E3 News & Notes

Games is what I’d want to see most. New stuff and more info from upcoming games. GTA V info would be nice, but Rockstar is said to not be present at this E3 sadly. They kinda march to their own beat anyways when it comes to releasing information about games.
I’m somewhat excited about new consoles, but I’d actually rather see the current gen survive a while longer. It’s still going pretty strong and I’m getting a ton of use out of my 360 and PS3.

What I expect and look forward to:

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
The Last of Us
More Wii U information

What I don’t expect but would love to see:

New 3DS model

Full Pipedream Mode:

TimeSplitters 4
Left 4 Dead 3 (available on PS3 with PC cross-platform play)

No mention of the Kinect/Move

I’ll be doing my part as usual by taking extensive notes from all the press conferences and the show floor and post them here.

Is this just a cheap copy of Super Smash Bros? Do you know if you fight the other 3 players as well as the larger enemies in the background?

From what I’ve seen of it so far, i’ts just a copy of Super Smash Brothers.

This would be nice, but Left 4 Dead is made by Valve, and if you haven’t ever noticed, Valve doesn’t know how to count to three.
Left 4 Dead 2
Half Life 2
Half Life 2 episode 2
Portal 2
Team Fortress 2
And DotA2 is coming out [strike]soon[/strike] eventually

Valve never goes any higher.
I would love to be proven wrong on this point, but so far it’s never happened.

Yeah, hence full pipedream mode. :stuck_out_tongue: I should also include HL Episode 3 in there as well.

I’m kind of curious about that… Will they actually make a Half Life 2: episode 3, or will they just go right to Half Life 3. I mean, the whole point was to have episodes every few months…

But that didn’t happen.

I’m really hoping for more news on some good Vita games. I’m really excited for Gravity Rush coming out next month, but I’d like more than one game to look forward to for it. D:

Nintendo is having a Pre-E3 presentation about the “concept behind” the Wii U today at 3 PM PDT/6 PM EDT. It’ll be streamed http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo_direct in ~41 minutes.

Besides hearing more details on the Wii U (release date, software line-up), the only other thing I’m looking forward to at E3 is a release date for the Ratchet and Clank HD collection.

Was not overly impressed by Nintendo press conference. Or Sony or Microsoft overall. Another bland E3. =(

No new hardware announcements, despite months of speculation and “leaks,” PS Vita pretty much being tossed away with little to no news or games announced for it, no new info on many upcoming games that people have been waiting for, not many new games announced.

Heck, aside from Ubisoft we didn’t even get any surprises this year really. Aside from a couple games from each press conference that looked amazing I walk away feeling underwhelmed.
I am also quite disappointed in the lack of anything for Vita. I am excited for AC III game coming to it but that’s pretty much all they had. I am not particularly fussed about Blops 2 game coming to it, as I’ve noted in the past I am not a CoD fan.

Unless I am forgetting anything, my list of titles that I am excited for from this E3 consists of:

 • Watch Dogs
 • The Last of Us
 • Beyond
 • Assassins Creed III
 • Assassins Creed III: Liberation
 • Dishonored
 • Lords of Shadow 2
 • ZombiU
 • Lego City Stories (rather surprised me, looks pretty good)

Trailer/demo highlights

Ok I’m not really understanding why Nintendo made a gigantic deal about watching their 3DS showcase stream because they showed nothing new, just a rehash of what was brought up on stage.

Also I want to point out the mob is colorfully cheerful.

It’s that time of year again and I figured it’s time to start a new thread for this years E3 announcements. Konami will kick things off Thursday June 6. Everybody else is June 10-11.

Apparenlty one of the things that Konami will be revealing is the voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid 5. Of course, if this person isn’t David Hayter, as everyone has been led to believe so far (David Hayter said he was never asked to return for MGS5), a lot of people will be very very angry. Personally, I would be pretty mad if Hayter isn’t voicing Snake anymore. Then again, knowing the kind of crap that Kojima tries to pull, it’s pretty likely that Hatyer will be voicing Snake again.

Kojima tried to disguise MGS5 as a game called Phantom Pains made by a company nobody’s heard of called Moby Dick Studios. They released a very interesting trailer and everything, but that ruse lasted all of half a day before people started comparing the Phantom Pains trailer to the previously-released Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes trailer. Aside from the soldiers in both trailers wearing the same uniform, and using the same weapons, there were a number of allusions to Metal Gear games. Of course it wasn’t until several months later that Kojima finally ‘revealed’ Phantom Pains to be a Metal Gear game (to the surprise of nobody), and along with Ground Zeroes it makes up the story of Metal Gear Solid 5.

Now, David Hayter himself said that he wasn’t asked to return to the Metal Gear franchise. Kojima was asked why that was, to which he answered that since Metal Gear Solid 5 was in a way redefining the Metal Gear franchise with a new-ish style of gameplay, that he wanted Snake’s voice to be fresh and new as well… of course the internet called him out on that since the Japanese voice remained the same. Then of course, last week David Hayer had this to say on Twitter: “I’m so excited for E3! I just hope I don’t lose my voice.” Only time will tell whether or not he really is returning to the series, but at this point, it’s more likely that he is.

ANYWAY…

On the 10th Sony will finally be showing us what the Playstation 4 looks like, which is apparently a big deal to some people. When they revealed the specs of the system a while back, a bunch of people were disappointed that they didn’t actually show what the console looks like. Although I don’t think it really matters what it looks like… It could be a bunch of computer components stuffed inside a plastic shopping bag, and people would still buy it.

Also on the 10th, Microsoft will be showing off their alleged 15 exclusive titles for the Xbox One, 8 of which are supposed to be entirely new IPs. RARE is apparently working on a game for the Xbox One, which nobody actually knows the identity of yet. A lot of people are hoping for a new Banjo Kazooie game, some people think it may be a new Perfect Dark game. But it’ll probably be the next Viva Pinata… How about a new Conker game? That would be neat.

Nintendo is, of course, skipping their big press conference this year, but will still obviously be at E3 holding smaller conferences.

At any rate, I’m seriously hoping this E3 will be less disappointing than the last few… Maybe the new consoles will make things more interesting.

EDIT: 6/6/2013 - So Konami has announced that Kiefer Sutherland will be voicing Snake… Fans of the series are not happy, and David Hayter is trending on twitter again. This change will most likely have an effect on sales. Even if it doesn’t, to fans of the series, Kiefer Sutherland will never live up to the 15 year legacy that David Hayter left behind… Although I suppose this means I have one less game to buy.
