As of today, 8/13 @ 1:50 pm, there was a reduction in some series SD or HD episodes, see below. Based on the post from @Slowhand, I have removed all SD entries under the “Problem” section. Sorry, playing in pain today, so just The short version plus the trademarked typical totally irrelevant comment to establish that it’s really me and not some impostor:

All of this week’s scheduled episodes have arrived on Cutting Edge and On Demand. However, Chunibyo #8 has disappeared from On Demand, though it’s still on Cutting Edge. This scourge of rampant indecency and immorality, of episodes parading about naked without AN promos or even Groaning Mecha Bras and Ominous Voice Panties (what, you thought it was just a coincidence every episode ends with a giant eyeball?) is spreading, with Basquatch #3 & #4, Chunibyo #9, Dim High #4, Namu…butsu #2 and Is It Wrong…? (yes it is) #1 all joining the others. Where will it end?

Irrelevant Comment (in case that wasn’t enough): So I finally cleared some time for the two-part finale of Pastel Memories, ran through the kludge, watched…and my reaction was, "I put in all that work…for this? (I will leave it at that, and spare you the rest of my lengthy critique.)

Another full pull this week. Now, on to the skipping issue…
Of the 14 episodes expected, fully half (7) were missing the TAN intro/outro, and all of these contained at least two audio/visual skips. An oddity: Namuamidabutsu! -Utena- #1 included the intro/outro and played without incident, while episode #2 lacked the intro/outro and skipped multiple times. Also FWIW, the two “corrected” episodes that I reported back on Wednesday (Chunibyo #8 and Dimension H.S. #3) remained under the “Missed It? Watch Now!” tab. At the time of this writing (Friday afternoon), I’ve noticed no other corrected episodes.
So. Here is my cumulative list of 15 episodes still missing intro/outro, and still skipping:

  • Basquatch #1, #2, #3, #4
  • Chunibyo #7, #9 (#5 expired Aug. 14, #6 & #8 fixed)
  • Dimension H.S. #4 (#3 fixed)
  • Girls In A Dungeon #1
  • Namuamidabutsu! -Utena- #2 (only!)
  • Pastel Memories #10, #11 (#9 fixed and has expired)
  • Tsurune #4, #5, #6 (#3 fixed)
  • Ushio and Tora #39 (#37 and #38 fixed)

To answer @Slowhand’s question: Both audio and video skip - I have not observed one without the other. Audio has always re-sync’d with video after a skip.

They (the intro and outro) were only on ONE episode of K-ON SD edition for me. (Yes. One episode out of all the series uploaded since they restarted broadcast to Xfinity)

I can only speak for DirecTV, but we’ve had 'em going back at least to 2010. Same outro all the time. When I first started watching, intros were tied to the particular anime’s category (Action Zone, Girl Power, SuperHappyFunTime), then I think were replaced by the Gundam-in-the-lake intro that continues today. Promos were/are a sometimes thing.
Personally, I find intros/outros useful because (at least in my experience with DTV) there’s always seems to be a second or so lost at the beginning of an episode. The intro and/or promo did a good job in soaking that up, so that nothing of importance was lost.
@SpaceCobraJoe has been posting here longer than I have - maybe his memory’s better than mine…

I think you’re right. When Frontier had the three categories, as you mentioned, there were intros. When they changed to one catagory and put all episodes under the “Anime” the intros and promos went away.

Well, young’uns, once upon an even longer time ago, when I first started watching AN on Time Warner, the episodes began with actual regular live-action commercials for various “As Seen on TV”-type products. (They tried this approach again–but with slicker commercials–when HDIVE first started up and was free. I wish HDIVE still had a “spend time and attention in lieu of money” option available–that made it quite useful as a backstop for just those occasions when AN failed to get an episode to us before its expiration date…or the rare periods when the FVOD plus Toonami offerings aren’t enough due to too many repeats or shows I’m otherwise not interested in.)

Well, as part of the group that used to listen to Casey Kasem top 40 on AM radio, we use to watch anime on Frontier on the Funimation channel. As soon as Toku took over they ran some anime in the beginning. Their library is very limited because they kept running the same shows over and over. Then they only ran them from 9pm to 12am, except on Sundays when they ran 8pm to 2am. Now, they are all live action shows, no more anime. I think the licenses ran out. I can find most shows now on the three main anime apps, HiD, Crnchy and Funim.

Yes, I believe you are correct. Before Frontier replaced AT&T Uverse we saw our anime on Adult Swim and Toonami on CN, Anime Unleashed on G4 (TechTV). A few of my favorites aired back in early to mid 2000’s like:

(Continuing the string of appropriate old rock/pop lyrics I seem to have stumbled into.)

Okay, last night Tsurune #4 & #5, Basquatch #1 & #2, and other episodes disappeared, and now they’re back. I assumed it was to fix the missing promos, intros and extros, so I checked them, and it turns out some of them were fixed and some weren’t. And some of them never made it back to the On Demand side, even though they’re back on Cutting Edge.

Here’s the current state of play:

Basquatch #1 & #2 disappeared, now they’re back on Cutting Edge but not On Demand, not fixed;

Chunibyo #7 disappeared, now it’s back on Cutting Edge but not On Demand, fixed;

Chunibyo #8, which was missing on On Demand from before, is still only on Cutting Edge;

Tsurune #4 & #5 disappeared, now they’re back on Cutting Edge but not On Demand, #4 is fixed, #5 is not fixed;

Ushio & Tora #39 disappeared, now it’s back on Cutting Edge but not On Demand, fixed;

A second copy of Pastel Memories #11 which seems to be just #11 has appeared on Cutting Edge, complete with promo. But only one copy is on On Demand, which initially seemed to the new, clean, unmerged copy, but now appears to be the old merged copy; I don’t know what’s going on there yet…

Extra Credit: Identify the Zen song lyrics I mangled for the lead-in. (20 points)
