U know what that means? It’s gonna cost and arm and a leg, and maybe a vial organ to licence it. So yeah, I don’t see this coming out in R1-land anytime soon.
No…strike that. I can see this coming out here eventually, but by Aniplex themselves, ala Durarara or Bacano BD.
We can always hope that someone already has it, and they’re just sitting on it waiting for the JP releases to finish, or they’re waiting for AX to make the announcement (much like the HOTD announcement).
The first volume of the Puella Magi Oriko Magica side story manga sold 62,869 copies to debut at #4 on Oricon’s comic sales chart for the May 9-15 week, and the first volume of the Puella Magi Kazumi Magica ~The innocent malice~ manga also sold 59,728 copies to land right below at #5. Not only did these two volumes outperform the first two volumes of the main Puella Magi Madoka Magica magical girl manga in first-week sales, they are the first books in the franchise to debut in the weekly top 5. The franchise has now sold over 500,000 copies.
The first volume of the main manga series debuted in February (one month after the television anime series itself premiered) and only sold 14,000 copies in its first week. However, four weeks later as the anime grew in popularity, the same volume sold 45,000 copies in a week. The second volume of the main series debuted in March with 31,050 copies sold in its first week — and then sold 49,166 copies in its second week. All told, the first volume has sold about 220,000 copies and the second volume has sold about 200,000.
I think they were implying that Aniplex of America were the ones who were going to release them.
But if not and they were actually saying they were in negotiations with another R1, then I’m gonna say…Media Blasters, only because they, MB, made a reference on their Facebook page about getting a “big” license.

That’s what I was thinking. Given their mixed pricing schemes I hope it’s Funimation , MB , or Sentai that is negotiating with them not them negotiating with the Japanese side to release them here.

Given they said pretty much the same exact thing about Working!! and it turned out that it was NISA. As well as they said similar about Angel Beats!, and as we know, Sentai has that, I’m inclinded to believe that it’s another R1 studio (other than AoA) that’s in negotiations with Aniplex over the license.
MB has been throwing around hints of a big license for awhile, not to mention, back when Madoka first started airing, someone struck up a conversation at a convention (don’t remember which one) with the MB booth there, and out of the blue, the MB guy asked what the guy thought of Madoka.
Along with their SZS license they haven’t done anything with as of yet.
All the signs have been pointing strongly to MB.
And even with all that, I still hope it’s Sentai.
Just because I’d love to see them get a super popular otaku title.
The second limited-edition volume of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime sold 54,000 units (rounded to the nearest thousand) in its first week to debut at #1 on Oricon’s Blu-ray Disc chart for the May 23-29 week. It is the second Madoka Magica volume in a row to top the chart.
The second Madoka Magica volume also outsold the previous volume, which moved 53,000 copies in its first week despite a recall on its second official day of sales. Both volumes outsold the previous record-holder, the sixth and final Blu-ray volume of Bakemonogatari (51,000 units). Not incidentally, Akiyuki Shinbo directed both projects.
The manufacturer Medicom Toy will be offering a plush doll of the polarizing character Kyubey from the television anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica at retail at the end of September. Another toy maker, Banpresto, previously revealed that it will offer a 21-centimeter-tall (about 8-inch-tall) plush doll in August, but only as a “B” prize in its Ichiban Kuji lottery line.
Medicom Toy’s version will be 400 millimeters (16 inches) long and weigh 500 grams (1 pound). Pre-orders for the 3,490-yen (US$43.60) toy are due by June 24.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica just finished airing in April. The lead character, Madoka, forms a contract with Kyubey to become a magical girl that fights witches in her hometown in exchange for a wish.
Just thought I’d share that MadokaMagicaUSA.com is a registered domain for Aniplex of America. Sometimes domain registrations don’t mean much, but its particularly recent registration is suspect (June 9 2011). I think in this case its pretty safe to presume this will be their AX announcement.
Hopefully this is more in lines with Durarara!! release price if they are indeed releasing it their selves. Cause I don’t think many here will be willing to pay more then $200.00 for this series. Even at that price I don’t see many. Course even with the higher prices I’ve heard all of the Aniplex USA releases have sold out or at least rather well. That it looks more like they will be handling it their selves makes me wonder how high is the licensing cost?
