FLCL / Fooly Cooly / Furi Kuri

Yeah, same here. But there are only a few titles I really want, and I don’t expect Funi to announce any of them. But I could be wrong, you never know.

The whining on many forums is rather entertaining though

What are those? Tell me in PM.

I think you should know the BIG one. I don’t keep too quiet about it.

I agree with you completely, I must have watched this several times and each time I was like… WTF? I just don’t get it. Don’t get Excel Saga either (I mean, I get it, but I don’t get why everyone likes it).

I only mentioned Excel Saga because, from what I’ve seen lurking ANN’s board, you either like FLCL and hate Excel Saga or hate FLCL and like Excel Saga.

I was hoping for more LA announcements. Funi’s Twitter page said the last two days will be anime titles.

Yay for getting FLCL for a reasonable price!

Glad to see it being kept available as it is one my favorite anime. The only anime I ever thought was worth buying two episode disks of. Also bought the soundtrack CD.

Yes…Yes I have. The best thing ever created by mankind can now be back in print. This was full of win! Funi rules the day  Even though I already have the show of course, I’ll double dip for this baby. Anyone willing to save this, deserves some money from me. I originally bought this as it was coming. Actually I bought the first volume, my mom bought me the other two, because I had NO money. I didn’t even have to ask her, she was nice enough to offer when I was in the store  .

Also why did you guys want more live action stuff? Eww…

The hate/dislike for this one on these forums really hurts me. I don’t see how you can hate this one guys. Also I didn’t think Excel Saga was bad. It’s not anything amazing, but it’s a cool little show. But REALLY REALLY shallow. I see no comparison in the shows, execpt maybe they are both very fast paced. FLCL on the other hand is incredbly deep, imaginitively told, perfectly animated, has a godly soundtrack, and is the best coming of age story ever told. This series manages to convey what teenage boys feel/think/are etc. within 6 episodes, where whole TV shows miss the mark completely. But it’s much more then that too, it refferences tons of other Ganiax shows, it has many interesting things hidden beneath the surface, it has some of the coolest and most interesting characters in all of anime, and it’s down right hilarious at times. This series is the best thing mankind has ever created. It’s a shame though, because many will try and make something better, but they can’t. It’s not their fault either. It’s just FLCL is so good, no one can hope to outdo it. I rank FLCL above the invention of the airplane, the automobile, typewriter, computer, and printing press. Hell even the wheel. Guess it’s not fair to rank it with the invention of animation, since it wouldn’t exists without that, but still…

FLCL I watched a few times. It was okay, but not something I ever wanted to buy, unless it was cheap. Which it will be, eventually, unless Funi’s learned to cut back production on this stuff too.

I’m being blunt about this.

It bored me. I didn’t like Naota. I didn’t like Mamami. I never laughed out loud.

It didn’t make any sense, no matter how many times I watched it, I never saw a point to it. So many people say it is a coming of age story, but I just don’t see it.

The best part about the series was the music - can’t deny that was some good guitar work.

It makes perfect sense man. It’s so simple really, the story could be told in a few paragraphs. I can’t imagine anything simpler. It’s not like Lain or anything. I can’t see how this is confuseing. But I watched it so many times it feels completely sane to me. Really I lost track at how many times I’ve seen this. But every time I notice something new.

Read this review. It explains the story quite nicely. Although I’d rank it MUCH higher. 10/10 for everything :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: .

Ok, I don’t remember if I said the ā€˜H’ word or not, I hope I didn’t, I just meant that I didn’t ā€˜get’ it. Still don’t.

And perhaps the second sentence above is why… teenage boys… since I’m not and never was… oh bother. Never mind. Still don’t get it.

Teenage grils could relate somewhat to it too. It’s not at all alienating. But this really works well at getting into the teenage boys mind  . But It’s just a story about growing up guys, and everyone has done that. While guys may get more out of it, I think anyone could understand it.

That pretty much sums it up as I see it.

Though I have to disagree with this.
The soundtrack to this was just atrocious to me. Quite possibly the furthest thing from my musical tastes as any anime could probably get.

Pretty good review. But I’m afraid I still don’t see it. One thing that I saw a few times was ā€œhides the truth.ā€ To be honest, I do not care for that in an anime. I watch to be entertained and to have fun, not to gain some higher understanding of something.

What can I say? I never ā€œconnectedā€ with Naota. I’d say we had very different experiences as teenagers, and that’s before the alien chick showed up at his door  And I was even watching this when I was an adolescent, so if I didn’t get it then, I’d say my chances are not so good now. I’d need to watch it one more time (as much as I don’t want to) to point out more specifically why I didn’t like it.

If you want to watch shallow and popcorn stuff that’s cool. But every form of media has that. One of the things that attracted me to anime in the first place was shows that were deep like FLCL. Only in anime are there shows like that. Shows that were smart, clever, and have some great meanings behind them. Crazy, out of this world, creative, and different. Yup…only in anime. Yes I like to be enterained, but that’s only part of it.

Another thing I remembered hating was the random monsters. I remember thinking ā€œwhy is this monster here, I don’t see the point.ā€ It drove me nuts.

I remember disliking Mamami also. IIRC, she is a high school dropout? I hold people like that in low regard. Her voice was annoying, too.

Now I actually want to see it again, so I can bring a better discussion to the table

Well I have a feeling that your opinion won’t change much on this one. Ganna have to chalk up to different tastes man. But out of all the anime I’ve seen, nothing has blown me away like this. It’s a unique show.

I like FLCL it was one of those anime that made me feel happy about my life. IF it true that there not going to old voice actor, I wonder why? I like the old story, and I was hope for an season 2.

I would really like that going into space and fighting the Pirate king.
