Toonami News & Notes

DeMarco added that Toonami will not be showing Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and similar titles since “the rights to those shows are owned by our competition or are out of our price range.” He continued, “Something you should know about THIS Toonami: We have very, very little $$. This experiment will need ratings success to receive more funding for new shows, more [mascot character] Tom animation, etc. I’m thankful for the $$ we’ve gotten, but it isn’t a lot.”
Had to pull this from 10 months ago just to point out how much things have changed since then. Looks like the Toonami block return was successful enough that they got funding to show Naruto now, for instance. And the new TOM too!
Naruto Shippūden is owned by their competition, so that will likely not be shown.

Toonami to Re-Air IGPX in April
posted on 2013-03-26 23:42 EDT

Toonami announced on Tuesday that it will rerun IGPX on April 27. As a result, it will be “very slightly shuffling the lineup” and will reveal the new schedule later. Toonami will also “relaunch with a new TOM, a new Absolution, and a new on-air look.” IGPX was Toonami’s first original series; it ran as a series of short episodes in 2003, and again as a full series in 2005.
This year has been full of awesome surprises. This is just another date to look forward to. Loved IGPX. It was the first show where CN actually allowed the words bitch and ass.

April 27th line up, straight from their Tumblr:
12:00 – Bleach
12:30 – (Uncut) Naruto
01:00 – Soul Eater
01:30 – Thundercats
02:00 – IGPX (RETURNS!!!)

So, one less Cowboy Bebop, and IGPX is added after Thundercats. Heh, two more weeks of the current TOM.

This does suck. I guess I’ll have to try and watch a few episodes a day until I reach 207. That may not happen, but I’ll try.
Slick

They could at least start back where they left off 168 . Wonder if this is Toei’s doing . This could be that is the episodes start of where Funimation has TV rights.

You may have the right answer, I read on Funi’s site that the Toonami airing is starting after the last of the Disks that they have released. So it may well be that Funi did not have conventional broadcast rights to the earlier episodes.

Funimation had previously stated that Toei had broadcast rights for the show and any TV deals would have to go through them. They actually arranged the original airing on Cartoon Network.

Series premieres next weekend on Adult Swim

Adult Swim’s Toonami block began airing commercials for the One Piece premiere, including a rhyming pirate ad. The series is slated to start on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00 a.m. EDT (effectively Sunday morning).

A second commercial with the redesigned TOM also aired.

The series will start with episode 207, “Great Adventure At Long Ring Long Land!” Toonami confirmed in March that the series would run on the late-night programming block.

I LOVE that promo with the pirate voice. Very creative. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding One Piece’s return even to the point of FUNimation doing something crazy of their own.

So, they’ve lopped off the rest of the Skypeia arc. That makes a lot of sense…

I went down to my folks house this weekend and they are doing a “nielsen TV Viewing Survey” this week, I am going to marathon Toonami this weekend then write it down that we watched the whole Toonami block.

Unless you’re in the 18-34 age range, AS doesn’t really care.
