Brain Drain

Probably not. If the database is getting maintenance then it wont be available to access to let anyone sign in. Hulu shoudl still be up and half the shows are still on CR as well, and CR has a better player than the Hulu player, but neither offer dub version.

I don’t know, but when I read the announcement my impression was that streaming would still be an option. I guess I’ll find out definitively in a few hours lol.

…36w for a lightbulb seems too high to me, despite it being significantly lower than the once-standard 60W bulbs. That’s part of the problem that I have with CFLs, that to have instant-on, universal dimmer support and reduced flicker they have to suck down more power. The cheapy ones that I used to run racked up enough heat to scorch and warp the plastic base a bit. Even these low-wattage LED bulbs that I have sport heatsinks that get uncomfortably warm to the touch, the kind of warmth that you could get a rather minor burn from, after a few hours of use.

They’re more efficient than incandescent, sure, but there’s still a lot of efficiency to be gained.

So, the forums here are about as good as Funimation’s site in terms of speed. I read it was mobile friendly on the twitter feed (ONLY SAW IT AFTER THE FORUMS WENT DOWN, btw)

The site The Daily WTF, when they switched to this software, 99% of the comments were TRWTF is this software.

I’m tempted to not come on the forums anymore…

This isn’t all that bad a deal. On my PC it is not any slower than the old board was.

It is different and will take some getting used to, but it’s not anything that requires a drastic response.

Let’s give it time and allow the Wizards in AN’s IT department ( You know, the ones with magic wands & staffs. ) time to ferret out all the bugs.

@Miquel - You know the AN forums wouldn’t be the same without you! Give it some time to get used to the new digs, and give us your feedback and we will definitely look into it! Your opinions are greatly appreciated :sunny:

I always been the type to hate JS heavy sites. I might install NoScript and see how badly broken this forum software is.

I’m using no script. IMO it’s not bad. Granted I haven’t seen ads in months sooo… lol… I’ll check the difference.

I fear that the new forums may have sent shadzar running to the hills

So far, the mobile site is vastly superior to Funimation’s forum site as it doesn’t have any constantly running JavaScript that lags Firefox and causes my devices to become excessively hot, though this “save as you type” feature is a bit off putting and may be part of what is causing this new forum to be slower than the old on mobile.

BTW, how do I preview a post on mobile?

@celestial_being, let me check this out for you.

Need to find a better spot for everyone to post these questions. Brain Drain is definitely not the place.

Please post your questions about the slowing forum and mobile problems in the Welcome to the New Forums! thread.
Admin will address them there for now.

I like it personally . Though I am using a IPad . Course having so many issues with the new iOS I doubt I would care unless I could not get on .

Discourse is much more advanced than anything I’VE ever experienced. You don’t even need to put in [IMG}[/IMG] for images anymore. Paste the link and it’ll upload it instantly.

Auto parsing of raw image URLs is kinda nice, but I liked the greater control afforded by the tags. The way it works now reminds me of Disqus (which, mercifully, TAN did not adopt…I remember when ANN floated the idea of replacing phpBB with that and the fandom torpedoed it posthaste), a setup for leaving per-article comments on sites. It is interesting to actually be able to see YT videos in-thread again though IMO.

The new forum setup still fits in a 4:3 box on the screen, a bit weird in today’s 16:9 world. Maybe TAN could put some sort of skins in the massive white space along the side?

@celestial_being
Again, something to post in the Welcome to the New Forums! thread.
Why you keep posting these things here is beyond me.

Note to self: Never use 3M hanging strips again. The walls look like they’ve been through hell.

Funny, you only need one character to make a post…

So, every once in a while (I would say, it averages out to about 1-2 times a year), I would see a prototype car with the camo paint job, but the one I saw today, sorry Ford, you did a bad job hiding the fact you’re testing a new F-150. You’re logo is too easy to spot, even with black tape over it, and when the F-150 logo had the special job over it when it’s not flushed…

The mobile forum is giving me crazy dates for last posts in a thread. For example, this thread hasn’t been posted to since 2/12.

…maybe Ford wanted us to know they’re testing the f150. I wish I had one of those ecoboost engines. Of course, I wish Ford hadn’t gone all one size fits all with its trucks as the f150 is prohibitively large.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Slowhand needs a bigger whip?

So I just saw Robert Plant on The Tonight Show.

Why wasn’t this guy cast as Radagast the Brown in LotR? He’s basically the real life version of him.
