Goku’s New Super Saiyan God Form Revealed for DBZ: Resurrection ‘F’ Film
posted on 2015-04-09 07:40 EDT
Goku to use new form against Golden Frieza in film opening on April 18

This year’s 20th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday that Goku will enter a new Super Saiyan God form in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ (Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F) film. The announcement also reveals that Goku will use the “Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan” (Super Saiyan God SS) form to fight Frieza’s new golden form.

In the new form, Goku’s hair stands on end just like with Super Saiyan 1 or 2, but his hair turns blue and looks like a blue flame.

Goku originally entered into the Super Saiyan God form in the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film, but in that form his hair became red.

Additionally, the same issue of Weekly Shonen Jump is revealing that Goku’s new form will be playable in the Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden Nintendo 3DS game. Those who see the film or who use the a code with the June issue of V Jump will get early access to a demo version of the game, and the demo will include Goku’s new form. The game ships in Japan on June 11.

In commemoration of the new film, Fuji TV will screen the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film on April 17 at 9:00 p.m. Additionally, theaters in 11 cities in Japan are rescreening the film until April 17.

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ will premiere in both 2D and 3D in theaters across Japan on April 18, although advance screenings will be held before then. The film will also be the first Japanese film to open in 3D IMAX Digital Theaters.

Funimation will host the North American premiere on April 11 in Los Angeles. The company then plans to release the film in more theaters with an English dub this summer.

Toriyama said in an interview in November that the ‘F’ in the film’s title stands for “Frieza,” who will be revived in the film. Toriyama noted that he thought of the title while listening to “F” by rock band Maximum The Hormone, whom he came to know personally through a friend. The song itself features Frieza as a motif, and will be used as a “battle song” during one of the battle scenes in the film. The band originally released the song as its eighth single in July 2008.

Toriyama is personally credited with the original concept, screenplay, and character designs of the new movie. Dragon Ball Z animation director Tadayoshi Yamamuro is directing the new movie. Pop idol group Momoiro Clover Z (Sailor Moon Crystal, Bodacious Space Pirates) is performing the film’s theme song, as well as voicing roles in the movie, playing “angels” of hell that reside where the protagonist Son Goku’s enemy Frieza has been imprisoned.

With all the money that DBZ has made over the years, why can’t they afford to not use CG in this? Without the hand-drawn art and animation from the 90s show, it isn’t DBZ.

…I’d forgotten what the Japanese dub of DBZ was like. Whoa. I don’t like the Funimation in-house dub of DBZ at all but hearing the alternative again (which I’ll have to work on repressing) has given me a greater appreciation for it.

Dragon Ball Gets 1st New TV Anime in 18 Years in July

Dragon Ball Super set after Majin Buu saga with foe stronger than Buu, Freeza teased

Dragon Ball Super, a brand new television anime inspired by Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga, will premiere on Fuji TV and other channels in July on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. This will be the first new Dragon Ball television series since Dragon Ball GT, which aired from 1996 to 1997.

The story of the anime is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when the Earth has become peaceful once again. The voice of Goku, Gohan, and Goten, Masako Nozawa commented on the new anime, saying, “We’ve always used the word ‘chō’ (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”

Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki commented on the new series as well, saying, “As I read the plot [of the series] I’ve already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear…”

Toriyama is credited as the original creator, as well as for “original story & character concepts.” Toei Animation’s Kimitoshi Chioka (Hakaba Kitarō, Kamisama Kazoku) is the series director, and Naoko Sagawa (Yomiko Advertising, Inc.) and Atsushi Kido (Toei Animation) join Nozaki as producers. Kido entered Toei just as the company was animating the Dragon Ball Z anime’s Freeza arc.

A new film taking place after the Majin Buu Saga, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ (key visual seen right,) premiered in Japan earlier this month. The film will eventually screen in 74 countries worldwide. Funimation hosted the North American premiere of the film on April 11 in Los Angeles. The company plans to release the film in more theaters with an English dub this summer.

New Dragon Ball Z’s Song Recorded in English by Momoiro Clover Z Idols

1st English song for idols who appeared in cosplay at new TV anime’s unveiling

The pop idol group Momoiro Clover Z confirmed on Tuesday that they recorded an English version of “‘Z’ no Chikai” (The Oath of “Z”), the ending theme song for this year’s Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ film. The idols made the announcement in full Dragon Ball cosplay during a stage greeting, held at a Tokyo screening of the film to thank fans for the film’s success.

The group’s leader Kanako Momota admitted that before they could sing the English version, the English lyrics were transliterated into phonetic Japanese characters (katakana) so they could pronounce the words. Nevertheless, she said that they sang the English version with everything they had. She previously said that she hoped the song will bring energy to a lot of people like a “reverse genki dama (spirit bomb).”

During the same stage greeting, Momoiro Clover Z announced Dragon Ball Super, a new television anime premiering this July. Original manga creator Akira Toriyama is drafting the original story and character concepts for this anime.

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ premiered on 658 screens in both 2D and 3D in theaters across Japan on April 18, although advance screenings were held before then. The film is the first Japanese film to open in 3D IMAX Digital Theaters.

Momoiro Clover Z also voiced roles in the movie, playing “angels” of hell that reside where the protagonist Son Goku’s enemy Freeza has been imprisoned. Previously, they sang theme songs for Sailor Moon Crystal and Bodacious Space Pirates.
