I have no idea. I always just thought they were trashy lawn decoration.
Itâs been a long time since Iâve seen grasshoppers as the chickens here have driven them to extinction. I have a suspicion that a mutant grasshopper like that might be beyond their capabilities, but I could be surprised.
I find it funny that the only BDs I own are anime or LegoâŚ

My condolences my dear. Like I had told you, it is good that she is no longer suffering and she resides in a much better place now. Things have been so sad lately and it seems to be touching us all. I am very sorry and just remember to look to the good times you had with her when you were little. I believe someday that we will rejoin our loved ones, pets included, once we pass.

Anime Planet just got screwed up, and now looks like just another Facebook wanna-be piece of trash that is there for pretty, not function that is even WORSE than this Joomla crap!
What is wrong with the world people trying to make everything pretty, and not understand that simple rule âform follows functionâ? Mouseover and hover crap to popup everywhere, cant find anything in the âWhereâs Waldoâ amount of cluttered art, having to scroll for years to be ble to get to anything because of bad page layout. The old one has short bits you could easily find but this one doesnât even have borders around the sections!
The only 2 things I get use out of now is the way it changed your anime list. Single click now takes you to Watched, Watching, want to Watch, etc without having to click âapply filtersâ, and I found out I have a stalker.
Wicca i following me! I didnât even know it did that because⌠well it is just a list to me and that is all I wanted. Donât mind other people wanting those follow and facebook type things, but it used to be a damn good site to let you list the anime you have watched or are watching that is kept up-to-date on new shows and old alike. Now it might as well be called Anime-Facebook because it is trying to do WAY too much.
Anyone know a replacement for Anime Planet now that is just a place with a lot of anime titles listed, so you can make a list of your anime without having to know the Japanese name for shows in Romanji?
Why canât people learn those 3 simple rules to all things in life?

(There is a 4th, but I donât think RTFM works in this case, because they threw out âTFMâ when they got rid of everything useful and no longer a leader in simple and clean web-design but just another cluttered social media mess!)
Throwing in an obnoxious amount of CSS and JavaScript, to the point that UI functionality is impaired and power and memory (especially on mobile devices) are horribly wasted, is what all the âcool kidsâ in website development are doing.
Funimationâs site is so bloated that it is a pain to use on PC and a literal pain on mobile as its pointless bloat causes my mobile devices to become hand warmers.
JavaScript + CSS bloat are todayâs version of yesteryearâs 100% Flash based website.
Agreed, simple is better. Everyone pretty much knows this, but simple does not keep those high cost designers and specialized programmers employed. So there is way too much pressure to do needless things to web sites, not to mention over-engineering cars, phones, appliances and a host of other daily essentials.
Like many others I try and avoid those examples of flash-in-the-pan tech as much as possible. I just recently bought a smart phone to replace my 6 year old bar phone. I donât really need any of the extras that the smart phone does, but in this case it was a matter of the old hardware just wearing out.

CSS alone is not that bad (I havenât met a site with so much CSS slow down a site to be noticeable yet). Itâs the Javascript everyone trying to forced on us that causes the pages to be slow as hell (even more so when itâs the JS doing the layout, main reason I HATE the mobile frameworks I seen), also, the page itself on those slow sites the HTML is in the MBs of size seems like anyway.
You can disable JS when hitting my site, and not notice a change (unless youâre on a version of IE that need the HTML5 Shiv stuff). I wrote my site as lynx/links (Linux users without a GUI installed will love me for that) first, then mobile, then desktop
And infinite scrolling, I HATE that feature.
 You wrote a website in modern days for a text-based browser? Lynx is what BSD and Unix uses for a browser.

