Summer 2025 Dub/License Wishlist

I didn’t see any threads about the Summer season, but giving that it’s coming up soon I figured I’d start one. Given that individual anime seem to mostly have their own threads here, I decided not to make a thread for the general season (as that might discourage people from using the individual series threads) and to instead focus on the specific topic of licensing and dub wish-lists. If there is a Summer season thread and I just didn’t see it, then by all means please delete this thread.

For me, the most important shows of the season are (in approximate order) 9-nine Ruler’s Crown, Nukitashi the Animation, Watari-kun’s Something is About to Collapse, Bad Girl, and Ruri Rocks (aka Introduction to Mineralogy). Sentai Filmworks has already licensed Bad Girl, and Crunchyroll has Watari-kun. For the other three, Ruri Rocks is the only one I’d want to see licensed by either Crunchyroll or Sentai, because its hard to see either of those companies dubbing 9-nine or Nukitashi. Ideally Amazon would license one or even both of those shows since they dub everything they license now, but I doubt that will happen. I certainly wouldn’t mind Turkey! being dubbed either since it’s possibly the first ever bowling anime but it’s not anywhere near the top of my list.

I guess I’ll go with this for my wishlist

9-nine Ruler’s Crown (licensed and dubbed by Amazon)
Nukitashi the Animation (licensed and dubbed by OceanVeil)
Ruri Rocks (licensed and dubbed by Crunchyroll)
Bad Girl (has already been licensed by Sentai, would like it to be dubbed)
Watari-kun’s Something is About To Collapse (has already been licensed by Crunchyroll, would like it to be dubbed)
Turkey! (licensed and maybe dubbed by Sentai)

OceanVeil badly needs to start licensing and dubbing actual anime (as opposed to hentai which is 99% of what they have) if their $13 a month subscription is ever going to be anything but ridiculously overpriced. Crunchyroll probably has no interest in dubbing/icensing Nukitashi, and Sentai will have plenty of options this season. So Nukitashi would be the perfect anime for OceanVeil. In fact, it fits OceanVeil’s brand of being a site that’s supposed to be (but currently isn’t) for fans of genre’s like Ecchi who feel neglected by Crunchyroll. AKA me. So if their smart and can afford it, this would be a great license for them.

Amazon dubs everything now. It’s a shame because when they had shows I actually wanted them to dub like Killing Bites, Beatless, Karakuri Circus, and Re:Creators, they refused to dub anything despite being the richest company in the world. Now days, Amazon dubs everything they get, but they don’t license anything that interests me anymore. So Amazon getting 9-nine would be awesome.

Watari-kun will likely be Crunchyroll’s most popular new (aka not sequel) Romance of the season so dubbing it should be obvious. I could see them dubbing Ruri Rocks if they license it, though I doubt they will. Although it wasn’t much, there was the slightest bit of fanservice in the trailer and it’s a seemingly all girl cast show. Crunchyroll hasn’t dubbed a show with an all or almost entirely female cast in like 3 years, no matter how popular. They didn’t even dub Bocchi The Rock. So, who knows.

Sentai getting Turkey! would probably be its best chance for a dub. Of course, that still doesn’t mean it’d have a good chance, but hey, it’d have a better chance of a dub from them than from Crunchyroll. As for Bad Girl, it’s hard to predict if Sentai will dub it or not. I have no clue how popular it’s going to be, but unless Sentai gets one of the remaining Isekai/Fantasy shows its hard to see them getting a more popular non-sequel next season than Bad Girl. So it should have a chance, I’d think.

Ultimately though if I had to guess I’d guess Bad Girl gets a dub and maybe Watari-kun if we’re lucky. While the others I mentioned will probably all end up sub-only on either Crunchyroll or Sentai.

What does everyone else here want to see dubbed and/or licensed next season and by whom?

Edit: Crunchyroll has announced their licenses and dubs for the season

Ruri Rocks, Scooped Up By An S-Rank Adventurer, Secrets of the Silent Witch, Takopi’s Original Sin, and Turkey being subtitle only is pretty disappointing. Ruri Rocks looks like one of the best shows of the season, what does Crunchyroll have against dubbing all-female cast shows? S-Rank Adventurer looks like easily the best Isekai, this is what I mean when I say Crunchyroll doesn’t dub shows for straight males these days. New Saga over S-Rank Adventurer is such a terrible decision.

Secrets of the Silent Witch looks like the big Shoujo of the season and meanwhile Crunchyroll is dubbing some donghua I’ve never even heard of (Lord of Mysteries?) over it. Crunchyroll has dubbed two Shoujo basically every season for a year and a half, Secrets of the Silent Witch seemed like a safe bet for a dub.

Takopi’s Original Sin is fairly hyped, actually has a unique art style, and is only 6 episodes and they don’t dub it. Just baffling. Of course, Turkey isn’t getting dubbed. I’m not shocked at all by that since Crunchryoll hates anything that can be called CGDCT and never dub all-girl shows, but come on, there isn’t going to be another chance to dub a bowling show for who knows how many years. Dumb decision not to dub Turkey.

Also, while I was never interested in Grand Blue Dreaming, Crunchyroll licensing it sub-only has to be a pretty big blow to people who wanted it dubbed. Amazon finally starts dubbing shows, and one of their biggest shows gets a second season and it goes to Crunchyroll sub-only. Just absolutely awful news as the thought of Amazon not licensing it had not even crossed my mind.

Now for the good news, they ARE dubbing Watari-kun’s Something is About to Collapse, Mikadono Sisters, and Cultural Exchange with a Game Center Girl. That’s actually three shows getting dubbed that interest me which is way more than any season has had in ages. It still isn’t nearly as much as I’d hope but it it’s a huge improvement over every other season for the past year. Onmyo Kaiten might end up being okay as well, but that show cannot be argued to deserve a dub over say Ruri Rocks given how unpopular it currently is. Maybe it will get popular when it airs but that is what backlog dubs are for.

I would of dubbed Ruri Rocks, Turkey!, Secrets of the Silent Witch, Takopi’s Original Sin, and Scooped Up by An S-Rank Adventurer instead of Lord of Mysteries (which isn’t even anime), New Saga (super generic Fantasy), Nyaight of the Living Cat (really dumb/lame concept), The Earthbound Mole (who cares about this show?), and The Water Magician (super generic Isekai).

Lastly, my most important shows of the season, Nukitashi the Animation and 9-nine Ruler’s Crown, still haven’t been licensed. That’s good because that means there is still a chance for them to get dubbed. Sentai currently only has one new show for the season and two total so hopefully they can get something else because otherwise they are licensing about the same amount of shows as Amazon now. Although Sentai licensing less shows each season (2 or 3 instead of around 5) and dubbing them all instead of only dubbing half of them, would actually be an improvement and a good strategy, in my opinion. The money saved by licensing less shows can be used for dubbing the shows you do license.

I agree with your points.

I can’t stand sub anime either.

Good news is Nukitashi is licensed by oceanveil!
