Aang’s legacy as a parent is perhaps the biggest trigger for fans in all of Korra . The idea that he was not the best father is too rich of a storyline to only be briefly discussed.
I’d say that is part of what annoyed the fans. I know that I wanted to know what happened to the happy-go-lucky fun kid Aang once he grew up, and nothing about the first series suggested to me that he’d grow up to be a bad dad who was so bad he gave his son a complex.
Why couldn’t Aang have been a good father who raised his son Tenzin right? Maybe Tenzin could have been more serious than his dad was, to make him a different character, say, but just dunking on a fan-favorite character was not putting the show’s best foot forward.
To its credit and benefit, Korra was certainly a more mature series. Korra had…stop an imperialist Earth Kingdom conqueror.
I thought Aang had to stop an imperialist Fire Nation conqueror?

It does? The article makes it seem like headcanon..? The article mentions the comic trying to retcon a relationship, though I believe the “Firefly Rule” is that when a tie-in comic breaks the continuity of a show, the comic is the one considered not canon.
