Plot Summary: Ban Mido and Ginji Amano are a recovery duo infamously known as “GetBackers.” Ban possesses two special powers: the “Snake Bite” (his hands have a gripping power of 200kg) and the “Evil Eye” (anyone who looks into his eyes will be locked into a powerful and nightmarish hallucination). Ginji, on the other hand, has the ability to generate thousands of volts of electricity from his body. Together, they run a freelance business of recovering anything lost or stolen from a client - and they claim a 100% success rate at their job.
It’s also now back on Anime Network VOD as I mentioned in the Get Backers story premiere on my blog.
Even though I already own the DVDs I could not help but watch it on VOD as soon as I saw it last Wed. night. Great series with a lot of something for everyone, action, drama, comedy… it has it all and truly a wonderful cast.
We may have a group viewing of this series in the near future since Coffee just got the DVDs and I’ve been watching to watch it again, and now that it’s back on VOD and all available on the Online Player… there’s more opportunity for others to check out this great series.
Well this looked kind of good to me, and I hear good things about it from people I trust on another site. I may check it out since it’s on VOD now for free too. I got nothing to lose. When I get some free time I’ll give it a watch.
A good show indeed, Ginji is one of my favorite characters in all of anime. Only had a couple of complaints about this show, for the most part very good (including the music!)
I finished the first season of this before Christmas, and got season 2 as a gift. Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to watch the second one yet. My back log just keeps growing…
I normally don’t like shonen, but this one is an exception. The action and stories are well paced, and it doesn’t drag on and on, like some series. There are no four episode arcs of internal dialogue, while Ginji prepares his ultimate attack…lol.
Ok well I watched the first episode today, since it’s up on TAN VOD. It’s alright, not the best thing I ever saw, but I did enjoy it. The music was spot on, although I’m not the bigest fan of the opening, the closing theme, and other songs are all very well done.
First episode spoiler (is that possible lol?)
I don’t like the whole “I have lightning coming out of my fingers” thing too much in this show. At least the way it’s been handled so far is disappointing. Other then that I think I like this. The other guys power is pretty cool, and the girl is cool too. I’ll keep watching…
Yep Get Backer’s themes really grow on you over time, just like the series.
This series starts to bloom later on in the teens. This is a series with a lot of development, and given it’s a long series it takes time to see all the facets this series has to offer.
Oh and the voice actor for Ban will change if I remember correctly. I think it is around the 9th episode. The second guy (I forgot his name) is MUCH better.
Come on people, it’s on VOD and the Online Player… no one’s talking about it?
Coffee, shame on you, saw your other post in the other forum. lol No comments here after I got you to get GetBackers and all?
What kind of schedule are you watching this at… 1-2 DVD a week? I want in! I still need to start my Online Player watching of other shows (have not had time to watch anything since the new launch), yeah I’ve been that busy! :S
Gonna be starting on Mahoromatic Something more Beautiful and Rune Soldier hopefully on sunday… Marathon coming up. Hopefully. (Puts up Away for Weekend Notice in front of the VOD forum/email door) lol

You sneeky little bastage!
I was going to post after I saw DVD 2 and finished up the extras on DVD 1.
I haven’t brought it up to you since I knew you were busy.
I was just going to blow through it, however, I can probably knock it down to 2 a week unless that’s too much for you.
Hehe, I have a lot of the major forums on my daily or at least every other day rounds, just to see what people are talking about.
Actually next week is really great for me, should have a lot of time more than normal. How fast did you want to blow through it? I can adapt to your schedule. This show has a lot of great cliffhangers imo, 1 DVD a week might be hard to stick to, hehe.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it so far, like what aspects you liked and such since you seemed to really enjoy it per your other post. Cause I remember the first time I watched this series, I did not get really hooked til about the teens.

Well I’m not real good at choosing a schedule, though I am good a keeping to one, so, since you’re involved now, I’ll leave it to you to choose what would work and we’ll go from there.
I wait on my commentary about DVD 1 until I re-watch it with the new schedule though.
I just finished DVD 1 last night (need to watch the cool video interviews/commentary tracks later today, this series has some really good extras for English/ADV production fans). I mean you/others who were here for a while know how much I enjoyed this series (it’s one of my favorite ADV titles, period), but man episodes 3-5 especially had me smiling the entire time… so fun.
As far as schedule you said you wanted to blow through it? I can do up to 2-3 DVDs per day this week (minus the days you might need off for your VOD stuff). Does that work for you or is it too much? If it is…
So how about:
Last night: Vol 1
Sunday: Vol 1-3 (or 1-2 if you’re re-watching vol 1)
Monday: Vol 3-5 (or 3-4 if you’re rewatching vol 1) or if you have time to go through all 5 by tomorrow night?
Rest of the week To Be Determined per you letting me know which days you want off.
If that’s too much we can reduce it to 1 DVD a day?
We really need a PM system… lol, and yeah… it’s coming.
I can do 3-4 a day if I’m skipping extras & OP/ED, but seeing as how this series has a lot of extras (at least the first 5 or so), I’d probably have to knock it down to 2 a day to start with.
I can probably get all 5 done by tomorrow night though, so that schedule would work.
My days off basically haven’t changed, Wed & Thus (recently early Fri because of all the reading I’ve been having to do) for VOD stuff.

Yeah, I just finished re-watching DVD 1.
What I am really enjoying about this series is the comedy, being a comedy fan, that’s not too surprising though.
Episode 3-5 were just awesome, especially Akabane.
Another thing I really like about this series is the mid-episode eyecatches.
The artwork for the characters is really well done and I like the way the made the Japanese names look.
Finished up DVDs 2 & 3
Didn’t watch the extras, but I’ll be going back to them later.
I’m so completely hooked!
I almost couldn’t stop at DVD 3 though, as that one was just so damn awesome!
It left off without finishing off the arc it’s on, so now I can’t wait for tomorrow!
I’m a DVD behind since it took a while to watch the video interviews and commentaries for Vol 1 and 2, longer than I expected, lol. But I think it’s worth it, there’s a bit of show and production discussion that’s quite interesting. There’s one of the volumes, maybe vol 3 extras with the very hilarious Sammantha Inoe Harte guest commentary track.
The really fun thing about this series is that it’s a series of contrasts, the great buddy relationship between Ban and Ginji and they are very night and day type characters… but also with the storyline, the contrasts between the drama and the comedy. The little arc with the Vincent Van Gogh storyline was surprisingly interesting with the theme of emotional value of art vs price or authoritative value.
I love the comedy bits in Volume 2 like when Ban ran into Paul and called him something like a brickhead.
From what I remember Volume 3-5 is when I completely fell in love with the series, it’s one of the really big and exciting arcs of the whole series.
Just finished Volume 3. I forgot how great this volume was in terms of diversity, lots of action, comedy, and some drama with the backstories. Some of my favorite moments were the …
continuation of the whole Ginji and Akabane scenes, like the very last scene in the DVD where Ginji keeps trying to run away from Akabane but can’t shake him. Those scenes were LOL-worthy.
*
Also the continued back and forth between Ban and Shido with their best-friend complex, was great.
*
One of my favorite scenes was also the scene where Ban used the Jagan and the scene with the girls, him and pocky.
Another thing worth mentioning, I really enjoy Hevn’s character as a sort of relief character that’s completely different from the rest. The authoritative voice given by Ellie McBride is just perfect for the role. I think she’s one of the standout performances of the dub.
