SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “THE ONE SHOW YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED”

HOUSTON, March 27, 2014 – In conjunction with all your wildest fantasies, the countless posts on the Sentai Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr pages, and the secret stash of fanart hidden away deep inside your closet, Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its latest acquisition, “The One Show You’ve Always Wanted”. That’s right, it finally happened. This comedic/historical/high school/slice of life/action/drama (also there’s some talking cats in there) straight from the recesses of your most fervent desires is directed by The One Guy Who Directed Your SECOND Most Favorite Anime (That One Goes Here), with series composition by The Guy Who Did that One Show (You Know The One), character designs by What’s His Face, You Know the Guy Who…who (Wait, WAIT Don’t Tell Me), and animation production by That Studio That Did That Show From Last Season (With the Great Art).

In a world much like our own, or perhaps not, I don’t know whatever, there exists a young middle/high school boy or girl who’s life so far has been dedicated to seeking vengeance, or quite possibly fame, or love, OR QUITE POSSIBLY NOTHING AT ALL and they just want to laugh and have fun, who knows. Along with his tightly knit group of friends, or maybe it’s a ghost friend or some sort of pet monster, he or she and them or it try to find the truth about this huge catastrophe that has recently happened, or happened in the past, or will happen soon….or they just want to laugh and have fun, who knows. Anyway, on their journey (or not) they run into an old friend or enemy or childhood friend who may or may not also want vengeance from the boy or girl or someone else, so in an effort to bury the past they team up to vanquish their foes together… or maybe they just go to the hot springs or the beach, or hold a cultural festival, OR QUITE POSSIBLY DO NOTHING AT ALL. In the process the may or may not fall in love or become enemies or get into every sexy situation under the sun, but you know it will all end on a light note, or in total despair, or not end at all, so prepare yourself for one wild/dramatic/hilarious/action filled ride in THE ONE SHOW YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED!

The One Show You’ve Always Wanted will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow…or not, let’s just go to the hot spring.

Sentai, that’s the show that I’ve always wanted! How did you know?

BTW, was Sentai actually involved in the production of the devil survivor 2 that has been Aires so far? Or can they just predict the future?

I doubt they’ve actually been involved in any production that they’ve licensed, as that would be pretty big news for them, so I’m sure they would have not only mentioned it, but posted a PR about it.

So Sentai is banking on us to make their PR prophecy come true? I guess I might be able to do something towards that.

I find it interesting that they don’t list the K-on series, which they acquired “half done” and finished, as a hit but they’re listing their production of devil survivor 2, which isn’t even out yet, as a hit. Counting your chickens before they hatch lol.

Trying to guilt me into getting it. I’m on to your game, Sentai

They’ve had Devil Survivor 2 in their About Sentai Filmworks section since the day they announced it and released the PR.

The only thing that has guaranteed is that it was going to get a dub.
Just like Majestic Prince and Girls und Panzer when they added those to the Henneko PR, 12 days after announcing Majestic Prince.

If Sentai made copies of ds2 don’t fly off the shelves then the PR doesn’t work. The phraseology of it makes me wonder if Sentai has indeed hired an oracle.

…I miss the days when a bluray announcement was a guarantee of a dub. It was more informative than this fall-back rule

Chances are, since it’s part of Megami Tensei universe, they were probably banking on the popularity of the of the game to cover for the series, since the series itself hadn’t aired at the time they licensed it.

Don’t know how well P4 did for them since Aniplex gimped it, so it’s hard to tell what they were thinking exactly.

So this is to also be Sentai’s first combo pack?

Yep.
And annoyingly thus far, the sub-only BD was cancled.
I hope they at least do an RE BD when they decide to release the LE.

No interest in this super-premium set? I’ve been hoping that Sentai would embrace the combo pack for eons now, but I can understand the call for a non-le bd (or combo pack, better still) as it would be tragic to want to buy this only to fins that the LE is gone and thus purchase is impossible.

