Your recently legal bought ADV/Sentai/Happy Carrot/Switchblade/Maiden Japan Media

Shipped:
Dream Eater Merry Blu-ray Complete Collection (Hyb) $37.79

With that all of my March Sentai orders are either here or on it’s way.

Today my bluray of Mardock shipped. Depending on when the usps gets it here from Iowa I might be able to watch it through before the actual street date.

Ordered from RightStuf today:

Pretear DVD Collection (Hyb) (Thinpak)

Not the license rescued one.

Mark Gosdin

Arrived Today: Directors’ Cut Blu-Ray of Mardock Scramble

The combined bit-rate for sound and video is around 30Mbps. So why aren’t we all streaming like this? My internet connection is mid-range and I could stream 2 such streams simultaneously.

And arrived today from RightStuf today:

Pretear DVD Collection (Hyb) (Thinpak)

Fast RightStuf. Happy me.

Wow, that is fast. What shipping did you choose and how close to their warehouse are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Normally I use the free shipping option (I know it doesn’t really make that much sense) which takes about 5-7 days, and when I use ups it has been 3-5 days, depending on whether or not I ordered right before a weekend. It looks like you ordered right before a weekend and still got it in ~3 days, which is why I’m astounded.

Wow, the show only costs 8 bucks?! I can’t say that I’ve really heard of it. Too bad isn’t streaming here on TAN.

It’s a older title ADV released here. They picked up I think back in 2003 and recently Funimation rescued it which is why it’s not here… Still a ton of ADV’s thinpaks of it floating around thus the price Rightstuf wants.

Thanks. I know the OP said that it was the non-rescued release version he bought, but I forgot when I only saw the sentai version on rightstuf. Shoulda checked before I posted, especially when there are 2 types of rescued licenses concerning Sentai.

Yet another adv dub that I haven’t heard of and another show I haven’t watched. Being a fan is a Sisyphean task.

I use the free shipping option too and I’ve never seen it go this fast before.

I ordered one other DVD this past Friday from Amazon Prime (USPS Priority) which left Reno, Nevada Friday evening the same as the RightStuf (USPS Parcel Post) order left Des Moines, Iowa. Both traveled to me in Kissimmee, Florida over the weekend in what amounted to less than the advertised two business days for USPS Priority.

I’m not complaining, I certainly got good value from both orders.

I’ve been digging thru RightStuf’s discount bins for anything that I liked but missed getting or I think would be good to have - like Pretear. I know that they’ve already taken a hit on the pricing, but I believe it is still good to get some money into RightStuf’s hands and the old inventory out of the warehouse.

I understand prowling the bargain bin for old gems, but sadly it has been pretty well picked already. Some joker took all the copies of Madlax 6, Gilgamesh 2, DNAngel 1, or the chrono crusade discs with commentaries, for example. Things that will never come back and aren’t readily available elsewhere.

Of course, I can’t really complain too much about that as I’m one of the guys who bought one of the now sold out Mushishi autographed lithograph :D.

I think the only thing left for me in their bargain bin is The Soultaker, if I remember correctly. Sadly I seem to watch everything after it is long sold out. It’s a curse.

Problem with the Bargain bin when it comes to old ADV and Geneon titles (I think Funimation singles at one time) is Rightstuf a couple years back at least twice a year had these Bargain Bin Blowout sales or Abundance sales. Stuff was either discounted to 4.00 or less or during the Abundance sales stuff would be 10 DVD’s for $50 or 25 DVD’s for $100. Stuff was selling out in the first hour or two and some of them had well over 2000 copies. A good bit of my older Geneon release came from those. ADV not quite as much as I’d been getting stuff as it came out a lot of times. I did get a good bit just not as much as the Geneon sales. I still remember the mail lady bring 4 huge boxes of stuff. Then my poor fingers hurting from taking all those plastic wraps and security labels off. Then also a good amount of stuff came from FYE , Suncoast , and Saturday Matinee when they had these buy one get one free and half off all Geneon releases that stacked on top of my at the time 10% off. I got Gilgamesh vol.2 signed by Shelley Calene-Black as a gift and the rest came from the bargain bin when they were getting rid of the singles cheap. Probably have never gotten them if not for getting 2 signed as a gift. You can’t seem to find as many deals as you use to be able to because of them not printing as large of runs and no more singles.

