I’m familiar with a couple of these superstitions, but many were new to me. Thanks for sharing. Have you tried any of them?
Of course! But I won’t say which.
Hmmmm… why do I have the mental image of you carrying something to a spring???
Very funny!
More Freddy, this time by Will Smith:
Apparently that last one gets played almost every year, but I never heard it until tonight! Thank god for iTunes!
The Halloween Tree - Ray Bradbury

A group of eight boys set out to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, only to discover that a ninth friend, Pipkin, has been whisked away on a journey that could determine whether he lives or dies. Through the help of a mysterious character named Moundshroud, they pursue their friend across time and space through ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures, Celtic Druidism, Notre Dame Cathedral in Medieval Paris, and The Day of the Dead in Mexico. Along the way, they learn the origins of the holiday that they celebrate, and the role that the fear of death has played in shaping civilization. The Halloween Tree itself, with its many branches laden with jack-o’-lanterns, serves as a metaphor for the historical confluence of these traditions.
The novel originated in 1967 as the screenplay for an unproduced collaboration with animator Chuck Jones. In 1992, Bradbury wrote and narrated a feature-length animated version of the novel for television, for which he won an Emmy Award. The film was animated by Hanna-Barbera and features some of the finest animation they had done at the time. It use to play annually on Cartoon Network, and frequents local TV stations during the Halloween season, but sadly the movie has been forgotten by many. It was released on VHS almost 12 years ago, and I still have my copy, but it has yet to make the transition to DVD. Despite this, this movie is perhaps one of the finest Halloween themed movies ever!
I watch this every year, not only for the movie itself, but also in memory of Hanna-Barbera, which has been merged out of existence. It’s remains today as an in-name-only division of Cartoon Network, and only appears to Scooby Doo these days (mainly for copyright reasons.) Here is a homage to this holiday classic:
As much as I watch cartoons, I don’t think I ever saw that one. A shame for me!!
OMG! I love the Munsters! Though it just wasn’t the same when they did the colored movies years later…
And it makes me quite sad that you haven’t seen the Halloween Tree. You would love it! It really needs to come out on DVD at some point.
Here’s another Halloween special that I really hope you’re familiar with. It use to play on CBS every year!
I agree. The Munsters were much better in black & white! I did watch Garfield and loved it every year. As for Halloween Tree, I really want to see it now. I hope it does come to DVD someday. I would really enjoy it. And here is a trailer for one of the few zombie movies that I can actually sit through! “They’re coming to get you, Barbara!”
Parts of that movie were actually filmed closed to my house! That’s the ultimate zombie classic, and pretty much launched the whole sub-genre of horror. Our local PBS station here in Pittsburgh use to show it every year.
And this reminds me that I need to get it on DVD. But not colorized. Screw that!
I don’t know why they colorize classics. Such a waste! And half of them come out awful. Just leave them alone!!
Some more music from a classic Halloween film, and one I watch every year: Hocus Pocus!
This is probably the best song in the movie:
A nice slower song, but quite pretty. Who knew she could sing, and not look like a shoe?
And just a short fun clip from the movie:

Thank you! You loose half the atmosphere they worked very hard to build when you colorize something. They had all sorts of neat lighting and special effects tricks they used in black and white films, and you loose so much of that when you colorize them. I think films should be seen the way they were originally made; the way the directors and producers intended.
I totally agree with you. There is nothing like an old black & white film. I think I’d rather watch a classic than some of the stuff that is out there today - and I usually do!
And I love Hocus Pocus!! A great movie!!
I figured you would like the Hocus Pocus clips. I figured if I didn’t post them, you probably would!
And how did you find out about zombie twittering? That’s suppose to be a closely guarded secret! I demand to know your source so I can punish them appropriately!
When were you guys gonna tell me the directions to the shindig? Ive been waiting at the phone for hours!
Pfft… we told you not to get one of those stupid Tom Tom’s. You’re lucky it didn’t lead you off a cliff!

Sorry dear, I can’t reveal my sources!
And thanks for the Munsters! I was looking for that one!
