Video Game News & Discussion 2009-2017

Honestly, I don’t even know why they]re bothering with ripping off Nintendo this late in the game. The motion sensor fad thing is pretty much over, they took way too long to take advantage of it.[/quote]

They probably wanted to invest in it earlier, but they were getting slaughtered with the poor sales of the PS3. Now that their product is much more popular, they can move on to added more peripherals to the market.

I don’t know, I thought the PS3 motes looked awesome. I’ve never seen anything like this.

Slick

It seems like the PS3 motion controller is pretty good. I’m curious to see what the next big thing will be.

It looks a lot like the Wiimote with Wii Motion Plus, but it still looks like fun. I’d like to see them implement these controls into a “hardcore” game as opposed to a more casual one.

What “hardcore” game do you recommend they try?

No idea, I hate to use “casual” and “hardcore” because I see games as just games. I just always hear people promising to deliver to the “hardcore” audience, but the motion sensory controls only seem to appeal to the casuals.

What do people consider hardcore, Demon Souls?

Hmm, its all about perception. I think of the violent games would be good candidates. Any game that requires lots of skills would be interesting to see.

What I raise my eyebrow over is implementing the motion controls to games that are just fine with an analog stick and buttons. Luckily with the Wii, game developers weren’t forced to use motion controls for their games–I’d imagine Brawl would be kinda weird with motion controls. :stuck_out_tongue:

Like, if they used this PS3mote with Uncharted, it’d seem unnatural. They’d have to change the gameplay somehow to make it seem like the motion controls weren’t gimmicky.

Hentai, I agree they would have to change the gameplay. I do enjoy the analog stick and buttons, I wish we could all stick to that instead of trying to get all fancy. People want fat gamers to lose weight and that is how the Wii Fit and all these games were conceived.

I think they did a study somewhere along the lines that said the Wii Fit doesn’t actually provide any benefits, but ya.

I’d like to see what PS3 does with motion control, hopefully we’d get a good fighting game out besides the basic Wii Boxing stuff, that’s about the only real “hardcore” approach I can see being semi worth while.

As for the “hardcore” vs “casual” games, I do believe there can be a pretty substantial difference between the two. It’s fairly safe to say that games like Carnival Games or Wii Sports Resort would be considered casual when compared to FFXIII or Assassins Creed 2, for example.

Sure those are all considered games, but they do have their obvious classification differences. In a way, it would be like saying “There is no difference between Forza Motorsport 3 and God of War 3 because they are both video games,” which is obviously kind of a silly statement.

It has you running around and doing push-ups–Wii Fit has to do something beneficial to your health. Maybe the study meant that it’s inaccurate in tracking progress or something.

Yeah, you can say something is more casual compared to another, but when do you draw the line for the “casual” classification? Some people consider Assassin’s Creed 2 casual (they’re elitists, imo). Some people consider Pokemon hardcore. It’s all relativity I suppose.

I’ve been wondering how I could watch files on my PS3/360 from my laptop, and I’ve finally found a way.

Whenever I’d have Vuze open on my MacBook, I’d always see an icon for it on my PS3’s XMB. WELL, I stumbled upon a YouTube video that explains how to stream movies/music/pictures from your computer to your PS3/360. It’s extremely easy, and all you need is Vuze.

Here’s the tutorial:

Now I don’t have to huddle around the laptop with my gf whenever we want to watch movies on my laptop.

immahappycamper :side:

Also, she says it’s a good idea to use SD when converting files to be streamed, but I’ve used HD for both video and music files, and I’ve experienced no lag.

Edit: Seems like you can’t view photos (at least on the PS3) using this method. It’s too bad, I wanted to look at some boss pictures on my TV.

For my PS3 I just use this program: http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list. They have version in Windows, Mac, and Linux, so it’s fairly well supported. My friend installed it on his mac (tiger) with no problems, and it’ll stream pretty much anything on the computer. Though I have mine limited to just my music, video, and picture folders. Mostly because I don’t want people going through all the files on my computer, and that it’s easier to get to my files that way anyway instead of starting at the C:drive.

I think this may be my favorite of the newer PS3 commercials.

I really wish I could play my Star Trek: Judgment Rites game ,but its not worked with anything since Windows 95 and even then it was just barely. Someone really needs to re-release that game and Star Trek: 25th Anniversary that will work with newer windows.

Star Trek: Judgment Rites was the last time DeForest Kelly ever played the role of Leonard McCoy.

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode? In win7 you can just right click the .exe file, click properties, then hit the tab for compatibility, and you should have several options going back to at least win95. The only game that I’ve actually tried this with was Bioshock, and that didn’t work, but I’d like to see if it works with a game that wasn’t known for having issues running with or without a compatible OS in the first place.

Yeah, that’s how I got DS to work finally with my Win7.
Ironically enough, I actually had to choose compatible with Vista to get it to run properly.

Well it’s certainly interesting, that’s for sure.

Are you still sticking with IE though?

Of course!
I’m a firm believer of: If it works, don’t fix it.
And IE works just fine for my use, so there’s no reason to switch.

I applaud you for posting this.

I literally lol’d the first time I saw that commercial on TV.
