Does it help to picture it being spoken by Yoda from Star Wars?
This was my favorite episode yet, by far, with the return home sparking some touching and funny moments. This was the first episode where the comedy did not fall flat for me either. For all the good of this episode though, as with the previous episodes it felt so rushed, especially with the first segment of the episode with the Doctor… Good episode, especially in comparison to the previous ones.

I’ve been wondering about this for awhile now, since you usually put a negative spin on your opinion of this series.
What exactly is it that you don’t like about FMA?
FMA I really did not have a huge problem with. I’d never want to watch it again ,but no major issues.
FMA B so far is just a mashed up rehash of the first part of FMA. From what Slowhand is telling me after these rehashes of the what happened in the first series then I should know how I truly feel. Plus I never liked my cartoons on that late at night. FMA B really though lacks something. Characters by this point in the first one were at least likable. Now its just such a mash of two or more episodes its just wow these characters are so 1 dimensional. I’m wondering how they will handle the library now if they will just go get the book or will they have a whole episode to it. Not a fan of mashing ,but I guess this is what you get with these things.
The baby scarred and scared PP.

And since I’ve been keeping up with the sub, I can agree with this.
Though I do agree with you, and it bugged the hell out of me when I first started on this series, that the first portion of it seriously lacks any true character developement.
This episode was the better of the ones so far ,but still to much mashing going on and the comedy aspect was to overblown. I still am calling sucks for the time being though. Hugh’s belt knife was a nice little detailed touch. Also noticed in this episode Lust’s design is a little more sexualized well she at least got more of a street walker make-up job going on.
I rather enjoyed this last episode. The first half was so rushed though, the rushed nature really feels so omnipresent and compounding every time, but as the episode went on I thought it got rather entertaining. Can’t wait to see the next episode. I still feel Brotherhood’s biggest problem so far is, it pales in comparison to the original in terms of the pacing - creates a rushed feeling and lack of characterization.
I feel these first few episodes are rushed too, but I know we have finally reached the point where the two shows diverge and I can’t wait to truely see the new stuff coming in the next few weeks. The characters do seem flat and I almost feel like I am watching a puppet show of FMA. The introduction of each new character is “boom”, take center stage, shine a spotlight, pose and then disappear. All the feeling I have for these chars are based on the first FMA. I seriously hope the pacing slows down with the new stuff, so when someone dies I feel for the character, cause I did not feel it for Mother or Nina/chimera in Brotherhood.
I finally got to see another episode this week. It still has that “are they on crack or something” pacing, even when they spend all that time studying notes in the library. But I do suspect things will change once they get into the meat of it, I mean unless you lived under a rock you saw the first 11 episodes 18 times already, so I would think they’re purposely rushed.
Tonight’s episode wasn’t too bad. More recap of the first show, but still enjoyable.
There was one really funny line - “Major Armstrong is going to take his shirt off and yell at us again!”
Well, the drugs have worn off, things seemed to slow way down for this one. More recap, yes, but done differently.
I’m still enjoying the show.
One funny line tonight that really got me -
When Hughes teases Ed about having “a pretty blonde girl in your room to service you” Just had to feel sorry for Winry!
Hughes daughter is cute as always. Like that Winry was smarter then the sergeant. She used a heavy wrench to hit Al with instead of her hand.
Ep. 10
Hughes death is still rough. Elicia reaction at the funeral still brings tears to my eyes.
Yes, I’m rather glad this version sort of glosses over it faster than the original show.
Really though we’re still more or less in recap mode even though certain details and things are different.
So because AS VOD and TAN VOD are on the same channel on TWC and it defaults to the alphabetical first one when you go to the channel, I happened to discover that FMA: Brotherhood has been added to AS’s VOD. Which let me see the first episode, that I missed previously. (I’m not sure how often they update it, it seems like it’s biweekly instead of weekly). I should be able to catch the others I’ve missed and see them in a more sober state of mind, too.
Anyhow, the first episode is quite good, and looked almost movie-like in the animation quality at times. The Ice Alchemist is a short-lived new character. It sets the tone, darker and more ominous than the original. The way the action flows in this you almost need to be able to watch several episodes at a time, though.
