You’d think they could get a different icon for temps above 100 degrees… maybe a sweating sun.
Anything but that goofy smiling sun.
It’s looking down its nose at you. :silly:
At least it is a dry heat. That’s something, right?

Shutting down those other sources are great. If needed in a time of crisis, they just need to know how to make them work and have people on hand to work them like National Guard or something.
I am not seeing anything that relates burning your family to death with Soul Eater. It is like the idiots that blamed Naruto for some kidding dying from burying his head in the sand, the reverse of headhunter jutsu where you buried all BUT your head in the sand or the idiocy of Nancy Grace where they blamed D&D when a couple got a monetary windfall and neglected they infant because they were busy buying new junk and playing WoW.
Just more Ameritrash Hillbilly 'Murica trying to find the new commies and attacking things they don’t understand.
Why do we never see Superman blamed for excessive use of force? Rambo blamed for school shootings or postal shootings? Why can these morons not figure out a comic book is jsut a comic book, and they all use supernatural powers from wizards and mages in the East to Superman and X-Men in the West?
Who is to blame? Not the comics, but the parents for not raising their own damn kids and expecting everyone else to!
If they were blaming the Soul Eater dub then I could be a tid bit more understanding as the decisions made with that are so mind-boggling, and the end result so bad, that they could cause insanity
With that bit of facetiousness out of the way, I agree that it isn’t the media that drives crazy people to do crazy things but rather their craziness.

I don’t believe that’s the case here as the Sheriff in that article sounds more like a commie than a 'Murican with his “Freedom of Speech, except for this speech” claptrap. On that (claptrap), this Sheriff says “you know” as though he were an athlete giving a post-game interview; Oration is a lost art.
Using Clonezilla to copy my old HD to a new one as the old one was dying, and I lost a bit of time because the default settings just aborts everything when it hits a bad sector.
Loving how easy this new case allows me to switch HDs however

Got too much on the drive to switch to SSD (without being in serious debt)
The reason for the wasted time, SSD wouldn’t matter.

Get to work this morning, and they packed up my office telling me I was moving. A little more warning WOULD be nice! Wasted half a day just sitting around waiting for the movers to move my furniture. Now I need to sort out my papers…
512 mb and 1 tb ssds are regularly cheaper than some Aniplex releases. One of my anime bros forwent a 1 TB ssd for SAO bd and was the first to admit his error lol.
Ssds don’t get bad sectors in the traditional sense; regular use of HDD = dead sectors, reg use of ssd = read only sectors. So no slowdown of ever a bad spot should arise.
After using a ssd, when I use a normal HDD PC it is unbearably slow. There’s an old quip about the computer spends most of its time waiting for user input. How it predates the ssd is a mystery
I really can’t stand how bleeping slow my older system is to boot up. When it takes more than five minutes to get up to speed with hardly any start-up programs… there is something wrong. But really, it’s about out to pasture anyway.

The wife’s PC has a 250GB SSD and a 2TB HDD, so the boot and program files all reside on the SSD which makes starting her PC / Applications nice 'n fast. All her data files + misc stuff lives on the HDD which is still as fast at spinning iron ever was, so you don’t get all that much delay from that.
What kind of a office moves you without at least some warning? I’ve been given a short warning of office moves, only a couple of days, but never have I come in and found my stuff moved when I hadn’t been told that it was going to happen beforehand.
I had to move move my Libraries over to a ssd as so many programs I use save critical info needed for their startup in there and that was gimping their boot speed. I guess saving data into the libraries is more convenient than into the program directory (issues with multiple accounts on one PC) or, especially, the Windows Registry.
On energy costs, has anyone found a good LED bulb? The only ones that I can find are either spotlight like or only illuminate from the sides. Those would be perfect for table laps and recessed ceiling lighting but my lighting needs are met by overhead lighting, mostly ceiling fans, and I reed a combination of those for best illumination.
I dislike incandescent bulbs as they’re hot and electrically inefficient but I might just have to use those: the few incandescent bulb makers that were grandfathered into the bulb ban are still cheaper than these LED lights and they are “omniluminate”.

