17:11:39 <bay|AB|FUNi> another simulcast
17:12:07 <bay|AB|FUNi> lupin 3rd, mine fujiko to iu onna

I am !

Though really surprised Funimation was the ones to get it. I know they got other Lupin stuff before but I assumed since they’ve not re-released them again it was not profitable. Actually figured this would be Discotek. Though at the same time Funimation simulcasting something does not mean license so it could be assumed it still could go elsewhere.

Doesn’t Funi only have license on a few of the older OVA’s? Outside of subbing and doing a bulk set release I can’t imagine those would have much value.

This is mildly different though since it’s a full season. And pretty much everything about Lupin III screams western audience(especially if they can somehow pull the Geneon dub cast). And what with Toonami possibly “coming back” (even if it is just a rebranded Adult Swim Saturday anime block), I’m sure they’ll be wanting to pump new shows into it, and something like Lupin III that handles things in an episodic matter that you don’t need context of any other part of the series to watch would probably handle itself very nicely.

Also, first episode was fant(itty)astic. Curious how delayed the Funi “simulcast” is going to be.

I mentioned this in the Jormungand & Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead simulcast thread on ANN, but I’ll post it here as well since you’re curious.

If their past history is anything to go by with these simulcasts, it’s usually 3-5 weeks after they announce it that everything starts to kick in.

Hey coffee if you post the OP and ED for this. Probably best to put NSFW and put them in spoiler tags. The full frontal Fujiko might be a little to much for some.

Good to know for the future.
I hadn’t actually planned on posting the OP or ED, at least not in the first post.
I usually just put official PVs in the first post.

Funimation Reveals Dub Cast for Fujiko Mine Anime

Dub trailer posted for Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine

The fact they got Michelle Ruff back as Fujiko is AMAZING! I’m so happy about that. She’s the best Fujiko I’ve heard so far. I’m sure she’ll hold this dub together.

Sonny Strait I used to hate as Lupin, but last time I re-watched the movies I figured I only hated him because he’s no Tony Oliver. But he’s alright. He’s a good Lupin. But Tony Oliver owned that role and will be missed.

Mike McFarland? Well…uh…he played the role before so…yeah…I don’t think there’s anyone I like as Goemon to be honest. Lex Lang was better I suppose, but he wasn’t that good. I thought he was perfect in Figure 17 though. But there’s no good Goemon. Is he directing this?

I’m still trying to figure out why they got Richard Epcar back and then cast him in a different role?? This is like what they did with Greg Ayres for the Eva movies. They got him back (he played Kaworu in the directors cut episodes) but they cast Jerry Jewell as Kaworu in re-build and Greg Ayres as Kensuke?? WHY? I don’t understand what they’re thinking at all here. It makes no sense. The best part is they’ll never explain it. Richard Epcar is an excellent actor, he needs more work, but I’m not sure hes’ suited for Zenigata. Dan Martin made that role work. He was hilarious.

Sabat as Jigen…well he was damn good. But I would have liked to see him sit this one out and let Epcar take his role back though.

The real question about this dub is will they reference Shaq?

Anyway excited about this one

Saw episode 1 of the dub. This show is pointless. The dub was pretty good though IMO.

After the reviews I read for this show I kinda expected Fujiko Mine to be more than a two-bit w*ore and actually be a rival to Lupin and not just someone he toys with because he’s bored. She’s in the office softball league while Lupin is in AAA ball. Since Fujiko Mine is supposed to be the point of the show, and she’s a “one trick pony” (as said in ep 1, though I think that she turns many more than one lol) who can’t rival Lupin in the slightest, then where is the point of the show?

Also, attaching rockets to a statue made out of what amounts to LSD and surfing it as it flies through the air because of those rockets is just ridiculous.

Got the disc today.

Audio Option are:
Japanese Mono (DTS HD-MA)
Japanese 5.1 Surround (Dolby Digital)
1992 English Dub Mono (DTS HD-MA)
2000 English Dub Stereo (LPCM)
2000 “Family Friendly” Dub Stereo (Dolby Digital)
And the commentary in mono (Dolby Digital)

The transfer is same one used on the Studio Ghibli release in Japan. It’s not perfect but for me, it’s miles better than the VAP master. Better colors and an overall more filmic look.

The audio tracks are in amazing shape from what I can tell. I’m amazed at how clear the Japanese Mono and Streamline tracks sound.

For Bonus Features: There’s an intro with David Hayter, creditless, international and US home video openings, new closing credits, trailers, interviews (Most seem to come from French release), art galleries, translation notes (Goat bills explained…), and a “brief history”.
