The completist and absurdist in me hereby posts one last wrinkle to the sad Ballad of Pastel Memories 11 & 10, in case you’re on Spectrum/TW and you’re just dying to watch #10 before it expires, or you’re simply a connoisseur of all the seemingly endless little weird convolutions and contortions they go through:
I figured it out (again). What they’ve done now is merge the new copy of #11 into the old copy of #11 on On Demand. This displaced #10 on Cutting Edge. Which means that if you want to watch #10, you’ll have to in via On Demand and Ye New Kludge, since now Ye Olde Kludge on Cutting Edge is only good if you have a burning desire to choose between #11-with-promo and #11-without-promo. (Which might make you even weirder than me!) Ye New Kludge lets you choose between #10 and #11-with-promo on On Demand..
And that’s a wrap on the latest round of mergers and inquisitions. (“I kloodge–you decide.”)

Too much new-anomalous-but-very-boring stuff to report, so just another long short version:
All scheduled episodes received on Cutting Edge; everything except Tsurune #7 received on On Demand. And Chunibyo #8 is now back on On Demand. Is It Wrong #1, Chunibyo #9, and Tsurune #6 remain without promos, which might actually be for the best, considering the following…
Okay, now to commence with The Boring. We’ll ease into it with more of Donovan’s refrain reframed:
(A) “First Is It a mountain?/ Then Is It two mountains?/ Or Is It three?”
(B) “First there is a Basquatch,/ Then there is two Basquatch,/ And one of them is two.”
[C] “First there is a Namu,/ Then there’s two more Namu/ And one splits in two.”
In trying to fix the Missing Promo Problem, they’ve been sending out flurries of duplicate copies which have promos, and then deleting the old copies which do not, etc., etc. Now pay attention, class, or the Sphinx will eat you. What do you think is likely to happen if you have lots of duplicate episodes with the same identifying numbers lying around the system? Raise your hands if you know the answer. Only one person? Anyone else other than the brown-nosing tedious little toad? No? [sigh] Very well. Jababbi?

Okay, down to business. We now have seven sets of merged episodes, spread across three different patterns of mergers. (Hence the three refrains.) That’s a lot. But they’re insignificant mergers, since (1) it’s all sets of iterations of the same episodes, so (2) there’s no problem watching any of the episodes, since one copy or another will start up when you choose the episode from the list–be it on Cutting Edge or On Demand. It’s not like you can’t access the content. (3) The only difference is the presence or absence of the promo, and the absence of a promo doesn’t seem to be creating the same freezing/skipping problem on TW/Spectrum that other systems are experiencing. (4) These are newfangled mergers, where the old kludges don’t apply, and where I still haven’t figured out how I’m triggering the unmerging. (Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem too hard to do–sometimes it almost seems as though it happens by itself on a time delay.) Still, an anomaly is an anomaly, and the extra lines do take up a lot of space in your In Progress list, so
Pattern A: Is It Wrong…? #2: Three “Is It Wrong” lines in the In Progress list , one of which plays the episode with promo, two of which play the episode without promo.
Pattern B: Basquatch #5: Two title lines in the In Progress list, one of which plays the episode with the promo, the other of which gives you two sets of “Resume Play/Restart” and a “Back to List.” One set of Resume/Restart plays the episode with promo, the other plays the episode without promo. Basquatch #6, UQ Holder #1, and UQ Holder #2 also fit this pattern.
Pattern C: Namu #5: Three title lines in the In Progress list, one of which plays the episode with the promo, one of which plays the episode without the promo, and one of which gives you two sets of “Resume Play/Restart”, etc., one set for the episode with promo, the other for the episode without. Namu #6 also fits this pattern.
Unless something changes, or some one of you (I can’t imagine there’d be two) out there really, really wants me to–or we (ugh!) get dealt yet another set of significant mergers–I don’t plan on bothering to untangle this any further. I’ll report it, shorthand style, but otherwise let the topic of mergers rest for a good long while–I’m really tired of this stuff, which must mean the rest of you are utterly sick onto death of it. (Sorry!)
Just one more thing–I finally got around to watching Dimension High last night, and I seem to have some defective episodes–they seem to be rather badly written, acted and drawn. Could AN please send out fresh copies of these episodes, but with better actors and dialogue and art?

Quite the opposite. I was even more sleep-deprived, and therefore even sillier and more judgment-impaired than usual. So the post came easily. It was testing and untangling the episodes and determining all the variations that was the tough slog.

Another full pull this week. Now, on to the skipping issue - quite a bit of progress to report this week…
Of the 14 episodes expected this week (Aug. 20), only 1 was missing the TAN intro/outro (Chunibyo #10), and it’s the first ep I’ve observed that was missing the intro/outro and did ** not ** skip. Also, received several “corrected” episodes from previous weeks. Many of these corrected episodes, along with several of this weeks eps appear multiple times, mostly in multiples of three - two of which are missing intro/outro, the third containing them. Of these sets of three, I only completely watched the version with the intro/outro to confirm that there were no skips. As of this writing (Aug. 23), I have not yet observed an ep that contained the TAN intro/outro that skipped.
So. Here is my cumulative list of 7 episodes still missing intro/outro, and still skipping:
- Basquatch #3, #4 (#1, #2, #5, #6 all had 3 eps sent, 1 each had intro/outro and no skips)
- Chunibyo #9 (#7 fixed, #10 had no intro/outro, but no skips either)
- Dimension H.S. #4
- Girls In A Dungeon #1 (#2 had 3 eps sent, 1 had intro/outro and no skips)
- Namuamidabutsu! -Utena- #2 (#3, #4 all had 3 eps sent, 1 each had intro/outro and no skips)
- Tsurune #6 (#4, #5 fixed. #7 had 3 eps sent, 1 had intro/outro and no skips)
These two shows no longer have any episodes that skipped. - Pastel Memories (#11 fixed. #10 expired w/o being fixed, AFAIK)
