The movie doesnât really do justice to the story, it tries to fit like 24 episodes of tv series into 90 minutes. I think people who havenât seen the TV series will be more lost at certain places.
No, what the film is actually doing is adapting the visual novel into a 95 min. movie, a movie done by a different animation studio than the series, and that actually came out before the tv series.
Like any adapted works, compromises are made to fit to the medium at hand. Itâs no different here in the states as well, example: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, X-Men, etc.
In the case of Clannad, they took what they thought was the core of the game and made it the central plot, the heart of the movie; which it is as well in the series, even with all the other characters and their stories.
As an adapted work, I say it accomplishes what it wanted to do: tell a simple âboy meets girlâ tale. Thatâs all you can ask for in a 95 min. movie.
clannad and calnnad after story. LOVEDâEM!!! i couldnt stop watchin it n eventualy watchd all 49 episodes n ovas in bout a day.
clannad movie. unsatisfied  i cannt find the words to discribe how i feel bout it. i was all excited wen i saw it, rented it, raced home (almost got a ticket), n watched it. bout 5 mins into it i was already diappointed. you cant jus take a 49 ep series n stuff it into 95 mins with different S#!* in it n expect it to be as good as the originals
The movie was made before the series, so they didnât stuff 49 episodes into it. Itâs just a different take on the visual novel where they chose to focus on the primary relationship in the series. You canât honestly expect a 90 minute movie to be exactly like an almost 50 episode series.
Personally, while it wasnât great, I didnât think it was bad. It got the important parts of the relationship in and considering the time constraints, thatâs about all you can ask for.
I tried to like it. I honestly did. I tried to let go of my prejudices and let the movie stand on its own. Really, I did. I wanted to be fair with the movie. HoweverâŚ
Hearing those voices coming out of the mouths of another set of âclose but no cigarâ characters was like, âYou sound like my friend but you donât look like my friends⌠what did you do with my friends?â
There was so much⌠well, not necessarily âwrongâ but more like âoffâ⌠with the movie that I just donât know where to begin. Tomoya was too⌠nice. Sunohara was too⌠scary. Nagisa was too⌠âperkyâ. Everyone else was too⌠minimized.
Then there was the visual style-or, rather, lack of style. Split screens? Black and white scenes? Special effects? What is this-CSI Hikarisaka High School? The visual style was a train wreck.
I own the Clannad Complete Collection. I have the Clannad After Story Complete Collection on pre-order. I will not touch Clannad-The Movie at all.
Guess Iâm the odd one out, I liked the Clannad movie. I watched it with my mom and she liked it better then the first season (waiting on the dub for 2nd season).
I find it funny that, with the dubbed Complete Collection scheduled for release on April 19th, we have not seen the dub of Clannad After Story on VOD or the Online Player. TAN did it for Clannad, Tears to Tiara, Blue Drop, Cannan, Golgo 13 and Xamâd and is doing it for High School of the Dead and Needless right now. Why isnât Clannad After story getting the same treatment?
L&O doesnât do B&W either. Youâre thinking of NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles and their eyecatch/bumper shots. I was thinking more of CSI for the split/multiple screens.
Whatâs this that I just seen: Clannad After Story is on TANâs PSN channel?
Do my eyes deceive me, all 26 eps are up and running for everyoneâs enjoyment?
YesâŚwhy yes, they are.
I liked the movie as well. Considering it was made before the series, it did what it set out to do. It told a story that made me laugh and made me cry. It wasnât done as well as the series with regards to the style and the music, but for a short movie, it served itâs purpose. I was happy enough with it.
