That would suck. Thankfully the dub for that one was pretty solid (at least, that’s how I remember it) and there’s no need to create a new dub; video on the KS page states that Funimation is working closely with original creators and Sunrise to make the dub.

What might this mean for other effectively-undubbed-by-Bandai rescue releases Tales of the Abyss or the undubbed sequel & prequel to Mai Otome? If Maiden Japan had done something like this for the Patlabor OVAs then I would have gotten in on it.

I just saw Ep 1 of this show. I like the detailed art and nostalgic colors, not so hot on the shojo-ness of it. I'm not seeing myself paying the Funi Fee for this.

Side note, everyone seemed so nonchalant about that perpetual motion pendulum.

The Vision of Escaflowne - Kickstarter: A New HD Dub for the Classic Anime

Kickstarter only has about 7k to go, should probably reach it’s goal by Tomorrow…

Now the most important part is for Funimation to deliver, with the problems they’ve had recently (Tokyo Ghoul Special Edition Box, Attack on Titan Collectors having Scratched Discs) They need to get all of it out when promised and correctly. It will kill any and all other Kickstarters they do if they fail to deliver.

That’s something that I’d forgotten about, Funimation has myriad examples of really bad QC on their boxes, Psycho-pass LE and We Without Wings LE come to mind too.

Maybe Funi should start moving its production back from Mexico now, though it could just be coincidental.

Watching this show subbed, I can see how a new dub would be an asset as between the really weird character design and the voicing, I’m having trouble telling which characters are male and which are female.

As weird as it might be to phrase it like this, I haven’t encountered a more gender-ambiguous villain since I watched the sub of Last Exile. :slightly_smiling:

Sonny Strait directs dub; 1st stretch goal reached

I’ve gotten so used to “Ban-sama” that I’m not sure I can adapt.

Dismuke is alright. He doesn’t have a history of playing roles as fiery or as passionate as Van tends to be though, could be another Grimgar dub in the making.

I’m not sure why Sonny Strait is directing. Seems to me that this is a case for the “big guns”, not the “broadcast dub guy”. Bahamut dub is out now, seems to me that’ll be a good indicator of how he’ll do on another “real” dub.

Dismuke as Van? Yeah, just can’t see it. Maybe he’ll surprise everyone, but with who’s ADRing…yeah, no.

Strait as ADR? Even less hope for this. Since it’s a brand, new spanking dub, I’ll get this to see how different it’ll be compared to the original, but it won’t be a priority buy; maybe wait for a complete collection down the line.

Oh Matt Greenfield, where are you when the anime fandom needs you! :confounded:

They should have given this one to Caitlin Glass, as she’s their best ADR director they have access too. Joel McDonald would have been good as well, but it seems his main job is keeping him busy, and doesn’t have the time to do it.

Glass, Clink, Sabat, Bevins. Those were the names that I was expecting to see. Joel McDonald is pretty cool too, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him and I respect that he called in help when he was in too deep on We Without Wings.

Maybe Strait will be better with the Japanese micromanaging his dubbing? [quote=“tonka, post:34, topic:9095”]

He’s at least close to the character, something that Funimation chose to do the opposite of with Strait’s dub of Bahamut. No idea how that happened, it’s like someone accidentally scrambled the cast list before recording.

the tarot set includes 26 cards that were shown in the Escaflowne series proper and will be 70mmx120mm. Hope that helps clarify!