We’ve yet to buy an LED bulb, still using CF’s with good results. In the 7 years that we used them in our old house we had only three failures out of about 30 CF bulbs.
Now this new house was equipped with all new incandescent bulbs by the FHA’s refurbishing contractors ( ! ) so we are slowing replacing them with CF’s, except for the bathrooms which have decorative fixtures that really need something like an LED bulb. So we are looking for a good brand too.
The CFLs that I’ve tried haven’t really worked out for me. The power company advocates CFLs that hide the “curlicue” inside a frosted dome, so it kinda looks like an incandescent bulb but I’m not really wanting to go down that path.
I still don’t believe that the lighting market was ready to pick up the slack left by the incandescent ban.
Even though they aren’t adequate, only using 36 watts to illuminate a room instead of 240, only 24 of which I hear were actually output as light and not heat, is enough to make me really reluctant to ever go with a less efficient solution. I did load up on incandescents if it should come to that though
Never had any problem with the CFLs either. For some of your needs, they’re just fine. But, I do understand what you are saying about the tech level and what is better. It did take awhile for the LED bulbs to actually compete in terms of brightness. That was one of the reasons I shied away from them at the time. I did happen to get a good deal on a truckload of CFLs at Costco.

In other randomness… I hate allergies! There are those times that your eyes just won’t stop itching because of something that sets it off. I actually caught myself saying this earlier while having a fit rubbing my eye…
“Ahhh, that feels so good. It’s like sex with my eyeball! Wait… what the hell did I just say!?”
:blink::laugh:
The problem with this kiddy level design of CFs and LED is that they have always been wrong about the main focus. I recently saw a LED type bulb or CF that had on its packaging “Lumens is the new watts!”
No, lumens is the old lumens. It is why you bought 100 watt bulbs for to get the 1700 lumens, just that bulbs were make at a wattage rating because different heat outputs that could be withstood from the fixtures, and supposedly you could calculate the amount of energy they would be using. I always looked for lumens, and anything less than 1600 didn’t cut it for me. so a 100 watt bulb that is 1450 lumens is a BIG waste of energy when I can pay a little more for a 100 watt bulb that gave me the 1700.
That is what you need to look for in a bulb, as well a its directionality. the problem with LEDs will be the tiny ones used in bulbs to prevent them from building up heat take so many to get the light they can’t jsut put them to face in all directions.
CFs that are 36 watts that supposed to be 100 watts worth only give off around 1400 lumens which isnt enough light either.
Luckily I have 100 watts bulbs that give off 1650 lumen right now and use them in my overhead fixture and when they run out I guess I will just be using flashlight or sit in the dark to do everything because these other bulbs just dont give enough light for me to see to do things by.
what kind of overhead fixture do you have and could changing it help? Single outlet that points down, or angled outlet like those found in fans, upright outlets like a chandelier, or spoke style that come out straight forma central base that holds several lights?
Also the LEDs used are made to be either side or end, most don’t allow light really to come from all directions, so you might have to build your own bulb until someone figures out that the reason light is being used indoors and bulbs exist is to get light EVERYWHERE, not to just say you have a light source. :pinch:
Most of my light fixtures are ceiling fans that have the light “pods” pointing downward at an ~45 degree angle. I have some overhead lights where the bulb hangs directly down from the ceiling, but yet the lights are not recessed, making them not really suitable for spotlight or “sidelight” LED bulbs.
I have some of these Cree LED bulbs that are “sidelight” bulbs and since the LEDs are only in a ring around the sides, there’s a dark spot on the top of the bulb. Would hit really have been too much for them to have put some top-pointing LEDs into the center of their bulbs.
The bulbs that I have are labeled as “60W replacement bulbs”. They use <10 W and produce 800-990 lumens. Interestingly enough, I see that they make 100W replacement bulbs that use double the wattage and put out double the light-1600+ lumens. I would have had these if they had been on the shelf at Home Depot when I picked up the ones that I had but, last I checked, these brighter LEDs are online only
I’m still seeing that LEDs and CFLs are being marketed with their energy savings vs incandescent bulbs. That seems a bit bogus/pointless as an incandescent solution is getting harder to do with the manufacturing/importation ban.
Another case of someone not being able to do simple math. If I filled all 3 sockets in my ceiling fixture with a 800 lumens bulb it wouldn’t give off as much light as my single 100 watt bulb does, and it would take more watts to do it since each bulb takes 36 watts for a total of 108 watts more efficiently giving me off less light.
Edison and Tesla are both rolling over in their graves at the foolishness of new lighting methods that do a poorer job than the ones they created and initially began with.
Changing the subject for a moment… due to the forum maintenance happening tomorrow, does anyone know if we can at least sign in and do other things? I did happen to want to watch a few things and whatnot. Just curious?
