Plot Summary: Sawa is a school girl, an orphan, and an assassin. When another orphan, a teenage boy called Oburi, is brought in to assist Sawa, the two teenage killers form a bond of sorts. As they heal each otherā€™s emotional wounds, they begin to dream of a life that would not be spent under the shadows of murder.

Plot Summary: Years after the events that transpired in Kite, Sawaā€™s whereabouts are a mystery. During this time, rumors of a new killer have begun to circulate the city. They call her the Angel of Death, an unfeeling assassin who eliminates her targets with grace and precision, leaving only a flurry of feathers as her calling card. What the public is unaware of is the fact that this notorious hitman is a actually a polite young lady named Monaka. Like her spiritual predecessor, Monaka has lost most of her family, and her fatherā€™s duty as an astronaut keeps him practically worlds apart. However, they are close despite the physical distances and Orudo promised his daughter that he would return. Until then, daily life for the timid and somewhat clumsy Monaka involves mostly school and her part time job as a waitress, but her nature completely changes once she receives an assignment.

Well I was just talking about this OVA, and was put into the mood to give it a re-watch recently, since the first episode of Noir I just watched reminded me of this so much. Perhaps Iā€™ll watch it again in a few minutes. Anyway this is an excellent OVA by one of my favorite directors, Yasuomi Umetsu . Anyone ever see it? A true classic IMO. Itā€™s incredibly dark, and entirely serious. Itā€™s also disturbing at times, and has some truly horrifying scenes. I love the ā€œNeo-noirā€ (as wikipedia calls it) style of it all, and itā€™s cynical nature is very interesting. This anime shows some of the worst of humanity, and itā€™s really not afraid to get dirty and gritty if it must. Itā€™s very depressing at times too. Still I really think this is something here, well worth a watch. Itā€™s a slow drama, but it has interesting and compelling characters (and also some interesting and truly despicable characters as well). I highly recommend it, but only for those who feel up to it. Itā€™s pretty screwed up at times, so beware. Itā€™s one of my favorite ā€œgirls with gunsā€ animes though.

(Also the 18+ versions are rated that for a reason. Only watch them if your ready for something terribleā€¦Iā€™m pretty sure the 16+ version doesnā€™t cut anything vital out. And I donā€™t own the completely uncut version, so Iā€™m not sure exactly what Iā€™m missing, but Iā€™m happy with this version)

OK so I just re-watched this last night. Itā€™s still screwed up, itā€™s still disturbing, and at times truly horrifying. I highly recommend it for those who have the guts. And you **Noir ** fans hereā€¦will eat it up IMO. They are both much alike.

You know, this is one of those titles I would recommend NOT to watch the adult version. It is plenty messed up enough to avoid the other cuts.
I liked it, and it still looks pretty crisp for animation. the shadows are what really pop. My personal fave of Umetsu was the re-imaging of Gatchaman. His look to his characters are very fresh and unique.

Yeahā€¦Iā€™m not sure I could deal with the truly uncut verson. Although I do wonder what it is Iā€™m missing. Iā€™d like to know what small things Iā€™m missing here, but I donā€™t think I could/would watch them.

A man grabs a young woman and jumps out a building. The young woman hangs onto a sign, and the man hangs on to her ankle. The sign breaks off, and the young woman uses the man as a shield and they fall to the ground, first landing on a car, which falls through the street which lands on a truck, which falls through the ground into a subway station. The sign falls through the hole and everything blows up. The young woman and drivers survive.

A flaming dead body flies through a window and lands on a dining womanā€™s table.

A young man holds an older man by the neck with a knife. His neck briefly bleeds. The two men get in a fight.

A girl shoots a young man.

We see a dead old woman. We see a bloody, dead man. We see corpses in a morgue. We see pictures hanging around a room of mutilated dead bodies.

Frightening/Intense Scenes

Both the cut and the uncut versions of this movie are very intense and frightening. The uncut version is pretty much hentai (animated porn) that shows graphic depictions of sex and violence between older men and younger females.

more than likely the uncut version just has more of the graphic sex scenes.

Reading that sounds really disgusting. But the movies really compelling. Itā€™s a very well done little story. Just kind of distubring and graphic. Itā€™s incredbly dark and gritty though. Thanks for the info tho.

the kid in the alleyway shot oburiā€¦ i really didnt see that comingā€¦ kinda sad how sawa just sat at his house with the cats waiting for him to come homeā€¦ i like the rollercoaster of a ride it took me on thoughā€¦ it was pretty intense at times but nothing i havent seen beforeā€¦

call me crazy but im looking for the most shocking anime i can find and this is probably in the top 10 listā€¦ thanks for the info on itā€¦
after reading this thread i went to the mall and found it at FYEā€¦ and it was in the hentai sectionā€¦ used and still 34.99 !!!

I found it in FYE for cheaperā€¦new. That was awhile ago, and that DVD has Mezzo Forte with it too. LoLā€¦sorry? But yeah this is pretty shocking and disturbing. I think the ā€œworst most shocking and disturbingā€ anime is Legend of the Overfiend. Bought it for my cousinā€™s boyfriend, ganna watch it with him one day. Itā€™s his favorite, but he only had the VHS and lost it years ago.

As for something new, Mnemosyne is the new big shock, gore and sex show. Funimation just released that (ganna buy it asap, looks GREAT). Before that was Black Lagoon and Speed Grapherā€¦but theyā€™re kinda tame. Before that I can only really think of Gantz and Elfen Lied, both released couple years ago. Those are some serious stuff though (but I HATED Elfen Lied) With the move to TV series, the content has really been toned down a lot. OVAs used to be where you would go to see some screwed up stuff, but the OVA market is pretty dead today.

The bathroom scene was always incredibly horrifying for me. I really thought she may die there. The fight drags on forever and ever. Before then Sawa had no trouble killing people, she is an experienced assassin, so this makes sense. But she had to deal with too many people, and it really screwed her. When that shot went off by her ear, I really jumped out of my seat (the first time I saw this.) That whole bathroom scene is something to study though, itā€™s incredibly well choreographed. Down to the ludicrous fall from the building, which is very scary as well. Then after all thatā€¦she shot the WRONG guy! Damnā€¦

And I was caught off guard with Oburi being shot by that kid. Thatā€™s such a terrible scene. Very sad show. But at the very end you hear someone coming into Sawaā€™s apartment I thinkā€¦so who was it? I never figured that out. The kid? Is the noise just a cat? I donā€™t get itā€¦

All in all though, easily one of my favorite OVAs.

I was reminded the other day of Violence jack. I think that might be the most disturbing for gore. Beating out Overfiend/Elfin (on the violence factor)