Will Sentai post a non LE with the LE or will they wait for their LE stash to run dry? I’m always a bit leery of these super-LEs as if they make too many and they don’t sell out then the maker loses face (cough import fate/zero cough) but if they make too few then we lose out.

I’m confident that Sentai won’t shaft us like AoA did with Kara no Kyoukai, where anyone who didn’t get aboard the LE train can only get into the franchise via a crummy DVD set.

It will depend on how they do the LE.
I have absolutely no use for trinkets or booklets.
If it has an artbox to fit both seasons (or leaving room for possibly a 3rd season, since the 3rd LN just got released last month) I’m relatively ok with it as long as it isn’t too expensive.
But, leaving it as it is, with the LE being the only way to get the BD (dubbed or not), seems rather AoA-ish and has been one of my grips about some of the AoA releases in the past.

And I do hope Sentai doesn’t start travelling the AoA path.

While I could be interested in a booklet, possibly, I’m definitely not one for the trinkets.

The novelty factor of it all has me intrigued but the extra content in the LE will be what makes it for me.

I don’t want to see any company going down the dark path of AoA. I wouldn’t mind companies using the “hold off on the bluray until the dub” approach that Nisa is experimenting with and Sentai/funi used for years. I’ve said it before but it as true now as it was then: I miss the Sentai Rule.

I’m thinking that going by how they’re calling this, “Limited Edition Numbered Premium Box Set” it will be only a very small batch; maybe no more than 1000, if that: like art prints - 1/500, 2/500, etc. And once those are gone, they’ll release the seperate RE DVD’s and BD’s. As for more combo packs, I think those will be only for these LENP’s if they do decide to make more.

Hmm…can we expect a Paul Champagne metal artbox. Now that would be sweet.

I don’t know if it is just due to age but the Paul Champagne metal artbox that I finally acquired isn’t all that amazing. It doesn’t feel all that “metal” and, more importantly, the art printed on it is pretty low res; “retina” it is not.

Though in the decade+ since the time that box was made the printing tech has surely improved and metal > cardboard.

I kinda hope that they won’t be like art prints as some of those Funimation pre-signed ones are still kicking around, sadly, on RightStuf after all these years and sales.

I was figuring we would hear something about Sentai’s first LE release fairly soon, but I wasn’t expecting them to partially cancel an already solicited release and make it their first LE. I really despise combo packs, but if it comes with a nice art box, I will add it to my collection regardless. I look forward to seeing what they do.

Sentai has experimented with a lot of different ways of releasing shows. I’m wondering if we may see more sub-only DVD sets quickly, with LE blurays or combo packs to follow? It would allow them to get some shows out quickly and gauge the market response, while waiting for the bluray exclusive window to expire. It can be hard to guess with them at times.

Combopacks are made of win. It has the bluray for those who have embraced modernity (though bluray is almost 8 years old…) and the DVD for the Luddites, and for those times when DRM keeps the bluray watchers down, all in one box.

I’ve got to agree with Celestial here, even us DVD Luddites know a good deal when we see one, so I do like combo packs and I do buy them when they are available. Now, where’d I put my wooden shoes?

Mark Gosdin

When I get a Blu-Ray, I’m limited to one TV in my house I can watch it in. When I have a DVD, I have more options on where I can play it.

For me personally, I’m just not a fan of combo packs because I have no use for the DVDs. It’s simply extra money and more space for something I will never use. The only thing of mine that is DVD only is my laptop and I hardly ever play discs on it. I don’t really hate them or anything. They’re just not my preferred release format. I actually prefer a digital copy over a DVD, as it would be more useful in my case.

I can see how they are a good thing for people who use both formats, but I’m just not one of them. I will only buy DVDs if there is no bluray available, or if the video and audio quality doesn’t justify the added price. For instance, I’m not going to pay $30 for an upscaled bluray when I can get the DVD for $5 and have my player do the upscaling.