I’m actually more broken up now that you told me that you’ve gotten Gilgamesh signed by Shelly Calene-Black. Lucky. It’s bad enough that I missed Adv’s alcohol-laden theatrical premiere of the show, but I didn’t even know that a signed copy was an option. Did it cone presigned or did someone track her down and persuade her to sign the copy? The curiosity is brutal lol. On the show, I still am disappointed with the ending revelation of the series, but I rather liked it. The extras where Paul Oddo wonders why he’s always cast as a villain and then goes on to discuss how he enjoyed kicking Luci Christian down the stairs (in the show) was pretty funny.

The ever-dwindling amount of bargains on rightstuf is depressing, but what really worries me is how we’ve lost entire series, even shows that have supposedly been rescued, like Ergo Proxy.

Surprisingly I’ve seen better-than-rightstuf bargains regularly at cons, like the entire boxed collection of Le Chevalier D’Eon for 25 untaxed dollars. Sadly I didn’t pick it up as I already had the funi rerelease and at that time I didn’t know about the extras that were adv only, like the David Matranga/Taylor Hannah crossplay on DVD 2. Plus I wasn’t really enamored with the show; on a tangent I’d say that Gilgamesh was superior.

We bought a bundle of everything Patlabor at the Megacon three years ago for just shy of $50.

The Megacon and Cons in general can be feast or famine. This year wasn’t bad I got one complete season from Funimation and finished another from Media Blasters. However, last year was a bust as far as Anime was concerned.

Sometimes you just have to keep looking, which to return to the subject means watching for more Sentai releases.

Mark Gosdin

I have to admit that I haven’t seen the 3rd patlabor movie and that, while I enjoyed the whole franchise, I preferred the dubbed show over all other facets. It pains me that the ova was only dubbed to EP 7 or so as I just can’t watch it in Japanese. Ota, the best character IMO, is vastly superior in English.

Some day I’ll find the missing DVDs and boxes for my collection and see legendary adv extras like the sock puppet theater. Until then, I’ll continue streaming or buying their modern stuff to prevent having this same problem with now-modern Sentai releases years down the road. Gotta keep getting stuff to get signed.

The 3rd Patlabor movie is not really a Patlabor movie as they only briefly appear at the end.

I was told that it was “law and order with token labors” so I stayed away. It saddens me that all of the movies and the show were dubbed by different casts. If memory serves, New Generation and (ew) BangZoom regular Kate Thompson/Megan Hollingshead was in at least one of the movies.

Someday I should get another set of patlabor stuff. It was a fun, and more realistic (if you will) mech series. It was no Gasaraki but it was no Gundam either. Plus I want to support, albeit too late, the studio which dubbed the TV series. Any studio which holds a competition at a con to find a new minor VA and supports booze gets props from me.

On topic, bought ef melodies (I have the discs, why isn’t it streaming here yet?) and pre ordered golgo 13 volume 4.

Well since it is a sequel to Memories, it probably makes sense to wait till that one finishes before starting Melodies.

??! This show has been out on DVD and blu-ray for weeks upon weeks now. We got it signed at Katsucon almost a month ago now. How is the whole thing not yet streaming?! Is this to help motivate people to keep buying the physical releases?

I don’t understand. :frowning:

^The Street date for Melodies is next Tuesday. Memories has been out for months though.

Ef-A Tale of Melodies
Innocent Venus Volumes 1-3 + Artbox
Mardock Scramble: The First Compression (Director’s Cut)

On Order:
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
Infinite Stratos Complete Collection
K-On Season 2 Part 1
Kurenai Complete Collection

I’ve already seen all of Melodies (sadly only on DVD). Street dates are only for companies that aren’t rightstuf

It’ll be months after the street date before it makes it here in its entirety. Kinda a game changer when I bought the DVDs of things like golgo 3-4 but just intended to stream them to actually watch them.

It’s more brutal than the other company’s streaming policy, but it makes more sense.
