Days With My Stepsister / Gimai Seikatsu

Yes.

You do know that Hindi dubs weren’t a thing until 2 years ago and English dubs have been around for 30+ years right? Also, there a tons of people outside of the United States who speak English and watch English dubs.

Doesn’t matter how long that there have been English dubs, if you’re trying to expand your customer base you might want to dub in that country’s native language

Okay? Expanding into a country is fine and good. We’re not talking about that.

There are currently more English dub fans than there are Hindi dub fans. That’s what matters because that means if Days with My Stepsister was profitable enough for a Hindi dub then it is factually also profitable enough for an English dub.

All of a sudden when it comes to Hindi, your a fan of the idea of dubbing now. The hypocrisy is priceless.

How do you know that? do you have a magical number you can give me? The population of India is almost double that of the United States. 20% of the population is a whole lot different when comparing the United States to India.

It really wasn’t. Attack on Titan , Log Horizon, Kill la Kill & Monogatari series were definitely more popular than SNAFU. Granted people did complain about the lack of a dub, but at the time it wasn’t enough for Sentai to consider it. When S2 came around, enough people made their voices heard and Sentai made it happen

You listed four series. Do you really think the fifth most popular series of a year isn’t 99% likely to get a dub? The top 5 anime of the year get dubbed like literally almost every year so you are absolutely momunentally incorrect.

Sentai dubbed Hanayamata right around the time they released Snafu sub-only. If you think Hanayamata was more popular or had better numbers than Snafu you are 1000% wrong.

Season 2 came around in 2015. Sentai didn’t dub it for fours years later. You are factually wrong. Dub fans were complaining LOUDER in 2015 about SNAFU not being dubbed than we were in 2019 when Sentai finally dubbed it. Again, I was there as a dub fan and witnessed it all.

The reason Sentai likely dubbed Snafu (and other shows) in 2019 is because they were low on funds. Snafu and other shows they didn’t dub initially were essentially their rainy day fund. They needed the money badly because they had lost a lot of money on bad simuldubs like Tsurune and Middle Manager Tonegawa that nobody watched.

I know that because we have been here for 40 years and they have been here for 2. I know that because Crunchyroll still dubs vastly more anime in English than Hindi. Why would they do more than twice as many (probably more than thrice as many) dubs in English than Hindi if Hindi dubs were more profitable. Frankly, you are the first person I’ve encountered who thinks its even possible there might be more Hindi dub fans than English ones.

Crunchyroll themselves just said Anime is more popular with Gen-Z than Beyonce is. They were referring to American fans obviously. I don’t know how popular Beyonce is in India, but I highly doubt anime became massively popular out of nowhere in India like that. That just isn’t realistic for anime to suddenly be massive there to the point of being more popular than in America. Frankly if it was that popular in India, Crunchryoll would never let us here the end of it since they are the main people pushing anime in India.

Edit: Also I’m sick of the revisionist history with AOT. That show wasn’t nearly as popular when season 1 came out and became massively popular with season 2.

Try 17th. The 4 series I listed were rated higher…

Lol. Like seriously. Lol.

“Best” anime of the year has nothing to do with most popular. It’s also just opinion.

You are honestly a joke. Reply to my questions or I am ignoring you from now on. I’ve wasted enough time on you.

Also even the 17th most popular anime of a year would get dubbed 99% of the time. Snafu was definitely top 5-10 most popular of the year.

See here’s the thing you are mistaking. Just because something is sub only, doesn’t mean it’s not profitable. It may not be profitable to dub it though. Dubbing adds Production costs over the initial licensing fee , so to make a profit (Because that’s what any business is in it for) You have to sell enough units (Home Video sales) / subscriptions to make back all your licensing fees and your home video production costs. adding a dub significantly increases the number of units that need to be sold to break even / make a profit. Sometimes it’s more desirable to release it sub only so you can make back your production costs and make profit on it. Maybe Sentai at the time didn’t feel that they would make the production costs back if they were to dub it back then.

Sure they all do, I felt that CR should have kept the Funimation label for their Home Video Releases and Kept the Right Stuf Branding for the Retail Merchandise division. Keeping them Separate would prevent one section underperforming to bring the whole house of cards down.

While Aniplex themselves hasn’t,My Dress Up Darling is technically an Aniplex Title

I actually like Good Dubs, never said I didn’t like Dubs. (Best dub on Hidive is Infinite Stratos S1, Best dub on CR is The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic) You didn’t like what you hear and personally attack me? We’ll just agree to disagree then, Have a Nice Day.

Blockquote
Just because something is sub only, doesn’t mean it’s not profitable.

Well, there you have it. That is literally what I’ve been saying, and what you have been arguing against, this entire time.

Sentai dubbed Snafu in 2019 because they knew it would make money and they needed money. Sentai in 2014-15 was doing much better and didn’t need the money. That’s all. A SNAFU dub was always profitable.

My Dress Up Darling was a Funimation dub. It was an Aniplex of Japan title, not an Aniplex of America one. I apologize for not being more specific. Aniplex of America are the ones that do dubs though, so I figured I didn’t need to specify. Also, Funimation was dubbing every single Aniplex of America show no matter what at the time Dress-Up Darling came out. They dubbed every Aniplex show from Spring 2020 until the merger with Crunchyroll in March 2022.

As far as Infinite Stratos, I am a big Laura Bodewig fan myself. However, Tatenashi is still best girl.

I am sorry for insulting you. I was answering everything you asked and you basically ignored everything I said over and over. It was getting frustrating. Frankly many of your comments came off as being incredibly anti-dub and elitist to me. Maybe you are not but that is how it appeared. I have never seen someone so feverishly argue that really popular anime shouldn’t get dubbed before. Consider it from my point of view, I ONLY watch dubs, and here you are saying that very few shows should get dubbed. I mean, you basically started our discussion by saying only mainstream shows like DBZ or AOT should get dubbed. Or maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say, that’s what it seemed like. I mean, if even Takamine and Boy-Girl Friendship shouldn’t get dubbed, according to you, then you are talking about basically 90% percent of anime “shouldn’t” get dubbed because they are clearly more popular than 90% of all anime. Both of those shows have been in AniList (the site I prefer to use) top 10 most popular shows of the season for basically the whole season. So it comes across as you saying only a few shows should ever be dubbed. Which is nuts because Crunchyroll dubs 18-22 shows every season.

Anyway I suspect we probably misunderstand each other a bit, but it is fine. I am at least happy that you finally answered a few of my questions. I think perhaps me and you are just incompatible people who will likely not get along, but I don’t see much need to continue arguing. Thank you for wishing me a good day, by the way. It is appreciated.
