GATE: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri

Episode 3 –

Spoiler

Of course the pissed off fire dragon was going to show up! And of course mere bullets would not harm it. But the rescued elf wakes up in time to tell them that the weak point is the dragon’s eyes. It’s a miss, but the “Gothic Lolita” jumped in to give them a hand. The dragon isn’t killed, but they do drive it off. I suppose it is even more pissed off now and will turn up again very soon.

But for now, everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Many of the evacuating villagers were lost in the dragon’s initial attack though and it’s time to bury the dead and grieve. The village elder thanks the soldiers and leaves with the remaining survivors. Itami is still concerned for them, but wishes them well. However, a few survivors have chosen to stay with the soldiers. But what is Itami supposed to do with them?

Episode 3 - Spoiler

You just never know what you’ll encounter while out on duty.

A wild little girl appears and an innuendo scene ensues

Girl: I’d like to know what it’s like to ride it too.
Youji: Hey! it’s a tight fit.
Youji: Don’t touch my pistol.
Girl: Hmmm?

Crazy awkwardness appears

That village leader in ep 3 was pretty harsh. So much for “it takes a village”

Dunno what the Japanese were aiming for with the voice acting for the goth loli but yeah, lascivious loli was wonky.

Though why’d he leave the magicians behind? They seem like they could be useful

That fort design had far too many triangles in it, it achieved triangle-ception. It reminded me of the bit about triangle-mad Pythagoras from Red Dwarf

I’m not sure what walls of triangles are going to do against dragon fire, or why they’re needed when the enemy so far was just the “Roman” legion, but it looks cool and some cement maker in Japan must have made a mint lol.

BTW, what was up with the subtitles in ep 4? I think something was lost in translation

Episode 4 –

Spoiler

While rumors fly elsewhere about the men in green that drove off a fire dragon, the remaining survivors arrive at the base – and Itami get reprimanded for it. Once permission is given for the “refugees” to stay, Itami is put in charge of them. Once formal introductions are made, the refugees get a bit of culture shock. They are amazed by certain things, but they also begin to learn more about their saviors.

Meanwhile, in the other world, politics rule as per usual. Not only are plans being made to exploit the Special Region, but other countries may fight Japan for access to the gate. The Prime Minister of Japan has his hands full controlling the media as well. And the refugees soon learn that there is another vast world beyond the gate.

In her mission to learn about the enemy, Princess Pina is bitterly told that the real enemy was the Empire. Can she believe such things of her father? She is told to go to Arnus Hill and investigate the invaders with her own eyes. The princess will most likely end up doing just that, but for now, her destination is Italica.

Even though she saw her father die before her eyes, Chuka believes that he is still alive. This is getting to be a problem. Chuka is also worried about how to eventually provide for herself, since she never had to before. Lelei got permission from the army to take as many of the winged dragon scales off the bodies of the creatures from the initial battle as she wanted. Apparently, the scales are worth a lot on this world, so the girls need not worry about their future. Itami is looking forward to seeing how the scales are traded, and so everyone is off on another adventure – to Italica!

Episode 5 –

Spoiler

Well, the Third Imperial Princess, Pina Co Lada finally gets to meet the men in green! Unfortunately, she needs their help to defend Italica for the rightful ruler, the ten year old countess of Formar, Myui. Itami has no choice but to agree. And it seems that the princess doesn’t quite trust the men in green, but what choice does she have at the moment – she needs all the help she can get!

Not only is Itami in trouble with command for staying to fight, but he also knows that his team is being used as a decoy. His mission is to protect the south gate and Rory questions why he would help his enemy. Itami wants to protect the townspeople, but he also wants to befriend the princess, thinking that it’s better to be friends than enemies. Rory is amused by this, but I think she has the wrong idea. LOL In any case, she is ready for a good fight!

The bandit army does attack that night, but they aim for the east gate instead of the south one. This was not what the princess had in mind and the gate is quickly taken by the enemy and the town is invaded. The men of the town are ready to fight and attack the enemy - against the orders of the princess. They are about to be slaughtered. Will Pina call for Itami? Or will Itami go to help without waiting for her call?

Spoiler

Italica isn’t doing well against the enemy and it looks like Itami may have done a bit of fibbing. He called in reinforcements, saying that help was asked for, but didn’t Pina only ask for help from his immediate group, so she could use them as decoys? LOL Itami always manages to turn things around!

Poor Rory has her own problems. It seems that the souls of the slain during this battle are being sent to the god Emloy through her body. Let’s just says that it’s a very pleasurable experience for her. Lelei tells Itami that the only way to help her is to let her fight. Meanwhile, Pina watches the battle, helpless, as civilians are being slaughtered, left and right. She is advised to order an evacuation of the entire city.

