DVD Collections Slated For August Release

HOUSTON, June 1, 2009—Sentai Filmworks today announced its acquisition of three new anime properties, including the underwater action series Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, the yuri mecha mashup Destiny of the Shrine Maiden, and the superhero comedy Dokkoida?!. ADV Films handles North American home media distribution for Sentai Filmworks and will release each title on DVD this August.

DAPHNE IN THE BRILLIANT BLUE COLLECTION ONE
Sentai Filmworks is pleased to present the first installment in the underwater sci-fi comedy Daphne in the Brilliant Blue. Daphne in the Brilliant Blue Collection One arrives in stores August 18.
Animated by powerhouse studio J.C. Staff (Azumanga Daioh, Excel Saga), Daphne in the Brilliant Blue follows the madcap adventures of a military academy reject who ends up part of a most unusual sort of help-for-hire agency. Originally distributed in North America by Geneon Entertainment, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue may best be described as a “fun, fast-paced piece of nonsense” (DVD Verdict).
Synopsis Maia is having a very bad day. Her life-long dreams to join the elite Marine Environment Agency wither and die, when, despite everyone’s high expectations, she fails the entrance exams. Then, with the loss of her student status, she gets evicted! Penniless, homeless, and unemployed, Maia finds herself in the middle of a shoot-out between fugitive convicts and the Nereides – sexy agents who only take the most high-paying and dangerous jobs. Desperate, Maia agrees to a job in the next Nereides operation – as bait!
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue Collection One (SRP $39.98 DVD) is a two disc release including the series’ first 13 episodes, presented in both English 2.0 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles.

However, the destiny of these three changes on Himeko’s 16th birthday when the mark of the sun appears on her chest. What does this solar mark represent? Sentai Filmworks is excited to announce the forthcoming Dokkoida?! Complete Collection, which hits store shelves August 25.
Dokkoida?! is a mischievous send-up of superheroes, Ultraman, and diapers that is both “unpredictable… and darned funny!” (Anime World). Originally distributed in North America by Geneon Entertainment, Dokkoida?! is adapted from a popular light novel series that has also been made into a manga (published in the United States by DC Comics under its CMX imprint).
Synopsis: The Galaxy Federation Police (GFP) desperately wants to cover-up its personnel shortage with new mechanized power-suits. Suzuo, 19-years old, desperately needs a job. Tampopo needs an earthling to fit the prototype of her company’s suit and declares Suzuo the perfect candidate! Strong competitors and the wacky A-class criminals fight against our hero in diapers, but they must not recognize each other out of costume or the test results will be a failure. Still, it’s OK if they all live in the same apartment building to save money, right?
Dokkoida?! Complete Collection Collection (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a two disc release including the entire 12 episode series, presented in both English 2.0 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles.

Notice that Sakura Wars is now listed under Sentai Filmworks.
Orphen set is also very nicely priced for both seasons.

You missed one:

Siren DVD (S) LiveAction 8/18/09

After a few months of quiet, we are now getting another Switchblade title. Is this the “ghost story with lots and lots of sex???”

Anyway, it’s good to see Sakura Wars and Orphen both back in print. The first season of Orphen has been unavailable for sometime now, and I’ve really been wanting to nab it, so I’m excited. And the sweet price point is just icing on the cake.

Since ADV seems to be acquiring DVD rights for several of the shows it grabbed for TAN, maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll grab Utena too.

Added: Thanks

Yeah Siren is the one Matt Greenfield talked about at ACen. It looks like it’ll be one of the top 3 or 4 pick ups for Switchblade since Attack Girls Swimteam and Cruel Restaurant.

As for me, I can’t wait to get the Geneon pickups as I said in the other thread… but Orphen too is something I’ve been waiting for a while now.

Saiyuki at that price should do quite well… Saiyuki has always had a strong cult following, less so now than in previous years but there’s still a lot of them that have not bought the series. Maybe now that it’s 50% cheaper it might get a good deal of sales.

I am going to probably pick up the saiyuki set and of course mention else where probably Sakura Wars, Orphen, Dokkioda. Saiyuki has a can’t miss price for that many episodes for that good of a series.

Awesome. I really liked Orphen, I want to get it if I can. My parents said I couldn’t buy more anime till I had a job, and now I have a job, so I think I’ll be able to get it. Maybe pick up a bargain bin series while I’m at it.

Besides the stack packs, it’s very nice. I really like both the slip cover, and the individual covers on the cases. Thanks for the pics. It makes me even more impatient to get this.
