I saw the Clannad movie, hate the series as a result. Wait, Angel Beats was made by Key? Considering why I don’t like Clannad, I wouldn’t have thought of that.
I think for me, the more happy a character, the more I’ll hate the story for having something bad happen to them.
Technically, Angel Beats! didn’t start as a visual novel by Key like the others did, the concept was created by Jun Maeda and turned it into a mixed media collaboration with Key in general.
The anime was also written and song composed by Jun Maeda and character designed by Na-Ga, who both work for Key, so I’ve always just attributed it as a Key work.
Part of it is they’re giving you the highlights of each girls’ game route, if you played it as a game you wouldn’t get all this roller coaster over and over unless you sat and played every possible route in a short time.
