FUNimation Entertainment Announces New Options and Enhancements for Subscription Streaming Service

Jan 14th 2015
New SubPass Now Available!

Flower Mound, TX (January 13, 2015) – FUNimation Entertainment is committed to providing the best services, products, and experiences for our fans, which starts with ongoing updates and enhancements to our subscription streaming service. To that end, we have several exciting announcements for all of our fans:

For fans of subtitled anime, FUNimation has just launched the subscription ‘SubPass’, which gives fans unlimited access to subtitled anime. Episodes can be streamed in HD, commercial-free, right after Japanese broadcast, and across multiple devices!

“We are thrilled to be able to offer a service just for subtitle fans. We know that fans have different ways of consuming anime, and this service offers an affordable way for subtitle fans to watch all of their favorite shows” said Gen Fukunaga, President and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment.

We at FUNimation feel the same way fans do about anime and the amazing people in Japan who work so hard to make the shows that we all love – the production staff, animators, and voice actors, to name a few. The SubPass is a great way to show your support for the Japanese anime industry and its creators. The more you watch, the more we can pay the licensors in Japan, and in turn, the more content we can bring to you.

The FUNimation SubPass is available for the low price of $4.95/month. Or try it for 3 months at $12.95. For the best value, sign up for the yearly subscription at $39.95 – a 33% savings! That’s $3.33/month or 11 cents/day!

For a limited introductory period, SubPass subscribers will also be able to access both subbed and dubbed content on and across each of the FUNimation apps. For more information on the FUNimation apps, please visit

For fans of both English dubs and subtitles, we will continue to offer our original subscription service (EVS), now called the All-AccessPass. This provides unlimited access to both subbed and dubbed episodes, including the new FUNimation Broadcast Dubs, English-dubbed episodes of select shows that are currently broadcasting in Japan. The All-AccessPass will still be offered at $7.95/month and $59.95/12-month. We are also pleased to offer a new $18.95/3-month option.

For all subscribers, we’ve recently made many updates to our service, which have significantly enhanced the user experience. We have a new queue and improved video player and navigation. In addition, we have updated several of our device apps, with more updates to come. We have also recently launched new apps such as the PS3 app, with the PS4 and Xbox One apps are coming soon. Please check back often as we continue to make updates!

Finally, new content is being added every day during our winter simulcast season! If you are not yet a subscriber, now is the perfect time to join so that you don’t miss out on a single show or movie.

Funimation App Launches on PlayStation 4

Funimation announced on Tuesday that its streaming service app is now available for PlayStation 4 consoles. The company launched its PlayStation 3 streaming app in December.

The app works with a Funimation Streaming Service account. The PlayStation 3 app was also upgraded to match the PS4 app with improved searching, episode queues, and account syncing so the app remembers where viewers left off on a series.

FUNimation has launched a new experience on the web with streamlined navigation that allows you to find what you’re looking for with fewer clicks.

Why can’t Funimation just have a site that is efficient and intuitive? IMO they’re too focused on “cool” widgets than a site that just works.

I don’t know why they waste so much space looping a low-res video in the BG of the website. It’s kinda cool, but what does it do, and how long does it even take for that video to load for most people?

I can see that having a link on the main page for Simulcasts being a good idea, but the page that it links to is still a mess. Clicking around a bit, everything except for the main page seems the same.

They actually still do that?
I never turn off my Active X filtering, so I didn’t know that aspect of the site was still around.

Yep. It’s a mix of convention footage (chalk drawings, cosplayers, Funi panels), anime scenes and misc Funi-produced live-action stuff.

It looks like there are different videos that load randomly when the page is viewed. There’s BGM that plays on the main page now too, but luckily it comes muted by default. It seems to be the same no matter which video plays though.

Fairy Tail for Cat Sidekicks and not Dragonball? o_0

Another one for the 'Things I just don’t get." list.

Mark Gosdin

Well, I don’t get it either: how can any other cat sidekick trump a cat sidekick that has the power to transform into any form desired? It’s like Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or both Wonder Twins combined into a single entity.

Noragami is a maybe later pick up. Loved the OP to it though.

Just 009 RE: CYBORG

everything else…

Noragami was very generic but it put the pieces that countless other shows have used to better use than most, so I enjoyed it. I don’t forsee myself buying it though. I wish they were bundling the coin with the non-Funi store version, as they did with the Steins;Gate pin in the pre-Funi Store days.

Another sub-only release from Funi? :frowning: I wish they’d toss back any show that they’re not going to dub. IIRC, didn’t Funi go out of its way to promote that show when it was airing?

E: more importantly, another month without any of their high-profile rescue releases being announced.
