Polyphonica / Shinkyoku Sōkai Polyphonica

Who cares? Coaties BACK! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

AND HER FRONT!

Well, if two different groups did the subtitles, there’s your answer. Considering the sales volume and profit margin it probably would cost more than it’s worth to go back and change it. At least we got it… front and back.

Loving this show so far  Haruka is excelent as Corticarte

Not trying to intrude on the comments earlier, but about Phoron/Pholon, (to my ears anyway) some characters use the first pronunciation (Coatie) while others use the second (Rembalt).

Episode 11 –

spoiler

It was really sweet that Coatie wanted to save Pholon like that. But he finds out from Elainduce that Coatie is the score! It was really hard to see Coatie being tortured like that too. As the bad guys extract the score from her, Coatie begins to disappear and her only regret is that she won’t be able to see Pholon again. But as her bracelet falls off and breaks, Pholon is suddenly there, calling her name. However, he is too late as the extracted score brings the instruments to life. I have no idea how Pholon will be able to stop this or if he even can. And how will he save the vanishing Coatie?

Episode 12 –

spoiler

The score continues to play and Coatie continues to disappear, as Bolzon begins to remake the world. Pholon runs to Coatie and ends up passing right through her! He plays his commandia for Coatie as all of his classmates back at the school sing the song that originally brought Coatie and Pholon together all those years ago. But the world around them starts to disappear as the black sphere grows.
*
The classmates continue to sing, but between the song and the commandia, there is no effect on Coatie - she is almost completely gone now. Pholon has many regrets where Coatie is concerned and plays with even more emotion. I wish he would just sing as well – I know Coatie would hear him!
*
Finally, Coatie begins to solidify once again – took her long enough! She breaks her chains and in another reality, Pholon kisses her, giving her the strength and the will to become the adult Coatie – the eight winged Crimson Queen!
*
Iaritique attacks her and is easily defeated. Pholon and his companions play together as Coatie takes on Bolzon and the sphere. The Instruments of Creation are affected and shut down. Coatie is magnificent in all her eight winged glory!
*
However, Bolzon cannot be turned aside from his determination to become a god of a new world he wants to create. Coatie enters the sphere and destroys it from within. The room begins to crumble, yet Pholon tries to save Bolzon. Instead, he attacks Pholon with a knife and Coatie has to stop him. Bolzon and his criminal friends, who refuse to leave their master, are left to their fate as the heroes escape. Once outside, they watch from above as the oil rig sinks into the sea, taking the Instruments of Creation with it.
*
A year later and it all seems like a dream. Things are back to normal as Coatie and Peruce still fight over Pholon. I don’t know how Renbart can think this is peaceful! It’s graduation day and it’s nice to see Pholon as valedictorian. He was so nervous and even falls off the stage! His final thoughts were nice ones and as the friends gather on a hilltop overlooking the town to play their orchestras together once again, I know Pholon and Coatie will be together forever!
*
As the final credits play, it was fun to see Yufinly’s office with everyone there from the first series. And it’s very appropriate that this ends as it began – with an older Pholon on the rooftop and Coatie appearing before him, but this time, they take each other’s hand. Very sweet! And the music was great in this story as well, especially Pholon’s beautiful song.

A question for all, but especially for Wicca: Would you have wanted to have Crimson S come before Polyphonica or have the two series as they were presented?

I think I like the presentation the way it was. I liked the way the first season hinted at their past and only revealed a little. It concentrated on Phoron’s and Coatie’s current friendship and showed other spirit / human relationships.

I found the second season to be much more dramatic and emotional. I think if I had watched it in reverse, I would have been disappointed. The second season went into much greater detail and how much deeper their relationship really was and the basis for it.

And now, it’s your turn Newhawk! What are your thoughts?

Though I did enjoy this prequel season, I do have a minor complaint. It is a common occurrence with prequel’s though.

Many things seemed to have been ‘retconned’, in other words they changed history that was already presented in order to make it work for their new story. Minor changes are easily overlooked, but a couple things did go too far.

I believe the two series were shown in their correct order. Polyphonica made me like Coatie, but Crimson S led me to fall in love with her! She was a fun and funny character in Polyphonica, but she could be a bit annoying, too. I also didn’t quite understand why she was referred to as the Crimson Annihilator as they never addressed that.

Crimson S really filled in the backstory on Coatie. What I find the most intriguing with her was the way she was willing to do such horrible things because she knew that her contract partner Kuchiba Kaoru was doing them for a noble purpose. Then, when she discovered Phoron, she saw the same purity but in a positive direction.

I also loved the way Coatie and Phoron improved each other-Coatie found a new purpose from Phoron’s music and Phoron grew and matured thanks to Coatie’s support. I could really see each of them pulling, nudging and guiding the other to become a better person.

I guess I can sum it up this way. The Coatie of Polyphonica I would love to have as my friend. The Coatie of Crimson S I want to have by my side forever.

The one thing the messed up, continuity-wise, was Prinesica wasn’t exposed as bonded with a spirit until well AFTER they were interning for Yufinley. They blew that one wide open. That was a totally bad move.

Threads merged together.

Both Polyphonica and Crimson S are officially out of print now.

Polyphonica is available to watch digitally on HiDive, but as of this post, Crimson S is lost to the sands of time…

It’s a shame too, because Crimson S is the superior version of the show, imo

Totally agree except for one part. OG has one of the best car chases in all of anime!

(Yes I’m just ragging on it. OG is still pretty good, but Crimson S blows it out of the water!)
