The short version:
Everything has arrived on both Cutting Edge and On Demand and everything starts up fine this week. But now there are two members of the Decently Clad Club–Mysterious Girlfriend X #11 has joined Beyond the Boundary #10. But you knew that was bound to happen, didn’t you? Groaning-Mecha-print or not, bikini bottom or not, clothing is still clothing, and they’re all evil alien parasites…(You realize we could actually make Groaning-Mecha-print bikini bottoms–or panties, for you pervy anime purists–that groaned when exposed to light, using off-the-shelf tech from audio greeting cards and photoelectric cells. Just a thought for you last-minute Christmas shoppers looking for the perfect gift likely to offend, or at least earn you sad and dubious looks and the award for The Gift Least Likely to Earn a Sincere “Just what I always wanted!” and Most Likely to Elicit a Genuinely Sincere, “Oh, you shouldn’t have!” from your girlfriend–or boyfriend, as the case may be. Alas, I doubt they’re available with actual Moving Mecha animation–I don’t think flexible fabric liquid crystal displays for the animation is currently up to snuff. But I may be behind the curve, here…) Seeing her with scissors at the ready, our ten Streaker Society stalwarts frantically stalled for time by quickly mocking up a “To Be Continued Next Week” sign.
Last week’s problems with fast forward and rewind are gone, thank goodness. The general wonkiness that’s been been evident the last few weeks is still here. It takes the form of a lag time between when you push the button and when the player actually does what you’ve asked. For example, you hit Fast Forward, the time track displays, and then you wait for the episode to actually start fast-forwarding. The lag is up to three seconds long, or half that if you’ve just rebooted. I haven’t mentioned this before because I thought this was just the fault of TW Spectrum’s player and therefore nothing to trouble AN about, but given last week there may be something about AN’s bundling that partially contributes to this. I don’t know.
