This year’s Anime Matsuri was a big one for us, in a lot of ways. It was the first time we attended, so excitement was already at a fever pitch. We also had a ton of great announcement and the world premiere of Super Sonico’s English dub!

Auditions
Our audtions went VERY well! We had to double up our number of entries allowed due to such high demand, but luckily we were able to fit everyone in who wanted to participate. We will be announcing the finalists on May 11, so keep an eye out on our social media channels for more information then!
Body Painting
Our friends at RCC Creations did a kick ass job all weekend giving away free Parasyte body painting. The booth was constantly full with one activity or another, and everyone was super excited for Rudy to work his magic on their arms or head.

[size=19]Super Sonico English Dub World Premiere[/size]
Our Super Sonico screening was a huge success, with attendees showing up in droves to get a first look at the Sonico dub featuring Jessica Nigri. Early birds were well rewarded as the first 70 people in line got autographed posters of Nigri in her Sonico Cosplay as well as autographed Posters of the Sonico cover art.
And while we are on the subject of Sonico, we were also able to announce a new cast reveal as well, which you can check out on our YouTube Channel NOW!

Q. Why is it that you guys Dubbed the first season of Familiar of Zero, But the second season is only Subbed??
A. Actually, we did not dub the first season of Familiar of Zero, that was done by another company. When we rescued the show we also obtained the rights for the English dub that came with it.

Q. Do you plan on doing dub upgrades like you did with Maidsama,MM,Special A,Clannad,Love Chunibuyo and other delusions, and Maria Holic? A good example of a dub upgrade would be Golden Time . I love dubs in most of my anime.
A. This is always an option for us. If we see that any particular show is doing better than our expectations, and certain other factors are met, a show has a possibility of becoming a dub upgrade.

Q. A lot of your licensed titles deliver value in its own way. But what titles would you consider as the most precious due to popularity and incredible story?
A. Well, the easy answer is to list out our top 10 biggest franchises. This is where you’ll find your Persona 4’s, your Log Horizons, your Clannads, and so forth.
As for which titles we think are most precious due to factors like popularity and incredible story, that really differs from person to person here. I for one thought that Humanity has Declined was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while, along with stuff like the “ef” series and Shinkai’s Garden of Words. Though I’m sure the people around me have their own opinions…maybe one day we will do a staff picks type of thing. Thanks!

A. I wish I could license this myself, haha! I absolutely loved it, one of the very few shows that isn’t ours that I’ve watched all the way through. I love the short episode format, and the comedy was spot on. And just as an fyi, the Robot Family eps were my favorite.

Q. Are the changes of a series being licensed severely decreased when you don’t announce the license to it right when it comes out seasonally? How often are shows that have already come out licensed?
A. No, the chances do not decrease in any way. Every title has a chance, even the ones that have been out for years. As for how often, we take a look back all the time! We recently announced a couple of titles, Guardian Ninja Mamoru and Windy Tales, which were released quite some time ago.

[size=19]New Releases This Week: Pet Girls and Double D’s[/size]

This week we’ve got two new releases ready to grace your shelves: The Pet Girl of Sakurasou Complete Collection and DD Fist of the North Star. If you missed out on picking up Vol. 1 and 2 of Pet Girl before, you can now kill two birds with one stone in the Complete Collection! Who doesn’t want more Mashiro anyway, right? DD Fist of the North Star takes the series and spins it on his head, showing you a lighter and funnier side to Kenshiro and the gang. You can pick up both of these releases starting this week, so get to it and enjoy!

Kenshiro, trained in the secret martial art of Hokuto Shinken and unemployed, finds this skill-set doesn’t help him at all in modern-day Japan when the only job he can find is at a convenience store. Then, he finds out that he has to compete for the job with his two brothers, Toki and Raoh, who are equally unqualified. Without an apocalypse or nuclear war on the horizon, the three brothers must work together if they want to live in the battle of stocking shelves.

Banished from normal housing for adopting stray cats, Sorata Kanda is impounded in Room 101 of Sakura Dormitory with the troublemakers and weirdos! Meanwhile, Mashiro Shiina in Room 202 is the cat’s meow of the art world, but she’s so dysfunctional that she needs a full-time keeper to survive. Given Sorata’s weakness for taking in creatures, he takes over Mashiro’s grooming, feeding, and general domestication. Who’s on whose leash becomes anybody’s guess!

Q. Seeing as you licensed Love Stage!!, what are the odds of you getting more BL anime (in particular, I’d love to buy Sekaiichi Hatukoi and DRAMAtical Murder)? And has an approximate release date for Love Stage!! been decided yet?
A. I personally really liked Love Stage!!, and as for the odds of us picking up one of those titles…I would say 50/50? Can’t really comment about a release date for Love Stage!! yet, don’t think it has made it onto our release schedule.

Q. Why doesn’t Matt Greenfield direct dubs more often?
A. We actually keep Matt in cryostasis a la Demolition Man here in the office, and he periodically emerges to direct anime and to check if they’ve finally created real Patlabor style mecha that are available to buy to the public. He’s actually unfreezing right now, but I can’t say for which purpose!

Q. When Jessica Calvello moved back to Texas did she reach out to Sentai for audition opportunities or did you contact her to get her back in the booth asap?
A. I remember when she was cast in Girls und Panzer and thought that it was a pleasant surprise, I loved her in her other big titles, and just her in general is fun to be around and to talk to. After her stint in the studios doing Garupan, we got to talking on Twitter and eventually the LEWD card was born, and of course she came to visit again to play Hajime in Gatchaman Crowds. It’s been a disgusting and perverse experience hanging out with her since then, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

A. Right now? It’s a tie between Food Wars and DanMachi, with Hello!! Kinmoza in a close close second.
I can , IS2 World Purge OVA anyone? would be the most likely. Hopefully they can rope him into Parasyte and Chaika as well, but we shall see.

Q. How awesome is Luci Christian? Hearing comments from other people, she is quite the sweetheart.
A. She is VERY awesome! It’s always nice to have her in the studio, I always try to sit in when she’s here to listen to her do her thing. The Sonico sessions were actually super fun to do. Everyone was very energetic and lively while we were recording so the atmosphere was great and Luci, as always, did a great job.

Q. You guys have licensed Amagi Brilliant Park, which was not simulcasted during the season it was airing. This led me to wonder, do you guys have any influence on what shows get simulcasted? Also, how long before an anime season starts until you guys start to get a license for a show?
A. No, we do not have any influence on what shows get simulcasted. These terms are already laid out before hand. As for how long, it varies on a title by title basis. As in, we could acquire a title and announce it within a few days, or the process can be longer and we may have to announce it at another opportune time in the future.

Q. How long does it normally take for Sentai to release a series in the US after they gain the licensing rights? Does the show have to end before? What’s the process for Sentai to decide if a show gets dubbed? Is that during the hiatus before the show gets a US release?
A. It varies for every title, really. A number of different factors can affect a release date: arrival of materials from Japan, timetables for subtitling, ADR times and availability if we are dubbing it, whether or not it can fit in the release schedule, and a bunch of other things. Yes, the show has to end before the process can even start.

Q. When will all those TBS shows that have not receive a Blu-ray treatment be released? I’m disappointed with this August releases and there are plenty of shows that has have yet to get a Blu-ray release. And holdback is not an excuse.
A. Holdback is the only reason why many of these titles have not gotten a blu-ray release yet. I assure you that as soon as a holdback period has ended for a specific title, we are actively trying to bring it to market ASAP.
