while browsing around today I ran into a listing for a “Clannad Special Edition Movie”, region 2 only, with a crazy high price and little to no details about content. Based on the pictures it seems to follow AfterStory. My guess is this is something that hasn’t been picked up by Section23 yet - anyone know for sure what it’s about?
It’s an alternate retelling of Clannad Season 1. Actually came out before Season 1’s broadcast premiere, so technically I guess the TV series is an alternate retelling of it. It has not been picked up by Sentai Filmworks and Section23, probably won’t be since it’s not in high demand.
Just saw episode 8 of After Story -

The two gangs are getting out of hand and Sunohara (mistakenly thought to be Yukine’s brother, Kazuto) is to fight the leader of the other gang. He is nervous and Nagisa gives out her mother’s rainbow bread to the guys and they all pass out! Very funny!! But Tomoya has to step in and the fight scene is pretty intense.
And it was sad to find out that Kazuto was really dead all this time. But, at least it looks like the two gangs will settle down now and stop fighting - as Kazuto wished.
I’m really enjoying this show very much!! Perhaps more so than the first season.
The Clannad movie is and adaption of the visual novel, so it incorporates story ideas/plot points from both Clannad tv seasons. An abridged version so to speak; so that would make the tv series a more ‘truer’ adaption of the game.
I’ve seen the movie and it’s good/okay. It was animated by Toei Animation so a lot of the characters are slighty different; design wise and in one case personality wise. Nothing radical, but if you’ve seen the tv series first (and fell in love with the characters) then you will notice the difference when and if you see the movie.

Figured he was dead before the finally said it. Did like that the jam of doom from Kannon made an appearance. LOL
I’m enjoying several aspects of this show also…

…but right now I’m more focused on what happens to Tomoya & Nagisa, I wish they’d stop with all the side stories.
Sure, it’s been interesting finding out about the housemother and her backstory; and about the gangs, but I’d really rather continue on with the main people.
But, I’m not giving up yet. I’ve followed it so far, and I know there’s more in store for these kids.
Yes, Slow, I thought that too.
I was hoping that this series would concentrate more on Tomoya and Nagisa, especially after the way the show started. I want to know what happens with those two and see them grow up more!!
Don’t worry, they have 14 episodes to go (not counting the two extra episodes). Many series tell an entire story in 12 episodes!
I really need to sit down and watch my DVDs of this. I decided to wait until I had both collections, then I tried to watch Kaleido Star, and then all the Christmas stuff… Maybe I can start tomorrow. If it’s like the first series, and I hear it’s even better, I will probably watch the entire thing in a couple days.
According to descriptions for the part II set, it will be more focused on Tomoya and Nagisa… and from the sound of it, keep the kleenex handy.
Episode 9 of After Story -

We are finally back to Tomoya and Nagisa! But a sad episode. Graduation approaches and Nagisa gets sick and can’t finish the year. It is decided that she will have to repeat it, but Tomoya doesn’t want to graduate without her. He’d like to repeat the year as well.
However, Nagisa’s dad convinces him that it would be more of a burden to Nagisa if he did repeat the year with her. But, Tomoya seems to be lost without Nagisa and loses weight. The scene where Nagisa asks him to hold her had was very touching.
We find out that Nagisa’s birthday is 12/24 and she is well enough to have a small party. All the friends are there and Tomoya gives her a stuffed Dango - too sweet! But it was sad to see that she could hardly blow out the candles on her cake.
Then it is graduation day and Tomoya skips the party to go home to Nagisa. He is surprised to find her waiting outside for him. She says that she wanted to see him in his uniform one last time. He breaks down and confesses that the last year of school was fun only because of her and that is why he wanted to repeat the year with her.
Another touching moment happens when Nagisa wants to hold his hand and walk with him. And Tomoya says he wanted to walk forever. So sweet!!! I can’t wait to see where their lives go from here!
If you want to know, I’ll tell you. They…ummm, maybe not. No, no…I’ll really tell this time. They go…ohhh, I don’t know if I should. But maybe I should…maybe not…maybe yes…oh, decisions, decisions.
Okay, I’ve decided to tell you…
RED HERRING did it…
Oh, those damn meddling kids…
No! No! No! Don’t tell me!
And I love A Pup Named Scooby Doo!
It’s funny… I’m a 56 year old grandfather and I was pleasantly surprised to find out Nagisa and I share the same birthday!
Where do I pick up my otaku badge?
Wow that’s awesome! Do your kids or grandkids enjoy anime also as you do?
No, my youngest daughter is a manga fan… I don’t know if any of my other kids are into anime or manga. Guess I’ll have to ask. I have told her about AN on Demand as she has DirecTV.
Seriously, should we rate this show by how many hankies you need per episode?
Happy Birthday, Nagisa, from the one who shares your birthday!
After Story Episode 10 -
spoiler
Nagisa is better and returns to school, but I think she is lonely without her friends. No one joins the Drama Club and it gets shut down. Tomoya starts working at the bakery, but wants to be more independent. He gets his own apartment and with Yoshino’s help, a new job. Nagisa’s father tells Tomoya that he can always come to him if he ever needs help. But I like the long pause when Tomoya asks if he can take Nagisa someday. Finally the father tells him that Nagisa can make her own decisions.
Then Nagisa and her father help Tomoya move in and the father leaves Nagisa there. Tomoya looks really uncomfortable about that! But as she makes tea and sings the Dango song, he wonders if it would be like that if they lived together. A real aww moment!
He spends his first night alone and says that he can’t rely on anyone. But Nagisa is there in the morning to wake him up and cook him breakfast. Isn’t that cheating? -lol- Anyway, she says that she will also make him dinner and when he says he may be late, she says that she will wait for him – another aww moment! But his first day on the new job is so rough that he falls asleep over Nagisa’s dinner. Poor guy! But at least he is finally growing up and taking on adult responsibilities.
Episode 11 is full of aww moments as well. It’s not hard to appreciate the frustration Tomoya must be feeling. Will things work out to a happy ending? I really couldn’t say at this point.
