This week’s free VOD episode was full of funny moments. Especially the way the detective used that old Muhammed Ali line to distract the nurse to pull a Miroku and grab her butt… and gets slapped for it! Some nurse… but then later he does it again and she blushes and smiles at him… lol… there were some other funny bits too.
I finally got a chance to watch episodes 7, 8 & 9 yesterday. I’m glad I did-this series is getting better and better with each episode, IMHO. I went looking at some other web sites and saw a lot of complaining about the style of the artwork. I think it’s perfect-this is a anime film noir, after all. I also am one of the few who prefer the US jazz instrumental OP over the Japanese J-rock one (although I know cody agrees with me.) Jazz and film noir just go together so well.
I started wondering something, though. Although they may not have been separated at birth, I’m beginning to think Hayato is the Japanese cousin of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. See?
Hayato
Shaggy
Ha! They do look alike. I’ve been watching this on the OP, got one episode left. It’s great.
So, finally finished it. The ending kind of threw me for a loop though… but a great show!
Yeah the ending does that, but I still really liked it. I hope this is one they might consider a dub o bluray release fo late. I would easily double dip!
But that’s what makes Shotaro Ishinomori anime so great. They don’t end in such clear cut happily ever after endings, they have a bittersweet quiet reflection to them.
And if they do a dubbed rerelease, I say use the same cast as 009-1, another Ishinomori anime as well.
Ohhh, and they can rescue Cyborg 009 from Sony hell. Oh, such sweet dreams.
GO GIRUGAMESH!!!
just finished this show up tonight…
it was alright… i’d say that the plot moved along slowly up to the last 4 episodes… thats when it got good!!!
i was not expecting hiyato to put on the skull mask… that was a shock to me…
yoka
So this is going for ridiculously cheap at Right Stuf in their Weekly Specials. It seems almost like and OOP pricing, but this should be far too new to be heading out of print. Perhaps a re-release is pending or it’s simply a misprice. Regardless, it’s $5.99, so grab it while you can!
It’s not the first time it’s been priced like that in the weekly specials.
Perchance this means a new release is due soon, with… a brand new spankin’ dub?!
Mmm…I like’a spankins…
mmmmm…
One can always dream Tonka. One can always dream.
Of course, if it’s been priced like this several times, then it could just be a sign that the show was a huge flop. Of course, they never priced Glass Mask that low, which we all know bombed, that cheaply, so who knows?
After seeing the first 2 eps of this, does anyone else find it really similar to CAANAN?
It’d probably be the other way around since the original Manga was from 1970 and the Anime is from 2007.
Since I saw CANAAN first, for me it is this way. IMO it doesn’t matter the order in which the 2 shows are listed for a comparison. If I had said that one of the shows “ripped off” the other, then I’d totally agree that order matters.
I have to admit that I didn’t know that this series was based on something from the 1970s. That actually worries me as I do not know the 1970s to be a great time for manga/anime which interest me. *Gilgamesh *seems to be the exception, not the rule.

The Skull Man - DVD Complete Collection $5.99[/quote]
I’m buying this now.
So has there been any indication that this will get a dubbed rerelease? I’m watching it now, slowly, but I realize that if I watch the whole thing subbed, the odds of watching it dubbed are almost zero. The only Sentai series that I have so watched is Rune Soldier.
I’d still buy the show dubbed if I’ve seen the sub, I’ve done that several times already, but if there’s a real chance that this is getting a dub then I’d rather wait for it to continue watching.
Fact its $5.99 at Rightstuf leads me to believe it did not sell well so probably about a 000000000000000000.0 chance of a dub.
Brutal.
I think I’ll just stream it all here and, assuming I still like it by the end, add it to my list of shows which were good but did not get a dub (either in actuality or because the dub was so bad that I pretend it doesn’t exist;I’m looking at you, bangzoom).
If it turns out to be better than Canaan, as I suspect it will be, then that will just suck. I don’t think I’ll ever understand the appeal of the unrealistic “girls with guns” shows (though Canaan was at least better animated than was noir).
Dubbing only a few shows, and dubbing them well, still beats the “dub everything” approach, even when shows I want dubbed loose out.
