Sentai Filmworks Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “TO LOVE RU ~ DARKNESS”

HOUSTON, October 04, 2012 — Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce their latest acquisition: To Love Ru Darkness. The latest follow up to the hit series To Love Ru is directed by Atsushi Ootsuki (Ladies Versus Butlers!) with character designs by Yuichi Ouka (Over Drive TV).

As close encounters of the twisted kind between the residents of the planet Develuke (represented primarily by the female members of the royal family) and the inhabitants of Earth (represented mainly by one very exhausted Rito Yuki) continue to escalate, the situation spirals even further out of control. When junior princesses Nana and Momo transferred into Earth School where big sister Lala can (theoretically) keep an eye on them, things SHOULD be smooth sailing. But when Momo decides she’d like to “supplement” Rito’s relationship with Lala with a little “sisterly love,” you know Lala’s not going to waste any time splitting harems. Unfortunately, it’s just about that point that Yami, the Golden Darkness, enters the scene with all the subtleness of a supernova, along with an army of possessed high school students! All of which is certain to make Rito’s life suck more than a black hole at the family picnic. Unless, of course, a certain semi-demonic princess can apply a little of her Develukean Whoop Ass to exactly that portion of certain other heavenly bodies! It’s “Wham, bam, thank you, Space Ma’am” time once again in TO LOVE RU ~ DARKNESS!

To Love Ru ~ Darkness will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow in 2013.

This one is sitting on my shelf staring at me right now, but it might be a while before I get to it. If nothing else, it has some “interesting” opening credits. I wonder if Sentai will pick up the OVAs as well?

Well, I just finished up watching the first disc of this. It actually reminds me a lot of UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, though I think it might be a notch above that show. It’s actually pretty enjoyable, and the animation is quite good. It’s certainly got it’s share of fan service, and some of it was just out there enough to make me a bit uncomfortable. I can definitely see why Sentai grabbed it.

However, I do have one thing to say about this show:

WOW! There are so many TENTACLES, so many TENTACLES!!!

BTW, if you ever get embarrassed by some of the shows you watch, this might be a good one to watch when no one else is home.

I remember mentioning that in one of the threads a while ago here, people said this was a lot like UFO Ultramaiden (but more risque) and a condensed version of Urusei.

Once I Get some work done this weekend, hopefully, plan to watch all the episodes of this on the AN OP early next week, also got caught behind on Maria Holic due to being busy. Wish I could buy these DVDs as I prefer that method the most.

Yeah, I tend to watch the DVDs when I work out. I just make sure to keep the door closed when I watch this one. I get enough questions about odd dialogue when watching Clannad. I can only imagine what people would think of this one! :side:

Don’t be ashamed. Be proud of your otakuness. Say it out loud.

I LOVE TENTACLES.

Watched the first ep of this on free VOD tonight. Looks like it’s going to be a funny, if just a bit riske, series. Could draw some parallells to World of Narue, as well.

And yeah, even the freaking super duper vaccuum cleaner had tentacles. (I don’t think that’s much of a spoiler, there’s no surprise about seeing it or what it does).

Just watched the first episode and looks like its going to be fun.

Goes to complain to the landlord that no naked aliens show up in my bath.

I am to old to scream like that now, but if someone just shows up in my shower like that… Part of me would be like “Oh…YEAH…” while the rational part would pin the person and I would immediately demand to know “FRIEND OR FOE? EXPLAIN YOURSELF!”

You all are just too funny!

I’m really going to have to watch this one tomorrow.

Episode 1 -

spoiler

It opened with an exciting space chase – can’t go wrong with that!
*
Poor Rito, it seems fate is constantly against him when it comes to telling Haruna he loves her. His best friend tells him that it’s because he isn’t used to girls. A naked space girl appears in the bathtub with him and he’s holding onto her breasts. He can’t stop staring at her, even after letting her go. Best line – “are you finished?”
*
She is Lala from Deviluke and likes to invent things. I liked the way she showed Rito her tail – poor, poor boy! Peke is a costume robot that she made, but it looks as if it’s rather painful when it dresses her.
*
Of course, Rito is a chivalrous male and helps Lala get away from the bad guys. Of course, Haruna sees him with another girl – that is probably going to cause problems eventually.
*
In protecting the lady, he even stands up to a guy named Zastin, thinking he will die for sure, only to find out that Lala is a runaway. She brings out Mr. Roaring Vacuum and it sucks everything up, including Rito, because she forgot how to turn it off. It finally explodes and Rito is just glad that she didn’t use it in his room.
*
The next day, a bandaged Rito walks to school and almost has a fit when Haruna stops him. I’m sure she wants to ask him about the girl from the night before. He interrupts her and finally gets his confession out, telling her that he loves her. But when he looks up, Lala is standing in front of him. She feels the same way about him and wants to get married. Haruna ends up looking shocked.
*
A great way to start a series! I think this will be a good comedy with plenty of funny misunderstandings.

I’ll leave it to LadyOfWicca to summarize ep. 2. It was a tad predictable, but nonetheless funny for it. Now, if only more mail order items had a similar return policy…