Itami decides to join the fight and once Rory is told, she takes off on her own. I get the feeling that the girl can handle the entire enemy force all by herself! Itami and the others take the jeep and Itami instructs the coming reinforcements where the fighting is. I laughed when I saw the helicopters coming – it was a scene straight out of “Apocalypse Now”!!

Rory reaches the enemy first and greets them with laughter. She is really going to enjoy this! However, everyone is stunned into silence when the helicopters arrive right on top of Rory’s first attack. Amazing! I can only imagine what these people think at seeing a helicopter for the first time. Desperate men try to attack with arrows against a rain of death from above, and I can foresee the incredible stories that will spread from this battle.

Laughing the entire time, Rory finally gets to have her fun. And it looks like Kuribayashi is just as talented as Rory’s back-up. The battle is a short one since the helicopters take care of the rest. Pina is amazed at the “iron pegasus” that can bring “absolute violence” and she doesn’t seem to like it, since it goes against everything a warrior stands for.

The battle is quickly over and the enemy is completely wiped out. All that’s left to do is help the injured survivors and gather up any remaining enemy. The soldiers are thanked by the civilians for saving them. As the helicopters leave, Itami is still holding Rory. He has his hand on her breast and Rory gives him a great big smile before giving him a good slap! His scream said it all. LOL Don’t mess with an apostle of Emloy!!! And the next time you see Itami, he’s sporting a beautiful black eye!

In the aftermath, the soldiers help the civilians clean up and the dead are mourned. Pina is congratulated on her victory, but she corrects her subordinates by telling them that the true victory belonged to Rory and the SDF – and the SDF are still their enemies. Pina feels now that she was in the wrong to ask Itami for help. Now she knows how dangerous they really are and how defenseless her people would be against them. They would actually welcome this enemy with open arms! Even Pina admits she would welcome them as well.

Itami stands before the countess to receive “compensation”. He is offered safety and payment of his expenses, as well as trading rights. However, Italica will keep the prisoners and will determine their fate. Lelei translates that they understand the need for labor to rebuild the city, but they want the prisoners treated “humanely”. Of course, she has to explain what that word means and it isn’t taken well, but finally agreed to. Next is the military withdrawal and the treaty period. Agreed. Done deal!

Afterwards, Pina is amazed that they got off so lightly. Her knight tells her that the victors gained practically nothing. Pina wonders if her negotiator used some kind of magic on Itami. Later, per the agreement, Itami does take several of the prisoners and chooses which ones to take. Funny that Itami chose only women and claimed that it was just a coincidence! In fact he claimed it several times! LOL

The rest of the army leaves the city and the girls finally get to trade their dragon scales. The scales are worth a lot of money and Lelei herself is a terrific negotiator and even manages to buy some market information. The return trip has the girls sleeping in the back of the jeep and Itami himself dozing off. But then Kurata slams on the brakes. What now?

There is smoke in the distance. Taking a good look through their binoculars, Kurata says he can see what is causing it. He sees a tiara and blonde hair in ringlets. Itami immediately perks up. Kurata sees a beautiful girl in boy’s clothes followed by “several hot chicks”. Itami sees the standard they carry – it’s a rose! That means that these girls are Pina’s knights. Itami and Kurata are impressed. The knights ride up to the jeeps and take offense when they realize that these are the men from the other world.

Itami gets out and approaches what seems to be the commander. He is held at sword point and told to surrender. Itami yells for his men to hold their fire and tells them to escape. They do so, leaving Itami behind. Itami is held at sword point again by the beautiful girls. What will happen next? Can’t wait to see!

Episode 7 –

Spoiler

A really beat up Itami is taken to Princess Pina, and she is very angry with her knights. This means Pina has violated the treaty the same day it was signed – there goes her honor! And this incident could bring the wrath of the SDF upon them. They could never withstand an attack from them! Can she lower herself to apologize?

Itami’s group is trying to find a way to rescue him, but the news comes out that he’s a Ranger! Really? Itami? This bit of news shocks the heck out of Kuribayashi! Once she gets over it, the group and the three girls move in towards Italica on foot, in the dark.

Rory, Lelei, and Chuka walk right into the city, past the guards. Once inside the gate, Chuka puts all of the guards to sleep, before signaling Itami’s team. Meanwhile, Itami awakens in bed – to a group of maids! Is this heaven or what? No, it’s only Countess Formar’s mansion. Itami is very confused. He is informed that he is being treated well under Pina’a orders and that her knights have been punished for taking him prisoner. Funny that the maids are okay with him destroying the city in retaliation as long as he doesn’t harm the countess, but Itami assures them that he wouldn’t do that.

