As I said disappointed . While I’m curious as to the cast list and to see which direction they took in casting . I just hope in the end they give us something that is worth it . It’d be at least nice to know who they have directing the dub . I still want the original dub to be present and what worries me is we end up with a case like some other shows . Where a new dub was done and they try to forget the old . In a few cases the original dub was not good ,but it still was someone’s work and deserves to be present . There was a few cases where the dubs were not owned by the Japanese or were lost ,but never understood if it’s available why not include it as a bonus . I wonder if they did marketing research to see if a new dub would pull people in or if this was in the contract from Gainax ?

I was looking for something else on the archive of ADV’s site and noticed a link about it . I was trying to remember did the ADV Films Neon Genesis Evangelion 10th Anniversary set ever come out ? I don’t remember seeing it at all and I could not find much if anything .
I found several dead links to a 10th anniversary set, but none of the pictures had a logo on them, so can’t tell if it’s ADV or not.

So on Friday we will finally hear the new dub and see if the old dub is included . I’m thinking no on the old dub ,but hope it is . To be honest I’m curious of the new dub . I’ll give it a fair chance . A little harder to do in this case since I’m used to the old cast ,but I’ll try it and if I really don’t like it I have the original perfect set , plus the platinum thinpack I can watch .

It’s sad in this day and age it’s that hard preserve someone’s work . I think in Sailor Moon’s case it was supposedly Naoko Takeuchi who had final say and from what I read was so upset at what was done to the show here it’s why it took so long to get it re-licensed again . In NGE’s case I wonder if the ultimate problem may come in the form of Gainax . ADV actually sued them at one point over the live action movie and I’m not sure if there is still bad blood . So if they want nothing to do with ADV they might not even allow someone to use the old dub if it’s ever put on Blu-ray here .

That’s nice and all, but they should have tried the dance from when Asuka and Shinji had to synchronize together to defeat Israfel 
I tried to watch a few minutes ago . I’m going to wait to I wake up a little more . So far one voice sounds like it might prevent me from watching . ,but I’ll have to wait for a few episodes . The cast is listed on the wiki character page .

So the new dub is not what I’d call bad . I think the whole issue is like I was afraid of I’m going to judge it on the original dub I know . The other bad thing about doing a dub that is already done is a lot of the new cast to me sound like they are trying to imitate the ADV cast . I’m going to rewatch the first ADV disc on Sunday to get a better take before I fully dismiss this . As of now though I’m just going to watch in Japanese and work my brain a little reading . Might also give me another take .

I agree wholeheartedly with you @Psychopuppet. Just watched episodes 1 and 8 of both versions (Netflix and DVD).
Nothing wrong with the new dub cast, but it just doesn’t sound right. Specifically Asuka and Shinji. Asuka sounds much less “tsun” and arrogant in this dub, and Shinji uhhhh yeah…
Yeah those were the two I felt off about . I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get used to Shinji’s voice . Seems more whiny then Spike’s Shinji . Though to be fair even in Japanese it’s kind of whiny .