I see what you mean. I think it must have changed only yesterday. Iâm not happy with the new layout either, but I suppose everything changes to keep up with the times and we arenât given a choice in the matter.
A simple site with just a list would be nice without getting into all the other information. I donât like the âMy Anime Listâ one either. It would be nice if there was some kind of simple list attached to this site.
As for stalking you - I deny it completely! LOL Well, at least it seems I am stalking you as well as a few others now. Anime Planet changed âfriendsâ to âfollowingâ. Then again, even their old way of âfriendsâ was a bit odd.
But I guess until something better comes along, we are stuck with the new Anime Planet.
Yesterday when I was getting ready to watch that momo kyu sword it went completely strange. sadly we have no choiuce as two things stick out to me there from the thread about the changes
- add facebook connectivity to login with facebook (well that explains the changes right there!)
- the old layout will NOT be coming back.
so that is what MAL everyone is talking about on those forums means? âMy Anime Listâ?
i didnât even remember about the friends thing so no worries. jsut never really use that, especially over there. TAN is my forum for discussing all things anime, AP, was jsut a site with some info and a place i could make a list. now it doesnât function for that and its export feature never worked soâŚback to using Lotus for anime tracking! Guess Horo down there will get lonely stuck at 10 months, until they break that too and ruin so many websites that people have to change the signature on. ![]()
Correct.

Yea, I START with that, then add CSS to âupgradeâ the look of the site. Helps out when you want to participate in http://naked.threepixeldrift.com/. (I need to add that script to my site one day)
Found an article on the Anime Planet change that gave me a bit of a chuckle -

Well they partnered with CR a while back so it doesnât surprise me that they just turned into a frontpage for them to get more ad$ and crappy look. add that to wanting to connect with facebook and such. it is as pathetic as this Joomla and Kurenanana crap here. Change to being a social network jsut to be a social network because âeveryone else was doing itâ. Truly pathetic if tha tis the reasoning for doing something. Sadly it ruined the site AP was.
Maybe we should find a way to replicate it. I mean it really only needs a list of anime, those few settings, and the number of episodes. big database, but simple functions and little to no javascript needed to make a damn list.
There is even people now that cannot figure out how to search the site for anime. That right there shows had badly designed it is, because if someone cant figure out how to use your site, you failed making it.
This quote, from the putative founder of AnimePlanet, in the comments of the linked CR thread seems to address your complaint lol
Perhaps it wasnât the goal of the redesign but itâll be a hard sell convincing me, or anyone who views the new AP, that it wasnât a goal of the redesign.

Too true. The new AP might actually be less usable than the Funimation website and app.

I donât know what the CSS designers were thinking when they didnât include a just-as-easy way to replicate the layout functionality provided by the slapdash HTML table method and when they included percentage-of-screen based scaling for everything of import except fonts, which really sucks as screen resolutions have increased while sites have not adapted. If a site is designed for a âtarget resolutionâ, as so many are, then IMO theyâre doing it wrong and it really isnât their fault.
BTW, on TANâs forums have you noticed that you can drag the reply text box to a larger size but if you drag it horizontally it âgoes invisibleâ as the âcolumnâ containing the forum content does not expand? A 4:3 site in a 16:9 world.
She also states somewhere that AP isnât supposed to be a facebook-clone like MAL, but I never saw MAL, and with adding a FB login and connection and all the blue and messy design, I am not the only one that has mentioned it looks like a facebook-clone AFTER it released.
everyone wants to be FB now, like everyone wanted to be MySpace then, and where is MS now?
Design your own site, be a leader, not a follower and both TAN and AP have just become lemmings following the heard.
Facebook made ad-ridden, difficult-to-navigate webpages familiar and âprofessional lookingâ. Thatâs my theory as to why that âparadigmâ of site design is so widely adopted now and why I, as someone who doesnât use Facebook, believe that those âFB cloneâ sites are a pain to use and are unprofessional looking.
Iâm not so sure that TAN is following the herd though as it looks nothing like Facebook, CR/AP or (thankfully) Funimation.
BTW, how underused is AP? Iâve used it off-and-on for years and I am seeing recommendations for fairly old shows still having <20 votes. All this time and not even 20 people voted on a recommendation? This site appears to have a lower voter turnout than a real-life primary election
I would wager to guess, most people donât even use all that community nonsense, and reviews and vots. The majority probably just use the list of anime, and more recently manga to tack what shows that have watched so they know what episode to watch next if they take a beak for a while.
That is all I use it for, and there is only a total of 19 ten-post pages in the V4 thread and about a dozen people total that have posted in it, meaning that less people use the forums that are probably active on TAN forums in a single day. Most of the anime descriptions there came from ANN and had a disclaimer saying such prior to the new format.