Bonus! As Itami recovers, the four maids are his to serve him in any way he wants. Itami is one happy fellow! But Itami’s team is still coming to rescue the guy that probably doesn’t want to be rescued at this point. LOL And the bunny maid hears them coming! The head maid says that it’s most likely Itami’s friends, but if it isn’t then she should “deal with them in the usual way”. Itami is stunned as two of the maids leave the room. Combat maids? Oh, wow!

The bunny maid is Mamina, a warrior and the cat maid is Persia, one of the cat people. The two maids left with him are Aurea, a medusa, and Mome, a human. It’s explained that the previous count had a personal taste for nonhuman staff and Itami says the count may have been someone that he’d get along with. LOL Medusa mentions that Itami even has the same scent as the count.

Mamina and Persia meet up with Itami’s team and bring them to Itami, who is sitting up in bed, being fed by Mome and washed by Aurea. The team rushes into the room with their guns at the ready. Awkward!! LOL And Pina is reprimanding her knights, Bozes and Panache. As Pina explains what could have happened, she orders Bozes to give her body to Itami by way of apology. Bozes has been well trained and promises to do this for the honor of Pina and the Empire!

Meanwhile, Kurata seems enchanted by the cat maid and it looks like he’s trying to pick her up. Persia is amused, and Mamina chats with Kuribayashi, impressed with her combat skills to the point of love. Lelei is curious about Medusa and her hair snakes, and Mome asks Chuka about her other world clothes. The head maid is just happy to be in Rory’s presence once again, and goes on and on about Emloy, much to Rory’s discomfort. Itami is pleased that everyone is getting along so well.

Enter Bozes, in a sexy dress, with the order to use her body to get everyone to pretend this abduction incident never happened. Tears fill her eyes as she opens the door to Itami’s room. Shock fills her as she walks in on a group picture. LOL The stunned and confused Bozes just stands there, watching everyone talking and getting along. Then anger fills her as she is ignored. She walks up to Itami and slaps him, producing another wonderful scream from him, and when he’s seen next, Itami has a big red handprint on his face. LOL

The group stands before the princess and Bozes admits her guilt in hitting Itami. Pina just collapses in a panic, certain Italica is doomed. Itami’s men announce that they are taking their captain back and that Pina can deal with her own situation. Lelei translates and that just makes Pina more worried. She invites them to breakfast where she hopes to talk things out. But Itami has to appear before the National Diet and doesn’t have time. Lelei translates that Itami has to report to his Senate and must go immediately. Pina just panics more, fearing disaster. Her resolution? Pina will go with them back to Arnus! She wishes to formally apologize in person to Itami’s superiors for violating the treaty.

The group gets ready to leave, and Bozes will accompany Pina. I bet that Kurata would rather have the maids go with them! LOL He promises to visit Persia again soon. Itami gets permission to bring Pina back with him and they leave. Pina and Bozes get to experience riding in a jeep and are amazed at how quickly they reach Arnus. Pina also gets to witness the soldiers at combat training. She’s impressed by the guns and thinks it’s magic until Lelei explains that it’s only a weapon – powered by magic of course. LOL But Pina now knows why the Imperial army lost, especially when she sees the “Iron Elephants” for the first time, which are really just tanks. She realizes that the Empire will never win against this magical army.

Itami runs off and Lelei is left to take Pina to the general. He’s curious about her visit and she explains her apology. The general feels that it was basically a miscommunication from reading the report. Pina is ashamed. The general treats Pina kindly and says that they can rethink the treaty if it’s going to cause her problems. Thinking the worst, Pina panics and tells him that the treaty is fine as is. Then Pina is asked if Itami did anything to insult Bozes and incite her to violence. Lelei explains that the soldiers would like a complete explanation of what happened. But seeing how terrified the girls are over this, the general leaves it alone.

Chuka is told that the SDF would like her to go through the gate to the other world to speak as a representative of her world. Itami tells her they will only be gone for two nights. Lelei will be going too, as a translator. Before Chuka can agree, Rory interrupts. She wants to go too! How can Itami even think of leaving her behind? While Itami tries to process that, Kato the sage interrupts. He wants to go too! Oh heck, let’s just take everyone – Pina and Bozes included! And Itami is ordered to show them a good time. This was a great episode with a lot of funny misconceptions, so I can’t wait to see what happens in Japan!
