CH. 1889 Anime Network Outage Since October.

Just a note to remind DTV that I and other DTV users STILL have not been able to access most content on the VOD channel 1889 - The Anime Network - since roughly the last week of September, 2023.

Anime Network content stopped arriving normally with the update scheduled for September 28. No content at all was received for several weeks in October, and in fact the channel has completely disappeared from the Guide on numerous occasions since then. When it has returned, content has been sporadic and woefully incomplete.

Please see the thread started by user @gwhelan on October 31 for the initial reporting of the problem. These things are happening to me as well, and since DTV has gone to DM to continue the thread, I can no longer follow it, thus this thread.

Ordinarily, I report incidents of missing content to Anime Network user forums, who are pretty good at resolving issues. However, even with weekly reporting of the missing content, the only progress made has been the sporadic loading of some content - and that content has occasionally been hidden, as in it took a general search to find because it was not listed on the channel 1889 page.

TAN personnel have reported on their forums as of Dec. 4 that:

"Received some info from iNDemand: (iNDemand is the third party that we send the content to & they deliver to all of the separate DirecTV stations)

“Our team is still working diligently to create and test the new distribution requirements with DirecTV. I can assure you that it is at the top of our IT team’s list and we all would like to get back to the usual flow of AN content on DirecTV as soon as possible! It seems like many of these issues listed are problems with their site’s functionality. I will reach out to them to see if they’ve made any changes on their end that may affect this. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.”

The next scheduled content load is tomorrow, December 14. We’re getting close to a full calendar quarter now with effectively no content, and I don’t like writing stern letters.

It is long past time for someone to figure this stuff out.

I would also like to hear DTV’s action plan to either restore the three month’s worth of content lost so far from this outage, or reimburse us for the lost value thereof.

Hardware: HR44-200 with Gemini, connected to satellite and home wi-fi internet.

I meant that it isn’t TAN’s technical problem, it most CERTAINLY IS a problem for TAN, but nothing they can actually except keep calling. TAN is sending the content, but DirecTV isn’t getting it loaded for whatever reason.

Some minor changes around the edges, but none of the expected 12/14 content has arrived as of Sunday afternoon.
Fate/Stay Night 2 and Embodiment/Shadow 2 seem to have disappeared and Master/No Tail 9 and Tsurune/Movie 1 now appear under Super Happy Fun Time.
16 programs in all.

Here’s the current set of weeks:

11/30 received Fate/Stay 5 + 6, Hakumei 7, Prima Doll 11, Princess Res. 3, Tsurune (movie), all else missing

12/7 all content is missing

12/14 all content is missing

I believe this is how things are looking at this point. I’ll keep an eye out for any new content that shows up.

Update: Since posting that message on DTV’s forum back on Dec. 13, I have received absolutely NO RESPONSE from DTV whatsoever - not even a “go pound sand, we already know” message.

Finally got response from the DTV forum, by two separate users who apparently are very active. Both told me that the forum was not for actual support, but if a DTV support guy happened to see a post and took an interest, they’d initiate a DM conversation, which appears to be what happened with @Whaler58’s post. As of this writing, it does not appear that my post has made that cut. I suppose that’s understandable, as I did refer to @Whaler58’s post.

Of some interest - one of them also suggested opening a contact with the Better Business Bureau. Question for @Slowhand and/or other lurking TAN mods/brass: are you aware of any BBB involvement in these types of issues? I’ve been around for a while, but this may be the first time I’ve heard their name mentioned.

They do not have support by email. If the official forum help team takes an interest they may send you a Direct/Private Message (DM/PM) in the forum, which you get notified by email when a new message is waiting. If they do, then make sure to respond the same day as it closes otherwise.

With a BBB complaint, traditionally you get a call so I would mention your hearing issues that some sort of written communication is preferred (or at least to be prepared to accommodate with the call as best they can).

Two things. 1. There’s been some activity on ch 1889 since I last looked 3 days ago. The “Missed It? Watch Now” header actually has 3 programs, but they’re simply listed with the series titles without the episode numbers that normally would appear. Other programs are listed under their respective categories (AZ/GP/SHFT) with the episode titles and numbers, but not the series title.
2. I posted a complaint on DTV’s Facebook site, and got a DM in response earlier today. I have replied with an overview of what I’ve seen tonight, and asked what more info I could provide (photos of screens, etc.). More to come.

More from DTV: Finally got a little meat tonight - they asked me what I was seeing presently, that from what they could see they currently had 22 programs available out of a total of 30. That doesn’t match my count of 52 from @slowhand’s most recent schedule posts (including today’s), and I told them so. I also cut/pasted together a list of those 4 schedules, marking those programs that I could see on their menus. I also noted that they were still showing programs that have passed their 4-week availability period and should’ve dropped off their menus. Hopefully that gives them something good to work from.
