Star Blazers / Uchū Senkan Yamato / Yamato 2199 / Yamato 2202/ Yamato 2205/ Rebel 3199

Just finished watching Vol. 7…

I’m Speechless, This show was a great tribute to the original, yet forged it’s own ground and really turned into something special in it’s own right.

Hopefully there will be a licensing announcement so you all can see it (Hopefully unaltered, which was the main reason I imported the Blu-Rays (which have English subs) from Japan).

Voyager goes it alone:

Star Blazers/Yamato 2199 DVD/Blu-rays Offered With English/Spanish Subtitles
posted on 2013-12-01 10:25 EST
Pre-orders begin on December 19 for first volume’s release on February 27

The StarBlazers.com website announced on Sunday that it will offer new DVD and Blu-ray Discs of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime project with English and Spanish subtitles, under the name Star Blazers 2199. There will be six discs for the 26-episode series, and pre-orders will begin on December 19 for the first volume, which will ship on February 27, 2014.

The website also announced the anime’s official Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts in English. Shiori Kawana will promote Star Blazers outside Japan as the “Official Yamato Girl.”

With Space Battleship Yamato 2199, director Yutaka Izubuchi (RahXephon) remade the classic space opera anime Space Battleship Yamato. The project debuted in Japan last year as a series of theatrical films, but it was planned from the beginning as a television series as well. The first episode aired on television in April, and the final film opened in Japanese theaters on August 24. The last television episode announced in September that a brand new film has been green-lit for next year.

Bandai Visual offered the Japanese Blu-ray Discs of the anime with English subtitles.

The web simulcast for the anime had announced in April that the series is launching overseas under the title Star Blazers 2199. The day before Anime Expo in July, Voyager Entertainment renewed its Star Blazers website with a 13-minute compilation of English-subtitled trailers and a three-minute video explaining “What Is Star Blazers 2199?” Production I.G and its partners screened the first episode of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime with an English dub (under the title Star Blazers 2199) at Anime Expo. sigh You’ll probably be better off importing, imo, depending on price point and whether or not you can handle seeing “Argo” and not “Yamato” even though it’s plastered all over the ship in the backgrounds, and on the crews’ uniforms.

I’m not sure that I’d trust the English subtitles on a Japanese-made bluray. Probably some humor in them though.

I would have preferred that the dub had happened, though I recall that they reached out to Bang/Zoom (why…WHY?!) so I’m not too broken up that it didn’t happen as it would have sucked, been another dub where the actors sound like they’re reading their lines to the viewer instead of conversing with the characters in a show. Someday Bang/Zoom might learn that anime dubbing and stage play line delivery shouldn’t be done in the same way, but I’m not holding my breath.

6 discs. Sigh. Is it still 2003 in Japan?

The subs are actually pretty good on the Japanese import Blu-Rays,

Only reason I imported was because the subs are accurate and it doesn’t have Argo as the name of the ship. Importing isn’t for everyone because it’s damn expensive, but for me it was worth it.

Awww man, you mean none of the R1’s wanted a piece of the Yamato? Not even Funi, even though they still have to release that one movie they did license…how long has it been now?

Ohhh shucks…

In case anyone is interested

New movie will be interesting, I’m sure it’s being done as an “initial encounter” with Gatlantis, so they can get the art / CGI assets ready before going full bore with everything for series 2.

 • Just a note: current estimate is this story takes place in the 45 days between episode 24 (left Iscandar) and 25 (Encounter with Goer at Balan)*

Most Telling: The Yamato 2199 panel in LP1; Nearly 1000 seats (or more). Roughly only 60 attendees. Considering the outside hordes- Sad.
So neither Yamato fans or Star Blazer fans bothered with it. Maybe they should have just picked on set of fans and pushed it for them…or it can mean Yamato as a franchise is finished here in the U.S. , sort of like…Gundam :cheer:

However, suddenly, he encounters a mysterious group at the edge of the Magellan system. He finds out that they are called the “Gatlantis,” and that their leader is the Gutaba expedition group’s governor-general who calls himself “Goran Dagam of the Thunder,” and the governor-general demands that Yamato be handed over to him. Yamato, wanting to hurry to Earth, escapes the fray. However, Yamato is attacked by a vicious beam weapon called the “Flame Direct Attack Cannon” that can transcend space.
Yamato was able to retreat within a hair’s breadth, but ends up getting himself lost, and finds himself in a strangely-colored irregular dimension. He decides to turn off the engine on the ship, and explore the mysterious planet. In order to collect information, Kodai, Kirio, Sawamura, Niima, and Aihara also arrive at the planet. What they saw when they arrived was a ship that wasn’t supposed to be there.

Dagam chases after the traces of Yamato’s warp, and also reaches the strangely-colored galaxy. The planet on which Yamato landed was in fact what Dagam had been looking for all along.
The film will open in Japanese theaters on December 6.

Excitement level for the new movie is high. Looking forward to it.
