That’s just about the best guess I could come up with as well.
At first I though his family was a bunch of shinobi, with the “arrow letters”.
Then with all the alien stuff in the OP I thought they might that too.
Now, with all the “dog” references in ep. 04, I’m leaning towards a family of shape shifters or dog deities.
So, mom spilled the beans and the family isn’t human. And Kobeni gets a flash of memory. But I laughed when Benio thought they were fairies. Still, Shirayuki was a little vague as to what they really are. “Demons, monsters, ogres, spirits” covers a wide range. But thinking of this, the title makes me laugh now. Still, it’s sad to know that these spirits are losing their homes and that their population is decreasing.
Interesting that Shirayuki tells Kobeni that Hakuya gave Kobeni half his power to save her life. She feels that explains Kobeni’s health problems, being that the power given to her isn’t human. Shirayuki doesn’t stay long, which is a shame. She’s so cute! And she has such a sweet tooth too. A few parting words to Kobeni explains why Hakuya rubs her head. That was really very touching!
I wonder if Kobeni might feel a bit obligated to marry Hakuya now that she knows more of the facts. He did save her life after all. But I also don’t think Hakuya would accept her under those circumstances. Still, Kobeni can’t quite believe the truth and seems a little disappointed when Hakuya won’t transform for her. But she does start comparing him to a dog. LOL
I’m glad Kobeni finally gave Hakuya his chocolates. That took forever, but made Hakuya very happy!
