Meh. I forgot the first episode was this slow. Wasn’t really interested until the end when Hagino went to the ship thing. I know it has to pick up later. And about the dub cast - the only one I really like right now is Tiffany Grant. I was right about my thoughts of Hilary Haag. I’m not sure yet if she will be a good fit for Mari. I honsetly would ahve rather had Monica Rial play her part. I think Shelly Calen-Black would have been a good Hagino. And Jessica Boone as Michiko!

Let’s face it, Zaku. How else were you going to get into the meat of the action? Watching this episode for the second time while having the knowledge of the entire series behind you, I’ve realized what happened when Hagino touched Mari. It seemed to be a flashback to the psychotic rage the Emil drive induced in the residents of Kamikakushi Island that precipitated the massacre. Watching that scene now, knowing about the real reason for the massacre, it puts an entity different spin on the actions of Hagino.
Hilary Haag is perfect as Mari, as I thought she would be. Personally, I don’t know how I feel about Monica as Hagino yet, though she’s not bad. I do agree that Jessica Boone would have been perfect in this, but too bad she isn’t voice acting in Houston anymore.
So far, it’s a pretty good dub, and I look forward to rewatching the rest of the show.

Oh my bad…
I didn’t read the title correctly. Thanks for the clarification Slowhand!
It’s up now.
Thanks again for clearing it up
But as for the first ep, I have to agree it was pretty boring since I have already seen it before. I thought Hilary Haag as Mari was the right choice. But Hagino’s voice actor did not fit her that well.
Just watched the first dubbed episode on the online player. I enjoyed it much more the second time around. That just reaffirms my love of dubbed anime. I’ll take either, but a dub is nice. Thanks TAN and Section 23.
Slick
Okay episode 2. Warming up to the English dub. Tiffany Grant’s performance continues to shine while the rest of the cast is meh. I guess I’ve come closer to liking Hilary Haag as Mari, but I think Monica Rial would have fit the role better.
I’m really glad that this is back on VOD to be enjoyed again. It’s a wonderful story and the music is so beautiful, especially the piano. And the dub is great!
I’m feeling better about Mari’s voice, but I really hope Monica Rial’s performance as Hagino improves. Also, did anyone else notice how she switches between accent and no accent depending on whether she is at school or talking to the aliens? Or is that me noticing things that aren’t there?
I think the accents indicate their native language. I agree with Newshawk, Hagino is under cover at a school where she would be speaking Japanese. I think that’s the reason for the different accents.
Episode 5 –
Mari’s reaction is hysterical in the scene when the dorm chief comes in the room and sits on Tsubael’s image. Then Tsubael pops her head out of the dorm chief’s stomach!
Episode 6 –
It’s sad that Mari feels betrayed by someone she began to see as a mother figure, but it’s good that she comes to terms with it and wants Yuko to stay and continue as her teacher. I also love the dramatic fight in this episode with the backdrop of the festival fireworks.
I just want to know one thing- What was she thinking taking on an alien probe with a Walther PPK? That is either a .32 or a .380-neither known as a powerful round.
