yeah, Microsoft was required by law to make it so that Internet Explorer wasnt a required thing for internet browsing and people could choose their own browser with its own security features, so Microsoft decided to jsut make it a PART of Windows, so that it isnt required as a browser, but you can’t get rid of it, it always has cookies stored to it when you aren’t using a browser but something else that functions to go online like a game, etc…
i miss windows 3.0. no registry to turn into a cluster&^%$, each program had its own settings. now everything must have its own section in the registry, in some roaming section for each user, and the ability to hide ANYTHING is less and everything is less secure because everything is in the same place for anyone that uses a windows computer as many don’t know how to change things.

but hey having just an operating system isnt enough, you have to have their proprietary video player, even if you dont want it, internet browser even if you dont want it, and everything else.
and operating system should only run other programs, and handle hardware. windows has done TOO much since 2000, and this is why everyone of them has been broken. they are trying to turn the desktop into an xBox so they only need one division again to design things and can make the games work for both and get the productivity and gaming market at the same time without needing a new section to design special gaming hardware! to hell with computers these day. jsut glorified Gameboys, for people who didnt grow up with them in the 90s. hell an iP{hone is jsut a damn PDA from the early 90s with a touchscreen and update computing power.
The consoles aren’t more powerful than the PC. The 360/PS3 struggled to even attain 720p60 in games and the PS4 and Xbone are struggling with 1080p60 while the PC did not, despite the consoles having the advantage of being the target platform for so many games.
it isnt a literal, but when you ahve 4 gigs of memory you only have 4 gigs of memory. if one core is using it all, then it doesnt matter how many cores you have, they wont run because they dont have any memory to use. that is the problem with multi-core sharing memory.
i could care less about this HD crap of 1080p or whatever, the console is still built with dedicated memory for the GPU, so it doesnt need anything shared or taken from the CPU. even if it isnt a perfect pretty on the screen as someone wants it, does it really affect the speed other things happen? the HID component is a failure because all that fancy HD crap isnt worth a thing when you cant see a discreditably difference. they just got to figure that out if the game looks clunky and cut back on the number of assets because the CPU is working fine it seems jsut as in the old days, the new video modes cant be kept up as quickly for the GPUs, and they will have the same @4ghz limit of processing speed.
there is also the whole thing where as the amount of memory capability increases with the speed, that programs themselves dont run much faster than they did on a windows 98 machine because the amount of crap required for the operating system to function at all. and that has nothing to do with video processing.
The PS4/Xbone do not have separate memory for the GPU and CPU though.
If one task is taking up all of the RAM then the system will start using the hard drive when other tasks need more ram, swapping data in and out of RAM as needed.
well that is just stupid. before using HDD they had enough power to do things, then they go and invent Window95 and give a console a memory swapfile? this is the dumbest thing in existance!
Swapfiles were a God send back in the mid 90’s. If you were a computer user in a business and needed to create a spreadsheet that manipulated a significant amount of data you were bound to end up pushing some of that data out to the swapfile. It kept your PC usable and your boss from screaming at you about when that report was going to be done.
Now that memory is relatively cheap it makes sense to load up your PC with as much as possible, so my personal and company laptops have 8 GB and our Quad Core PC has 16 GB and a SSD Boot Drive.
I don’t know if they’re using the HDD like that either, when I made the comment I was only thinking about PC. Since the new consoles come stock with a HDD I’d hope that they take advantage of the HDD as games loading from DVD on the 360 was really slow.
Sadly I saw this benchmark that shows that putting a SSD, which makes a huge difference on the PC, into the PS4 does almost nothing to improve performance. So maybe they don’t.
I miss RAM being inexpensive. The RAM I bought before the Hynix fire for ~80 bucks sells for about 2x that now. Hopefully DDR4 will come out soon.
Why aren’t there 24 unique FPS of CG animation in Knights of Sidonia?
I’m watching the show at 23.97 FPS, which should give it just that “surreal” movie effect but this looks even weirder-jerkier-like watching stop motion made with a lazy director who only shot half as many shots as required.
On a tech subject, I wonder how AMD’s Freesync idea could be applied to eliminating judder in 24 FPS stuff shown on a normally-60-Hertz display.
My phone can take “8MP” stills and shoot 1920*1080p30 video. However, its vertical resolution for panorama shots is <700 pixels, making it completely useless.
I wonder how the panorama functionality on my phone works as if it just took a video and broke it into still frames and spliced them together then it should be 1080 high. Even setting the phone to maximum image quality, instead of reducing it to get 16:9, doesn’t fix the lack of vertical resolution.
After the recent updates, which make the UI look like Chrome, the web browser Waterfox randomly crashes on me. Having Bing Maps (since Google Maps is trash after the recent UI overhaul) open almost always causes it to crash.
I have been so far unable to replicate this crashing on my non-AMD computers. Given the wonky relationship between Waterfox, Intel and AMD I wonder if this could actually be the cause, though I can’t rule out a platform-independent bug in the newest FF and Waterfox code.
The Pale Moon browser seems to be immune to these crashes, however.
NOTICE: Some videos will not play here due to The Anime Network forums operating in HTTPS. Certain YouTube video uploader providers do not allow video playback within a HTTPS site. Also, some internet browsers may not display the YouTube embedded video players. If one of the videos does not play, click the ‘Watch on YouTube’ link to view it in a new tab. However, if you are unable to see the video players, click the YouTube ‘Video Link’ that I have added instead.
Services is where the revenue comes from. about time the law says if you want to get paid you are responsible for telling the person not just expecting them to come to you and ask.
How stupid do these companies that provide video, internet or phone services think their customers are to just bend over and take it when the company offers poor or no quality and constantly wants to increase prices or the company complains about all the “work” it has to do to stay in business? An honest days wage for an honest days work. That is what ALL the video service providers, internet service providers, and phone providers need to learn. Telecommunications industry has just gotten so full of itself that it needs a giant slap in the face with both laws and fines for past wrong deeds. The time for their excuses long over, and it is time they start taking responsibility and stop claiming their consumers are idiots or just full of useless opinions because they think their customers are stupid. ALL video/internet/phone related companies in NA need severe repercussions for the faulty billing methods like credit card payment failures and lack of security in poorly designed forms, lack of service, corrupt video, dropped calls, and
