CrunchyRoll or Sentai for this. Probably licensed for Sentai with a simulcast on CR deal if anything. I hear the Geneon Universal titles are finally starting to move so I have a feeling between them and DBZ Funimation has it’s hands full. Plus noticing they seem to be slowing a little since they’ve moved back to owned by their selves .

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “ANOTHER”

HOUSTON, January 16, 2012— Sentai Filmworks is ghoulishly pleased to announce the acquisition of ANOTHER, the eagerly awaited new anime series that dares to ask the question: What do you do when your classmate’s school locker is a locker in the morgue? Based on the hit novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, the 12 episode series joins the manga, written by Ayatsuji and illustrated by MELANCHOLOY OF HARUHI SUZIMIYA’s Noizi Ito, and the forthcoming live action feature film (due Summer 2012) as part of the latest hit horror franchise to erupt from Japan. Tsutomu Mizushima (BLOOD C, KOBATO, XXXHOLIC) directs from series composition by Ryo Higaki (MORIBITO-GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT) while Yuriko Ishii (Persona – Trinity Soul) adapts Ito’s original character designs for animation.

Mei Misaki was cute, athletic and one of the most popular girls in her school. Why should a little thing like death change that? Now, 23 years after Mei’s mysterious demise, a new transfer student discovers that not only is his school’s student body one corpse short of a full roster, but that some secrets never leave high school. And what’s more, all of this may somehow be tied into his own family past. What is the secret and how does it all connect? And even if Kouichi does figure it out, will that knowledge help save him? As the school bells toll a deadly dirge and students begin to die, things that were never properly buried come back to haunt the high school of the damned in ANOTHER!

ANOTHER will soon be available digitally through multiple outlets, with a home video release on DVD and Blu-Ray scheduled for later this year.

Fantastic first episode! A couple of moments gave me chills and I can’t wait to see more of this one!

Episode 3 in three words…

Pointed Umbrellas Bad

Starts Feb. 9th @ 3pm EST on the AN Online Player

Apparently I missed this thread a while ago. I’m certainly interested in trying to watch Another, especially with how much praise I’ve heard about it from the J-List blogger. Sorry, I don’t know his name, but he’s got a lot of interesting things to say and many of the shows/games he recommends do sound good.

This show has the same problem that so many other ‘horror’ anime have.

The MC appears to be so incredibly dense he doesn’t even think to ask anyone ‘hey guys, what the hell is going on?’ And then when you do ask and they say ‘Oh well I’ll tell you later okay?’ YOU DON’T SAY ‘OH OKAY THAT’S COOL BEANS I’M SURE NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN.’ It’s so frustrating watching this and thinking the whole time ‘just give me a damn answer already!’

I dropped this one like a hot potato.

Strange, I can’t stand Hollywood horror (Very dull and boring to me, it’s just a massive fright fest with no real attempt at a storyline. I almost fell asleep watching House on a Haunted Hill back when it was in theaters.), but I usually love horror animes. And remember, it’s an anime, you need to take a few things with a grain of salt. Not to mention, I like trying to figure out what is going on before they tell me.

Loving this show so far.

I agree with you Razmoudah. I have no love for Hollywood horror or much of anything from Hollywood for that matter. However, some of the Japanese horror films I’ve seen were done really well, that is until Hollywood makes their version! I find foreign films in general to be much better and some TV as well. That being said, I also enjoy horror anime. There is definitely more of a story to enjoy.

Episode 2 –

I noticed that the entire town seems kind of run down. The elevator at the hospital seems really scary – especially since it was moving with no one on it. The doll shop was a bit creepy as well. And what is under that eyepatch?!
